I've been subscribing to Wizard for some time now, does any know of any other Comic Magazines out there that you like better?

Yep, thanks to the internet Wizard reports are months behind. I get up to date stuff I find online then in any mag

Not really. WIZARD essentially holds a monopoly on the comic book magazine industry. There are no real competitors.

I didn't subscribe, but I used to buy it regularly for over 6 years. Rising comic totals in my pull list's every month forced me to shave the extra $6 from my budget and I was amazed by how little I missed WIZARD. Darthphere's comment is correct, the Internet provides 95% of comic news and the only scoops WIZARD gets are ones that are withheld from others just to allow WIZARD to get it.

Plus, years ago, WIZARD gleefully cooperated with Marvel in fooling the entire comic book industry to believe THE SENTRY was an actual "lost Silver Age creation", a fact that naturally turned out to be a shameless marketing stunt that the magazine still is giddy about being part of (at least they were last year when I still read it). Yeah, it wasn't hawked like DC hawked DEATH OF SUPERMAN (a stunt that, least according to articles posted on Mile High Comics, some experts believe helped lead to the crash of the 90's), but if I was a magazine devoted to serving the comic reading public, I wouldn't still be smiling about helping to mislead them for a quick buck. Wizard is.

In hindsight, I actually regret all the money I spent. The magazines have no value unto themselves and their info was usually outdated rather quickly.

In keeping with Darth's comment, I like Newsarama.com and Comics Continuum.com. IMO, the Internet has rendered comic magazines like WIZARD mostly obsolete and only nostaligia, insider ties and their monopoly keep them around.

(And yes, for the record, this IS the 447th time I mentioned the "Sentry/Wizard Sham", and yes, I AM very petty for not letting it go almost a decade later.)

Thanks for the feedback guys. Wizard is like the bills I just keep getting in my mailbox every month. I'm tired of it. You're right, the news inside is very much outdated. This month there was an article on rumored casting for the Watchmen movie. When I go on Aint-It-Cool-News later on that day they confirmed some names that were different than Wizards. I'll have to check out those sites you gave me. Thanks again.

Maybe a better question would be what comics news website do you like the most?

Myself, I prefer CBR. Newsarama is great for previews and constant updates, but I like CBR's approach that focuses more on journalism than just news flashes. I like their regular columns from Erik Larsen, Rich Johnson and their Urban Myths segment.

Although, I do think that the guy who does the Buy Pile has got the worst taste in comics I've ever seen.

Agreed.

I also like The X-Axis.com, although it deals mostly with X-books, and the reviewer sometimes is more critical than I am.

I've never been to the X-Axis. I'll check it out.

And your reviews seem to have gotten less and less critical. Maybe it's because you've stopped reading USM?

I check out the Rama, mostly because it's the internet version of Wizard and are sellouts, hence, they get a lot more creator interviews, or get them first.

Word. Although, if I said that I'd be called "pretentious" for it. :p

That helps.

Maybe quality has improved? Besides, I still think I am critical. Anything Bendis writes has an uphill battle. :p
