They really need to stay away from crazy, over the top JJJ. One, it would be derivative of Simmons iconic performance. Whoever takes that part already has huge shoes to fill. Doing the same take would make it even harder. And two, that version just doesn't fit the modern, grounded world of Homecoming. I want to see the charismatic, manipulative JJJ who carries the sort of gravitas that screams he's one of the most powerful men in NYC and knows it.

Yeah. Simmons' JJJ is fine for the faux 1960's thing that Raimi had going on in the Bugle scenes but would probably not feel organic to the world of the HC Spidey world of the MCU.

I would use Ultimate JJJ as a basis. A bit less "scream at people until I get what I want," but still very wily and loves to run his mouth, with some great moments of humanity here and there.

I'd still like to see Nick Offerman play Jameson

Considering our current poltiical climate and the people that run the media currently, I feel like it'd actually be downplaying it if he wasn't a little nuts.

Nick Offerman could also be very cool. Either way, it's definitely important to do a more realistic, modern take. Especially in today's political/journalism client filled with bias and "fake news", a good take on JJJ would be incredibly relevant.

We will get a loner, frumpy looking character like Michelle named John Jacob Jingleheimerschmidt. And at the end we will find out his friends call him JJJ :o

I always thought it would be funny to see Tommy Lee Jones playing J. Jonah Jameson, but I'm not sure that would happen since he's already played a character in Marvel. Still, if it were up to me, he'd be my choice (or just bring back J.K. Simmons).

What was grounded about Homecoming? The Amazing Spider-Man was grounded. Homecoming was a slapstick 80s teen comedy that featured a superhero. The only pragmatic aspect of the entire film was Michael Keaton's portrayal of the Vulture as a construction crew manager turned villain (a brilliant story telling decision mind you).

Alfre Woodard played two different characters, so I don't see why Tommy Lee Jones could not play more than one character.

I mean "grounded" in the sense that it feels at home in the real world. We get Peter and friends actually acting like high schoolers, a younger Aunt May, etc... They've gone to great lengths to root Spidey firmly in today's world, which is why JJJ needs a new direction.

Given the eccentricities and cartoonish nature of many real life media figures, I really don't think that Simmons' flawless take on the character would be out of place in the MCU. If Marvel decided that they didn't want to try and update the Bugle then I wouldn't mind them using the JJJ as mayor, or tv personality from the comics. Simmons would be perfect for the latter especially.

I agree, they could even say J. Jonah Jameson is a descendant of that army sergent who trained Captain America!

Yes please! My pick has been Hugh Laurie for as long as I can remember, I'm sticking to that. Though interesting choice of Maron, I'd be fascinated by that.

Hell yeah man!

I have been throwing my hat in the ring for Hugh Laurie since the first TASM myself.

Considering the mid-credits of the movie hinted at The Scorpion playing a huge role in the sequel, I wouldn't be too suprised if they took partial inspiration from Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 1 #20 for the sequel and have Mac Gargan attack the Daily Bugle to lure Spider-Man, eventually allowing Spider-Man to defeat him and save J. Jonah Jameson. So, I can heavily see the Daily Bugle appearing in the sequel, with Peter just getting a job there in it.

For me, it just felt real, the high school vibes (I'm 17 so I know what high school is like these days haha)
Even as small of a character as that asian kid in the white shirt who played chess, it just felt so real. There wasn't the cliche jocks and nerds, it all just felt natural.

Yes, yes, and yes.

JJJ is LONG overdue, and it would be a disservice to the Spider-Man mythos if Marvel and Sony were too chicken to cast the character ... Again.

I get it, J.K. Simmons was perfection; lightning in a bottle, if you will. But I would still love to see what another actor could bring to the table. There's plenty of dudes who would do the role justice.
