I think this film will do well during the first week. Die hard 4 won't hurt it's domestic gross. However, I am really concerned about how much money Harry Potter will take away from it. In fact I am shocked that WB decided to release Harry Potter 5 nine days after transformers release. I thought it would be better financially for them to release it 2 weeks after Transformers.

Why do you feel the need to post this crap everywhere? This is pointless!

That is odd for a Harry Potter movie to come out as a summer flick. It was under my impression that all the HP movies thus far have gone for Christmas release. I go to a lot of movies - so I'll see everything. haha.

except Rocky...

YA well i think Transfomers will definitely be affected heavily. WB knows it!!!!

I am pretty sure the Transformers won't do more than $185-200 million domestic boxoffice thanks largely due to WB's Harry potter 5 which will eat into transformers boxoffice potential.

Of course transformers will be affected but, it will still do well.

What's a matter with making 200 million when your buget is around 150 million? That is of course if Transformers does not make over 200 million which I think it will make. Ultimately Harry Potter's domestic gross will be affected by Transformers. WB should change the release date of their film.

Spider-Man 3 and Harry Potter are going to OWN the summer. Oh yeah, and Pirates 3.

Bionicles, er, Transformers will do ok, but fade out. They are screwing too many of the TFs. Prime is cool. Bumblebee is decent. But the rest of them have no life. Too much of a human movie.

Something to remember. The Harry Potter flick coming next summer, is one of the least favorite in the series.

Did Harry Potter move forward? There should be a nine day gap between that and transformers, not five.

I'm not sure why they picked such a date but good word of mouth should give Transformers legs.*

E: *Duh!

Yeah. Let's not forget TMNT. You never know... just like they crushed the Transformers franchise circa 1986-87 and made it look silly, so to might history repeat itself.

Bay movies have been making less and less, with word of mouth I think a big factor. Its almost like people are getting tired of the same song and dance he can't get away from doing.

My prediction is that it won't do very well the first weekend, as the trailers will fail to win the old fans nor interest the non-fans. Bad word of mouth will start out before the movie's out, and then critics will absolutely rip it to shreds once it is out. Word of mouth will continue to get worst and you'll see a huge drop off the next weekend.

This will probably match or exceed the flopitude of The Island.

True. But I myself am a big fan of the books and have seen the other four movies on their opening weekends. But this one, I'm just not in a hurry to see. And I know a few other folks that feel the same way. Transformers, on the other hand, I will be there 7-4-07, no doubt!

Yeah, but you're a Bay-Hater. I think it will do just fine. Why not see more before you decide it's gonna suck?

1. Why don't you see more before you decide it's gonna be good? All indications thus far suggest that it will be a great "robots" movie. Nothing else.

2. Dude. Everyone in Hollywood is a Bay-Hater. He's probably one of the most derided directors of all time. He has yet to make a poignant or "true" film (like Spielberg has.... countless times.... or even Sam Raimi has with A Perfect Plan).

He's been thrown A LOT of money (by Bruckheimer) and created some great Visual Video Game-esque movies.... but the guy hasn't made a real movie in his life (well, I kinda liked Bad Boys... but even that barely counts).

Being a Bay-hater is not an anomoly.

So what your saying is unless YOU like the movie it wont be any good and wont be a real movie... Ummm:confused:

He may be derided by some (i refuse to believe that you know anyone of importance to mean everyone hates him) but Id say that goes for most..

Seems most people like his movies as they do make money. Thats the point..

I'm with you, Inferno. I've loved every Bay movie I've seen. And I've loved the "real" movies as well. If you want to get technical, the 1st Transformers movie, was a really bad movie. Plot holes Optimus Prime could drive through, inconsistant animation, etc., but, everyone here reveres it as a classic, myself included. You know what, we all have to right to our own opinions, so let's all just agree to disagree. Of course, we'll all probably continue to poke fun at one-another.

Dude, the guy is a joke. Where have you been for the past 8 years?
LOL. If you watch Entourage (a very funny pseudo-insider series on HBO), you'd have seen the scene where the actor practically cries when he hears James Cameron quit his movie and Michael Bay is stepping in.

Have his movies made money? Yes... particularly because they are VERY GOOD visually exciting movies. And IMHO because they all came out BEFORE 9/11.......

Post-9/11 (not to mention recent natural disasters), it remains to be seen if his cartoony, cliche ridden, take on death and disaster will be digestable by people. I doubt it. Case-in-point; The Island was a boxoffice dud.

This isn't to say that Transformers won't turn out to be a great sci-flick in the class of Terminator, Alien, Aliens, The (first) Matrix. But, do you really think that? Come on... Really, really?

So was War of the Worlds. And that was Spielberg. And the Pirates of the Carribean movies are proof that the cartoony, cliche ridden, take on death and disaster movies still work.

People keep talking about the flop that is The Island. There is a big difference...there was not an existing fan base for The Island before it came out. Transformers has a HUGE fanbase and it is almost a household name...that alone will make it a ton of money. Some people might be right with their suggestions of a huge dropoff if the movie sucks and word of mouth is bad...but the name alone will make it a decent opening weekend.

Huh???? War of the Worlds was not a box office dud. It made 600 mil dollars. And IMHO, it was very well done (though I could have done without the basement scene which seemed to Jurassic Park-ish). I liked it a lot. Definately NOT a cartoony Bay/Emmerich-esque movie.

Pirates (which I also loved... though I haven't seen Part 2) was meant to be cartoony. I wasn't expecting Master and Commander.

Had I known beforehand that Pearl Harbor would be more like Pirates of The Carib than Master and Commander I would have been a little more prepared for the ludicrously obvious I-wanna-be-Titanic craptitude and off-the-wall totally unrealistic cartoony fighter plane scenes (according to WWII experts and veterans) that movie inflicted. I may have enjoyed it more.

Agreed. Although I have a horrible feeling that certain people are using this to take chances on the huge nostalgia crowd.

Oh and I thought WOTW was pretty poor. The FX were great but that wasn't the movie for Steven Spielberg IMO (although the bean counters were probably satisfied).

I didn't realize WOTW did so well.

Well, I guess the bottom line is that Dreamworks should be making alterations to nab the TF fanbase so as to give this movie a fighting chance by attracting all the people who have fond memories from way back of the Transformers franchise to the theaters multiple times.

Agreed. But, from the looks of it, that's not happening. This movie seems more geared toward the GenY-and-younger crowd. The larger Gen-X fanbase who don't frequent these boards but have a very very deep and ingrained affinity towards Transformers will (from the looks of it) find very very little to relate to in this movie. It is (it seems) indeed Godzilla all over again.
