Transformers Will Transformers Trounce the Competition?

TF could maybe beat FF2, but that's a battle that will be won or lost by word-of-mouth.

Harry Potter has nothing to worry about however.

Now that I've heard a little more about the crap that's getting pulled in FF2 with [BLACKOUT]Galactus[/BLACKOUT], there may indeed be a good chance of TF making better boxoffice. Of course, the fanboys hating FF2 doesn't mean that the general masses will hate it, but I'm still temped to give TF the edge now.

FF2 will do well on it's on, but I don't think it ever posed a significant threat to Transformers.

I think Transformers will take out the competition,since FF2 was a failure..i see Transformer`s real competition will be Harry Potter.

Bumping this because I'm glad my predictions for this thread for the most part were true. Seeing as how Harry Potter has been bumped by Chuck & Larry of all movies...it seems as though HP didn't affect TF as much as I thought it would. But I'm glad that my prediction that Transformers would have great WOM to give it legs held true.

This year is THE year of the sequels. We have Spider-Man 3, Pirates 3, Shrek 3, Fantastic Four 2, Die Hard 4, Harry Potter 5...and I'm sure I'm missing some. So far people have shown disappointment for SM3, Pirates 3 and Shrek 3. They are just not as fresh as they used to be. I don't believe Die Hard 4 will surprise anybody but Harry Potter 5 does look promising...though I don't predict a lot of repeat viewings for that movie. And the guy who directed Taxi is helming FF again so I won't go any further with that.

My point...do you think Transformers will be THE movie this year to beat all of these sequels? I feel it has a very good chance of being the blockbuster movie of the summer. It has all the key ingredients that will make audiences want to see it, spread the word and keep going back to it for repeat viewings. Its fun, exciting, pretty, loud and not too complicated...you know all this without even seeing the movie. As far as competition in the action department...I see only Die Hard 4 maybe coming close. But I believe Bay is a better action director than Len Wiseman.

I have issues with this film because of my lifelong addiction to Transformers but I predict this movie will be the best blockbuster movie in 2007. Thoughts?

As I predicted...this movie has truly shown that in a summer of sequels...audiences did want to see something fresh. While it may not surpass SM3 or Shrek 3...it is going to be in the top 3 of the year as far as box office. Hopefully it can pull in the extra 11+ million dollars it needs from IMAX to surpass or tie with Shrek 3.

Have your predictions held pretty good or have you been waaay off the mark? I know some people have already withdrawn their statements that this movie would barely scratch 200 million...so how have your predictions fared?

Spiderman 1 killed the competiton back in '02, and while it didn't have huge movies up against it before and after it's release, I honestly think Transformers will do very, very well. Spidey 1 did $400mil domestic, so my guess for Transformers will be $325 mil...

This was my prediction on May 27th - more than a month prior to it's release. After it's run through IMAX, I'm going to be amazingly close.
