SPIRIT OF VENGEANCE
'Ghost Rider' writer/director Mark Steven Johnson coming to Wizard World Texas for special Q&A

ww20060915grqe0.gif

Writer/director Mark Steven Johnson is bringing Marvel's Spirit of Vengeance to life on the big screen this fall with "Ghost Rider" starring Nichloas Cage. And now's your chance to not only meet him, but also attend a special Q&A event only at Wizard World Texas! In addition, all audience members will be able to watch exclusive clips from the upcoming flick and grill the director on all things "Ghost Rider."

Johnson first broke into the movie biz as a writer penning the 1993 comedy hit "Grumpy Old Men" with Walter Mathieu and Jack lemon. He returned to write the follow-up, "Grumpier Old Men" in 1995.

He made his directorial debut in 2003, with "Daredevil", the adaption of the popular Marvel comics character starring Ben Affleck. Now, he's back behind the camera with Academy Award winner Nicholas Cage behind the wheel and coming to Wizard World Texas.

The guest list is growing every day. Don't miss out on the largest pop-culture event in the southwest! Wizard World Texas is coming November 10th-12th, 2006.

If you get close enough, get me a blood sample from MSJ...

I'm in Texas. I might go this year. Depends if I have the money by then.

We're countin' on you for details BG. I'm sure you'll have quite the story to share.

yup...all set and ready to go. bought my plane ticket early as well as hotel reservation. hopefully everything goes as planned or i might have to spend the night on a park bench somewhere..heh

does anyone have an idea about what you can bring in to one of these special showings? will they allow you to bring cameras, ect into the screening room or do you have to leave them somewhere?

Well, we know that Wisco had a camera at the Comic Con this summer, so one would assume that they'd be allowed here as well. Then again, it could have been snuck in... and besides, I guess one should never assume anything... so I'll shut up.

Anyhoo, I'm really lookin' forward to your report, which I'm sure you'll have in fine detail... right? LoL. Have fun man!

I went to Wizard World Tour, TX last year, but it just doesn't seem to fit my schedule this year:(

Plus, I wasn't that impressed with their celebrity roundup for the convention.

Hey BG, Yeah you can bring cameras.. They just ask that you turn them off when they show trailers etc... At comicon they had security with nightvision to check for people breaking the rules...Have fun BG , youll have a blast....BTW is this your first Con??? Ive been going to SDCC for about 6years now...I always have a blast..Youll want to check the itinerary for all the events big and small that happen when the show floor closes.. lots of fun can be had after midnight... Thats how i ran into Topher G downtown at the same bar we were at.

Cool!
thanks for the info Wisco!
ive been to cons before (even had a few tables of my own for a few) but only for the small timers here in Houston. this is will be my first "big one" outside of my home town. the other cons never had any major media events...so this will be a fun experience to be sure. gonna have to see if they might be playing any movies there too...

BTW...the site for Wizard World Tx just posted this neat little interview w/ MSJ.
http://www.wizarduniverse.com/conventions/texas/WW20061108-gr.cfm

nothing major but here is a quick update on the cgi:
"We won't have finished CGI, in some cases, until we deliver the film in January."

Have a blast bro.. Hit everything you need to hit, and then check out the night life afterwards... If its like San Diego, you will see plenty of eye-candy dressed up in costume..

Remember, blood sample.

That was a neat little interview, Biggun. Ta. Have fun at the con!

:word:

Hope you have a great time Biggun!:woot: Thanks for the interview link.

tanks Retro....and no prob on the interview

ok...so im here in my nice hotel room w/ hurtin feet! heh
got here about 4pm ..got settled in and then looked around the dealers room for a bit. even picked up some rare dvds and the Walking Dead vol 1 comic set for just 5 bucks (1/2 off cover)...ok haul for just getting in late on the 1st day.
saw Virgil from the old WWF days, Richard Kiel (jaws from the Bond flicks), the actress who played Lois Lane on the old Superman TV show, Lou Ferrigno from the hulk tv show...and shared the elevator w/ that engineer "chief" dude from the current Battlestar Galactica show. seems hes also staying here at the same hotel...kinda cool

let down though that there really isnt much here...dealer room is pretty big but sadly there was no GR stuff around. there were a few items from dealers of course but i was hoping there might have been a display for the game, movie ect..hopefully they might have it tommorow when MSJ shows.

anyway man im tired...or at least my feet are tired. getting a pizza from downstairs and taking it easy for the rest of the night....

Any idea what time the Ghost Rider Q & A is on?

3:30 to 4:30 (US central) in the Reeves theater

man...what a clip!
Mark was cool as always...very gracious.
he actually called me out before the q&a started..he has some extra stuff to give me after the show. they handed out posters too...the one w/ eva and nic on the front. there is also something else going on tonight...but ill say more on it later if it goes through :woot:

the clip was pretty long (10/15 min?) and the fx were excellent i thought. Mark mentioned they will be working on the fx until the end of Jan...so the stuff in the clip were still being worked on.
dont have time to go through the whole thing but it was basically shows GR being chased by the police, GR fighting Abigor (air demon) on the top of a building, GR lassoing a copter, and Cage changing back to GR.

some cool stuff of note...Wallow says "Its coming for us" (or something like that) while having a S^*T scared look on his face...so it gives the impression that some demons actually fear the Ghost Rider

GR tries to give Abigor the penance stare (even says "look into my eyes") but he merely changes to air and laughingly says "how can you catch the wind?" while he floats away. GR then "stretches" his chain while it ignites w/ hellfire..he twirls it to create a whirlwind of hellfire. Abigor looks puzzled at first but soon turns to terror as his essence starts to get sucked into the fire. he catches on fire and violently burns to death! gruesome..

its actually painful for GR to change back to Blaze...and its pretty long. his flesh "burns" back into place in patches. they show Blaze crawling on the ground in the cemetery his body wracked w/ pain. he finally reaches the tombstone of his father and collapses. you then see the end of a shovel hit the ground by Blazes face...you see Caretaker set against the sun w/ him calling Blaze "bonehead" and spitting on the ground. pure caretaker right there....

there is more to say...but i dont have time right now.
all i can say is that im even MORE pumped too see the movie now than before....the audience like it so much they played it twice!

Wow, that clip sounds great. Thanks for the report, BIGGUN

no prob...

just got back from a little event that Mark invited me to. theres a small bar on the 1st floor and it had a private party for some folks to watch the latest ultimate fighter match.
had a chance to talk w/ Mark for a bit...seemed like it was a good 30min.
very cool guy...just awesome to talk GR w/ not only a director but a big GR fan as well.
what a night....well worth coming out here.

Awesome report BG!!!! I can tell ya that when GR is over and MSJ moves on to other projects, (can i speak for everyone here?) all of us here on the hype will be following his career... hes just THAT COOL!!!!! He keeps in touch with us all and treats us as fellow movie buffs... It seems out of place but i think he said something that he wants go back to doing a comedy after this... Since i loved Grumpy 1, and 2, Im curious what hes thinking of doing??? will he both write and direct??? hhhmmmmm...
