With Avatar coming at the end of the year, it will pave the way for other live action films to be filmed in 3D. Early impressions are that Avatar will blow people minds. My guess is that 50% of films will be filmed in 3D by about 2015. Cameron, Lucas, Dreamworks, and Spielberg are all strong supporters for the new digital 3D format. I have a feeling Transformers 3 will be one of the early live action films to be in 3D.

ugh, I really hope we don't get too much 3D.

I personally haven't seen 3d since like the first few minutes of Superman Returns but apparently it can look pretty good. The top directors are embracing it. 3D, if done right can add a sense of realism to films that todays movies can't. I heard that after watching a film in 3D, the memory can invoke a feeling of reality, like you've witnessed something real. Perhaps this will even become controversial if the films are graphic or violent in nature. Like a gangster film where someone is getting the beatdown and you are only the observer. Will this be too real? Will we become too desensitized? I don't know what to think till people have body parts blown up in their faces in 3D. Might be cool. Might cause mental issues.
