This year is THE year of the sequels. We have Spider-Man 3, Pirates 3, Shrek 3, Fantastic Four 2, Die Hard 4, Harry Potter 5...and I'm sure I'm missing some. So far people have shown disappointment for SM3, Pirates 3 and Shrek 3. They are just not as fresh as they used to be. I don't believe Die Hard 4 will surprise anybody but Harry Potter 5 does look promising...though I don't predict a lot of repeat viewings for that movie. And the guy who directed Taxi is helming FF again so I won't go any further with that.

My point...do you think Transformers will be THE movie this year to beat all of these sequels? I feel it has a very good chance of being the blockbuster movie of the summer. It has all the key ingredients that will make audiences want to see it, spread the word and keep going back to it for repeat viewings. Its fun, exciting, pretty, loud and not too complicated...you know all this without even seeing the movie. As far as competition in the action department...I see only Die Hard 4 maybe coming close. But I believe Bay is a better action director than Len Wiseman.

I have issues with this film because of my lifelong addiction to Transformers but I predict this movie will be the best blockbuster movie in 2007. Thoughts?

i think it will do well, but it will not be the top movie at the box office, guaranteed.

I don't think it will be highest grossing...but I think as far as viewer satisfaction is concerned that it will please more than disappoint. I don't think it will have as severe drops in box office as SM3. I think it will be one to remain steady due to good word of mouth of a fun, summer action flick.

I agree. This movie will be the summer blockbuster in terms of satisfaction. It may not please TF fans but it should please the masses. Massive Robots, Explosions, hot chick, wicked cars=Repeat viewings=cash=happy paramount=Transformers 2

If they play their marketing cards right, they have another Spider-Man 1 on their hands. So far their promotion is BRILLIANT.

great thread. Well i think it fully depends on the movie itself. IF it's great, it'll do serious business. if it's ****, nope. Seems simple, yes but what's really the difference is that millions of internet nerds are ready to tear this movie a new one as soon as it's released.

As a standalone Transformer movie I believe that it will have good legs and will give people who aren't familiar with Transformers a chance to become fans. For previous fans who have a hard time accepting the changes this production made to the film...I'm pretty sure they will still watch it. I have been up and down on this production from the start. Mostly downs...mostly because I feel Bay does not respect the Transformer fan community as a whole, but I feel this movie will be an awesome spectacle. It will not be the G1 heavy movie that I originally wanted. The characters will not be as recognizable as I want them to be (something I still feel is a tremendous mistake). This movie, to me, is Transformers on steriods. It will be non-stop fun and action and I'll take it for what it is.

I remember not too long ago in here that people were calling for the heads of those marketing this movie because they said they weren't doing enough. Now look!

I think the marketing has been right on from the beginning. They're not showing too much (AHEM! Spider-Man 3), they're just giving the public enough to show what they're in for July 4th. Big, loud, lots of compelling action.

Transformers will probably come in 3rd or 4th of all the big movies, but that's enough to get us Transformers 2, which should bring in the huge money.

I'm one of those fans- never watched the cartoon or read the comics, but fell in love with the screenplay and the characters it presented and love Bay's vision of that screenplay thus far.

So, it's probably easiest for me being really new to the Transformers world really- the only character I knew before the script was Optimus Prime. So, this whole G1 thing isn't effecting me at all.

Aamek what impresses me most, I would say is especially the merchandising department- wow that team looks to have seriously worked their ass off and it definitely shows in that list I saw. I think, if I didn't have a job- I'd be broke.

Your right noesbleed, it could well be the hit of the year. The movies we thought would beat it are not as good as what people would have wanted, the new concept could be enough to get people excited.

Well, I don't know if you were here or not but the dry spell we had here for awhile was starting to get almost unbearable. So yeah, we were getting pretty frustrated and a lot of arguments came up. To those who have been here since the beginning we will see if our patience, b****ing, or support of this movie will pay off pretty soon. I'm just hoping that after the initial shock of seeing the movie that I won't sit down in front of my computer and say, "Hey...I didn't really like it that much".

/\ I feel glad knowing the script and this film is my introduction to Transforms. Less weight off me, not being able to compare it to G1- because I don't know G1. So, I'll be your guys "general movie goer" reviewer.

Do you generally like Bay's movies? Bad Boys I and II, Armageddon, The Rock etc? Because if so then I'm sure you'll love this one. I'm sure Steven Spielberg will also have a resounding effect on the film so I don't really see how this one will be a loser. Worse comes to worse at least we'll be able to say that ILM made Transformers and Pirates 3 the best looking movies this year.

Yeah, I really like his movies and especially his style. I watched the Island again yesterday, I think I've seen the Island and Fantastic Four over a hundred times during the course of college this year- it's always on HBO.

Anyways, if anyone remembers the huge chase sequence, put Transformers into there and- WOW!!! Just thinking that I got excited for Transformers.

So, yeah- I'd think it's safe to say I'm a fan of alot of his movies. Watch this scene while thinking about Transformers:

I seriously really like that film because the concept it presents is brilliant, in my opinion.

it'll probably do between $235 million and $315 million domestic.

I agree with you, but I really believe people will flock to see something new. Given that people are responding to the 3 sequels with a universal "Meh, It's okay, WORST of the series". I think IF Transformers has that Wow factor, and is pretty much easy to digest, I think it will be THE movie of the summer.

It's got the popularity, it's got the built in fanbase, it's got the visuals, and it got big name people making it who have delivered in the past. Despite what vocal fans say, I think their opinions will go the way of Organic web shooters. No one outside of sites like this will care. It will make bank.

..adding to that, sure i love seeing new footage, but i hope they don't show us anymore. We've seen enough. I saw half of SM3 before it even came in the movie theater.:whatever: The best fight sequence in the movie (The aerial Goblin/Peter fight) was idiotically shown 90% complete on NBC during Heroes. which took away the wow! factor when i saw it within the context of the movie.

My point? There's is a thing called over-marketing something. Bay was right by re-using previously seen footage for the new trailer. As much as i love seeing new stuff, deep down inside, i don't want it ruined until i see it on the big screen.

If they keep this in mind, yeah we'll have ppl going for multiple viewings. I can see the majority of SM3 online, so i don't need to go back.

I was here for it, but not posting a whole lot. And honestly, it's almost a no-win situation with the hardcore fans. They're either getting their expectations up too high, or they already hate it before seeing the movie. Myself, I'm trying to temper my excitement so as not to be disappointed when it's not a life-changing event.

My brother grew up on G1 and he's liking this film so far and I grew up on Beast Wars so all in all I to am liking where this film is going. Now if only they'd release the full cast list!

as big as transformers may be.. i still think it should be considered the underdog.

and i hope to god its good and profitable... just to show sm3 that a good movie CAN make more money than it!

It will get at least 225 mil domestic. Thats low end 4th of July weekend alien sci-fi movies usually do good. Big explosions and action should get this movie at least War of the Worlds numbers.

The last movie that made me jump out of my seat with a gaping mouth because of it's special effects was when the T-Rex made it's first appearance in Jurassic Park 1. To this day, nothing in my mind has come close to how amazing that looked. After watching the preview I believe there will be many, many people experiencing those same feelings when they see the first robot transformation on the big screen.

Spiderman 1 killed the competiton back in '02, and while it didn't have huge movies up against it before and after it's release, I honestly think Transformers will do very, very well. Spidey 1 did $400mil domestic, so my guess for Transformers will be $325 mil...

Um, dude I was talking about SPIDER-MAN 1 NOT SPIDER-MAN 3:cwink:

I don't see it as the underdog...just something new. Sequels are practically guaranteed some sort of audience but 3 of the 4 major sequels this year (i'm not counting FF2 or Die Hard 4 so bleh) are considered, as someone else said, meh compared to their predecessors. This movie has a built in audience, some of whom are very pissed but I believe are going to come around and see it on opening day anyway. This will be Bay's masterpiece. It has so much riding on it and he has Steven Spielberg to live up to...so he HAS to deliver.

I don't see this film making over 175 million. 200 will be a major struggle IMO and not very probable. Too much competition. Harry Potter a week later.
