Not really, he's Russell Crowe, he does what he wants. He's got enough hits and critically acclaimed performances to pick and choose as he sees fit.

his last movies were underperformers. he is also a hollywood actor which means that his lifestyle demans big paychecks.big houses,espensive cars,yacht,..... he can not get a big paycheck with an oscar movie or an indie movie. or a 40 millions Ridley Scott movie that will bomb.

he needs right now a summer blockbuster where the filming will be shorter then 2 months and where he will get a lot money .

of course that doesnt mean that he is embarassed . but he is not doing this movie because he was reading superman comics when he was young t:

I see what your saying but when is the last time he had a major hit, in hollywood it seems your are only good as your last film.

Plus with the bad publicity he got for his behaviour these thing do affect your ability to get roles. Look at tom cruise, its taken him 7 years to come back after his antics.

the process of filmaking is complex and very long. no actor before he signs teh contract can knot how the movie will look and feel. the director can describe it you and show you some pictures. but it means nothing. plus the studio and director can use editing to destroy an actors performance. the only way to understand this is if you read scripts before the movie is filmed and realesed. then you can see how complex this is.

Crowe IMO made the decision based on the paycheck ,popularity

I agree, but at the same time it may not even be for the money so much as it is for being in something thats popular that gets you back on the map and back into favour with the right people. We'll never know though, he may just be a big superman fan, lol.

whether or not they hope for sequels, i dont think you should ever make a film expecting one.

i liked bryan singers first x-men movie, and superman returns. but i do believe both those movies were held back by the fact he was expecting to make sequels.

I agree (also on the first X-Men and Superman Returns ). Who wants that kind of pressure? Just focus on the film you're making now, and worry about any sequels later.

But seriously, that's also an issue. Maybe Cavill thinks 1, 2, or 3 films is enough. I can imagine he signed a contract for, i.e., 3 films and when they decide to do 2 sequels, then he has to do them... But depending on how many he wants to do, and how the contract is, he'll do at least one and perhaps more. We don't know what agreement they have, and even if he has a 3 film contact, then it's still the question if they want sequels.
