WOLFMOTHER Saves Rock

well, i'm gonna disagree with that.

anyway, this board is about wolfmother. i'm just saying their sound is not their own. and if you wanna support the "real" creativity behind it, check out THE DATSUNS.
Well... I just grabbed The Datsuns self titled album from 2002 and I they aren't as good as Wolfmother. The vocals are kind of meh. They are alright. They sound like Wolfmother to a point... but there are differences.

I really like Wolfmother, but photojones isn't entirely wrong when he says that they took quite a few cues from The Datsuns (who also rule). Another guy ya'll should check out is Toronto's Danko Jones. He sings like Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy and his guitar riffs are reminiscent of Angus Young (though he's definitely nowhere near as talented as Angus on the axe). I also hear good things about Whitestarr and The Rye Coalition, but have yet to find any of their music to check out.

You couldn't be more wrong...I think Rage lyrics are just a wee bit too intelligent for you though. That, and they're insanely talented musicians.

Or maybe you just hate them because you're afraid of what they have to say.

"F... tha police" is a NWA song, RATM only did cover of it.

That, and they were talking about the LAPD mostly, so it's really easy to sympathize.

you are really way off... for both System and Rage

almost like aiming for the honey pot and nailing the bellybutton

I just found out that Wolfmother will be appearing on Lowlands, aka THE music festival in the Netherlands, and one I was already planning to attend. Totally cool. :D

what really bites is, the first night I heard of them, they were playing a small, rather intimate local venue in my town . . . had I known how hard they rocked, I would've left what I was doing to check them out :(

I'm sure they'll be back, and charging lots more money for a larger venue next time . . .

I'm surprised they'd travel all the way to the Netherlands, but hey, I'm game. :D

I think they're fair game for anywhere, cuz they're from the outback, mate

Heh. Oh well, I'll go and see them, barring of course there being a cooler band at the same time.

I saw Wolfmother at a music festival at the weekend, I had heard alot about them but hadn't actually heard any of their songs. They ****ing blew me away. Great energy, great riffs, great songs. Definitely have to pick up the album.

Ah man, can't wait for the end of August. Will be seeing them then.

The singer sounds too exactly like Jack White and the keyboardist has got to go.
They did not save Rock, but I like what they're doing more than....pretty much all of the s***-ass bands of today.

heh....wolfmother is playing detroit today....my friends band is opening for them....i get to go hang out backstage. sweet.

yeah, those are pretty much my thoughts. they pretty much just pillage sabbath and zeppelin, but arent nearly talented enough to justifiably do so. but even a hackneyed zeppelin is better than nickelback. that said, they do have some tunes that i totally dig, i.e. joker and the thief and the night. but i seriously cant stand that woman song. ugh!

Dont You mean WM they saved commercial rock?...

seriously the best rock music has always been the underground stuff.

W/ hard rock more good stuff breaks through- AC/DC, Led Zep, G'NR etc...

Anyone who listens to Wolfmother should also listen to some songs by Priestess... I've never heard of them before but they've got a similar sound... specifically the songs "Lay Down" and "Talk to Her".

My exact feelings on Wolfmother...

Wolfmother are awesome. Only second to Jet! Who else loves Jet? Their last album is really under-rated.
