Anyone surprised they havent remade this film yet with how great special effects are these days?

No, because it doesn't need a remake.

A new adaptation of the book, sure. But a remake of the 1939 version? There doesn't need to be one.

I'd like to see a new adaptation of the first book and then the rest of the Baum books. They just kept getting wilder and wilder and were really cool.

They can make Wicked, but they should leave Wizard of Oz well enough alone; we have enough cable miniseries based on Oz thank you very much.

I was gonna post about the Boorman film. I'm excited about that. John Boorman is one of my favorite directors of all time. Im anxiously awaiting this.

They've remade it and done countless re-imaginings of it. But the original is a part of the public consciousness in a way I'll never be able to explain. What a wonderful movie.

Remaking this movie would be like remaking "The Godfather" or "Gone with the wind" There timeless classic's that DONT need remakes.

I can see them making a sequel like that Return to Oz movie from the 80's.

Something that keeps the locations and similar characters but totally different. like what they are doing with Alice in Wonderland.

The new version technically wouldn't be a remake, because there were a lot of elements left out of the musical version from the book. The book is actually really dark and violent, which would not be okay in a film in 1939.
I think the book should be better adapted now. The last one we had was the Tin Man, which was very MEH and the only real good thing about it was Zooey Deschanel.

I think it should still take place in the same time that the book is set in, no modern s***.

I used to have a book illustrated by the Hildebrants, and the images in the book were gorgeous. I'd love to see the movie based on those designs.

Remake or the '39 film no, retelling of the Baum book yes, there's actually a great opportunity with the many books written to re-explore the land of Oz which would be tailor made for the technology now available, I could image full CG Scarecrow, Tim woodsman and Lion as well as a bunch of other characters. But the '39 musical is so loved I believe no studio would be willing to go near a re-imagining for fear of backlash, irrespective of whether it's not a remake of that specific film or not.

If anyone does an Oz story should be Tim Burton for seems perfect for i never liked how shiny all things were. I always liked Return To Oz better even though the original was an amazing film for its time

Tim Burton doing this would be 100% cliche in this time. IMO

Yeah but he could so get the creepy feel down and give OZ more of an edge i think. I can see Christopher Lee as Oz himself or Uncle Henry.

Seriously, a non-musical version closer to the original books would be great.

I think audiences will buy it as long as it's visually unique and doesn't look like it's trying to compare to the 39 version at all.

Yeah. I mean it's only a perfect movie and all!

And I don't want to see some Disney Channel kid replacing Judy Garland. Seriously, how was that kid able to sing like that at 15? :wow:

The Wizard of Oz doesnt need any special effects imo. Chosing between a CGI Scarecrow and a guy in a costume, I would chose a guy in a costume.

^ Serious? Given the technology we've got at our disposal now Oz is the perfect to explore CG with.

Maybe they can use the Avatar's new CGI technology to animate Scarecrow, Tin Man, and the Lion.
