The biggest thing I found missing in the previous Spider-Man film was Spider-Man's famous trademark "snappy" patter!! Upon his very first encounter with Doc Ock, I recall him flinging a bag of money back at Ock and yelling, "Here's your change"!
After that, Spidey clams up and we never hear a peep out of him durring battle again. No one-liners/ no insults. I've always found this to be such an important and intrigal part of Spider-Man's character. Spider-Man represents Parker's repressed nature coming out in "full swing", if you will. He also uses this "insult" tactics to over enrage his foes to make them get sloppy in their fighting skills and help give him an edge. Furthermore, I've also read stories where he uses his comical nature to help mask his own fears.
Either way, to me it just isn't quite Spidey without it. It's more Batman. And for those who are quick to say that it just would not translate to the "big screen", I say you simply lack vision and imagination. "ANYTHING" can be done. Thus far we have been made to believe a man can fly. So why can't a Spider crack a joke?
