No Way Home "With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility" - Tobey Maguire Returns As RaimiVerse Spider-Man

While I’m aware of a rumor of Marvel wanting Tobey and Andrew back for Secret Wars, I kind of want this to be both their swan songs to the role. I don’t need to see either of them back as Spidey after this as I couldn’t think of a higher note to go out on than this movie.

I mean, isn’t it nice both of them get to go out with well liked movies like this instead of the last movies we saw them in like Spider-Man 3 and Amazing Spider-Man 3, where they had mixed to negative reception? I don’t think we need anymore. I see this movie as more a final goodbye to them and less a promise for things to come. That being said, if Tobey Maguire ends up further appearances like a cameo in Doctor Strange Into the Multivese of Madness I won’t be against it.

Ya know…That thought had crossed my mind. This would have been a good way to end them off. I thought their send off was kind of quick though. That’s my only complaint about that. Any way, again much like you I thought this would be a nice swan song at first but…..then the fanboy in me came to life and I’ve come to the conclusion that nope…..

We need more Andrew Garfield.

Apparently they hint that he and MJ are having relationship issues? After all this time? Wonder why they went that route

For now, I'm looking at this as a goodbye to Maguire and Garfield too. I never in a million years thought I'd have the chance to see Tobey back as Spider-Man one more time. For me, it was a way of saying goodbye to a character, and an interpretation that had an enormous impact on me as a kid. I looked to the Raimi movies for the comfort, especially the first 2 because around 2002-2005 was when I needed it the most. I was so so so satisfied with how Tobey was used here and I kind of don't want to see that tarnished.

He said "Am I really gonna turn down the opportunity to be with Bryce Dallas Howard?"

Though he'd probably have to try and win her back, given how things ended between her, him, and MJ in Spider-Man 3.

No offense to Kirsten Dunst, but the least believable thing in Spider-Man 3 is not alien symbiotes and a guy who can become and control sand, it was that Maguire Peter wouldn’t immediately leave Kirsten Dunst’s whiny MJ for that really fine Bryce Dallas Howard’s Gwen Stacy. :o

Speaking of Dunst's MJ, I still would have loved to see one final scene of closure for Tobey's Peter back in his own universe reuniting with her (and maybe show that they have a kid now) before taking a final swing through the city that we never got at the end of Spider-Man 3, but I get why that wasn't done given the ending was more somber and was meant to focus on Holland's Peter. I guess it's one of those things that Feige warned about in an interview a few months back about tampering expectations for this.

As much as it made sense for the story I really wished Tobey’s Peter met:

MCU Aunt May. I know that they had to kill her off for the sake of putting stakes in the story, but it would’ve been rather funny seeing Tobey’s Peter feeling awkward and in disbelief meeting a version of his Aunt that’s attractive.:funny:

When he first came through the portal and was only wearing plain clothes, I was worried we’d get the Tom Welling treatment because he didn’t want to wear the suit anymore. Glad I was wrong.

He definitely had a more subdued performance but I chalk it up to him being the most veteran of the group.

Another aunt Milf joke? Nope.

I liked you before….

I like you much more now….

Bryce Dallas> Kirsten

I’m willing to throw down with anyone who disagrees. :ali:

He was great. My favourite of the three. Him getting stabbed got the biggest reaction at my theater. Everyone was afraid he was going to die.

I always find it funny that they cast a real life blonde like Dunst to play a fictional redhead and they cast a real life redhead like Bryce Dallas Howard to play a fictional blonde. I argue Dallas Howard would’ve been better suited to play Mary Jane and Dunst would’ve been better suited to play Gwen. Dallas Howard always felt more like MJ to me in SM3 than Dunst, imo.

So much of the Rami triolgy hinges on Peter and MJs relationship and it's so toxic uninteresting forced with zero chemistry.

I'm aboubselty shocked that they worked thing's out after Peter straight hit MJ in the face knocking her down which would no doubt remind her of her abusive father.

But it gives Toby a happy ending since it's clear he loved her since him hitting her was the motivation to get rid of the symbotie.

I imagine they took a break like the PS4 game stayed as friends dated other people MJ got more self confidence by finding another job and they slowly began having a romance again but much healthier.

God, to see him 14 years later and having become the man that his Uncle Ben always wanted and believed he would become was just incredible to watch. The way they showcased him as pretty much the big brother of the 3 Spideys was just brilliant, and the chemistry that all three had with each other just reminded me of how blessed Spider-Man has been live action wise. I love the Raimi films massively so this all actually happening is so damn surreal, and to see Tobey’s Peter so damn mature in this just made me so happy. He did it Uncle Ben!

This. It felt like a natural culmination of what he'd been through in the three movies. Ock saying to him "You're all grown up" in their reunion scene was the icing on the cake.

That was one of my favorite exchanges in the movie

Maybe I missed it the first time around but something that was Massive letdown for me was that there wasn’t any Dafoe/Tobey interactions. I mean, they are the ones that started this entire wild ride of Spider-Man movies.

Would it have really been so much to just add a minute or two between them?

Its because they wanted to to build a personal relationship between Norman and Hollands spidey.

There was a perfect moment, when Goblin recognizes Tobey after being cured. He felt so much shame… it was beautiful.

Maybe, they should have got a good fight of those two in, though.

It didn’t necessarily have to be a fight. I just would have preferred twisted crazy Norman having a moment with Tobey….some dialogue….Just felt kind of rushed to me and a missed opportunity.

Of the three Raimi villains in the movie I'm glad it was Ock who got an exchange scene with Tobey's Peter.

Octavius was the most personal villain in terms of being a reflection of Peter. Their character arcs were mirror images of each other in SM-2. Peter was being irresponsible by giving up being Spider-Man so he could live his dream of a normal life. Ock was being irresponsible by doing evil things to make his fusion reactor dream happen. In the end they both came full circle and took responsibility. They connected personally the most as people.

So it was great to have that moment with them.
