I'm having surgery tomorrow morning to remove my wisdom teeth. They haven't grown in enough to just be pulled, so they're going to have to make incisions :csad: Frankly, I can't wait to get them out, but I was surprised at the amount of the prescriptions my oral surgeon gave me: 2 kinds of painkillers, antibiotics and some nasty-looking mouthwash. Is it really that painful?

Yes it is!:csad: You'll probably be stuck with cotton swabs in your mouth for a day or two. That's how it was with me. My oral surgeon suggested I drink lots of liquids, so yeah, I had to live off of Painkillers (which is awesome) and Powerade.

Good luck to ya.

Boo, guess I won't be going out drinking the day afterwards :(

But you have two kinds of Painkillers. That's all you need!! Forget drinking. Just pop 3 of those pills, sit back, and enjoy your high!

What kind are they??

good luck AndThePickles. i have to get mine pulled soon and i'm terrified!! :( let me know how it goes. does anyone know if you don't have insurance if they still knock you out?? thanks!!

I can't remember, but in addition to the ones prescribed, my mother has a bunch in case those don't work. So they're quite strong whatever they are.

When I did it, I didn't have insurance, and to have me put under cost 200 bucks alone, that's not including the tooth. So yeah, you'll be paying a pretty penny.:cmad:

I am one of those lucky few who's wisdom teeth come and go and whatnot......I have a ig mouth what can I say.

And Picks....you are gonna go throuh some serious suck assityness.

It's horrible and if it's anything like mine will take all damn day. You'll have a mouth full of cotton and be restricted in what you can eat for the next few days. You definitely don't want to go drinking anytime soon after the surgery. You'll risk getting a dry socket in the extraction site and I've heard those are exponentially more hell than the wisdom teeth.

I got a nice supply of codeine out of the deal though.

...while it lasted :csad:

...which was much longer than it should have. :o

They certainly wouldn't just go right in there and pull them out! I know my surgeon is knocking me out as well as giving local anesthetic. Find out if they'll put you under before you get them pulled!

i don't know what's so bad about it?
i just know that unless you want puffy yuk face, you have to actually listen to what the doctors say.
it's not like that BS they try to feed you about "take all the antibiotics til they're all gone". they're not kidding about wisdom teeth stuff.:dew:

What sucks is that I'll probably need to get mine pulled.:csad:
I have low blood sugar so me not eating for a few days isn't a good idea.
If I don't eat at least two meals a day I get headaches and my legs feel numb.

Alcohol interferes with the clotting and the proper healing of the extraction. You don't want to do anything that disturbs it; alcohol, smoking, drinking through a straw, spitting, even brushing too vigorously.

I read through all the materials they gave me afterwards way too many times. I worked myself into a paranoid frenzy about a possible infection. It thoroughly sucked. :down

my poor bro doesn't have ins and he had to get his pulled. they were all inpacted, so they had to cut the gum then pull it out. they didn't knock him out either :( i just hope this isn't too common (no ins=no knocking out).

What could you eat? Where you just limited to soup or could you eat things like pasta? I don't even really like meat that much so I won't be crying that much about not getting to eat it.

welllll, i'm sure they'll either give you some supplements or they'll tell you something that you can eat.
i'm sure they won't let you DIE just because you need your wisdom teeth taken out.

Who said I would die? I could just slip into a coma for a week until somebody finds me on the couch have starved.:csad:

I was on soup and Gatorade until things started to heal. Those were the first two things my dentist said and I didn't want to risk anything. Only things that were soft and didn't require a lot of (or any) chewing. The soups had potatoes, veggies, meat and whatever, but it wasn't like it required any effort to break down. I'm sure there's a wider variety of things you could eat but my paranoia was too much.
