Wolverine filming update/news.

Ahh Why are you guy's arguing about whether it was a wig or notXD
Can't we all just get along? LOL LOL.

Leon, since you found Hugh's performance in X3 to be his worst, you must be furious that he's getting another go at it and getting payed $20 million to do so.

Since I really don't have anything better to do, I'm gonna ask you to explain to me why you didn't like Hugh's most action-packed portrayal as Wolverine.

Perhaps you didn't like the Fastball Special, or the fight with Juggernaut, or the killing spree in the forest, or his confession of love to Jean Grey before killing her.

As far as I'm concerned, X3 was the dream Wolverine X-Men film. For the sake of exchanging opinions, please do explain yours.

Hey, it's the integrity of Men's Health Magazine at stake here, ant. Try to have a little more respect. :oldrazz:
But Men's Health Magazine was fine, (at least the May 2006 issue - it's sad, I know, but I checked). It talks about The Fountain, The Boy from Oz and X3 and the different fitness requirements for each and the only error I spotted was that they thought all three X-Men films were shot in Vancouver.

TL, we all have our areas of knowledge. You're clearly strong on Wolverine in the comics and others amongst us know the minor details of an actor's career. Between us, we're well-covered.

And The Fountain was released months after X3 (and over a year after it was filmed), so it would be easy to make the mistake if they didn't do their research.

I still remember Variety reporting that Hugh had a cameo as Clark Kent's father in Superman Returns...

I'm a little sad that didn't happen but I guess Fox would have been annoyed.

I wonder if it was every *really* supposed to happen - my recollection is Bryan Singer was seen having dinner with Hugh and Deb in Sydney and the rumor took off.

It's possible. I remember Famke Janssen was seen having lunch with Bryan Singer in Australia and suddenly it was getting reported that she was going to play Superman's mother.

(You think they would get some of the names right!)

Set in place... A crane lifts a pine tree into position (at left) on the set of Hollywood blockbuster Xmen Origins: Wolverine, which is being filmed at the old Milburn cement works at Burnside, Dunedin, over the next two weeks. Filming is scheduled to begin at the set tonight. Insets: Some of the actors thought to be in the cast: from top Liev Schreiber (with partner Naomi Watts); Maggie Q and Michael C. Scott.

Stars of blockbuster seen around city

THE HOLLYWOOD glitterati has rolled in to Dunedin and it seems they really are just like the rest of us.

Wolverine star and Hollywood heart-throb Hugh Jackman has been spotted working out at a city gym this week, and American actor Liev Schreiber and his partner, Australian actor Naomi Watts, were snapped shopping at The Warehouse in Maclaggan St at the weekend.

The trio are believed to be in Dunedin for filming of part of $100 million Hollywood blockbuster Xmen Origins: Wolverine, the fourth film of the popular Xmen series.

On Sunday, Schreiber and Watts, who are believed to be staying in an inner-city apartment, purchased a fan at The Warehouse and later took a walk with 6-month-old son Alexander in lower Stuart St.

Australian Jackman was approached by local media during an early morning workout at a city gym.

The movie is being filmed on sets near Lake Mahinerangi and at Burnside, in Dunedin, during the next two weeks.

Schreiber, who starred in all three Scream movies and in remakes of The Manchurian Candidate and The Omen, is rumoured to be playing the character Victor Reed and his alter-ego, Sabertooth, the archenemy of Australian actor Jackman’s character, Logan, and his alter-ego, Wolverine.

Wolverine publicist Victoria Buchan declined to confirm details of the Dunedin filming, also declining media access to the film site and stars.

‘‘They just need to get on with making the film at this point.’’

The Otago Daily Times understands crews are expected to be filming in the city for two weeks.

Filming has taken place in the Queenstown area since January and is expected to continue until April.

It is understood filming took place near Lake Mahinerangi yesterday and was expected to continue tonight with the first of three nights of outdoor filming at a set in the old Milburn cement works site at Burnside.

A set called ‘‘Cassidy’s Bar’’ is thought to have been constructed inside one of the sheds at the old cement works, to be used as the scene of a major fight between Jackman and Schreiber’s characters.

Several Dunedin companies and residents are understood to be providing services for the film.

Aside from Jackman, who is reprising the title character, Wolverine, the other actors remained unconfirmed. However, rumours on movie websites and blogs have Schreiber playing Victor Creed, and Michael C. Hall, of Dexter and Six Feet Under fame playing good-guy mutant William Stryker. Mission Impossible 3 and Die Hard 4 star Maggie Q is also rumoured to have a role.

Schreiber and Watts, who starred in The Ring movies and as Ann Darrow in Peter Jackson’s 2005 re-make of King Kong, have been in a relationship since 2005. Son Alexander Pete was born on July 26, 2007 in Los Angeles.

Watts was previously in a twoyear relationship with fellow Australian actor Heath Ledger, who recently died from an accidental overdose.

But it seems stardom has not completely gone to the heads of the stars who have stopped, chatted and posed for photos with Dunedin fans.

Melinda Joe said she bumped in to Jackman in the city yesterday morning.

She thought the actor might have told her to go away. Instead, he was pleasant and happy to have a quick chat and pose for a photo. ‘‘He said Dunedin was nice, the weather was nice and he was really liking it.’’ The meeting was a thrill for Ms Joe, who works at radio station ZM. She said she had met a few minor celebrities before, but not an ‘‘A-lister’’ like Jackman.

On Sunday, Dunedin man Allan Brent said he was a little overwhelmed when he approached a couple he thought he recognised in The Warehouse in Maclaggan St to find they were Watts and Schreiber shopping for electrical goods.

‘‘I heard their accents and thought that must be them and had to know so . . . Iwent up to them after they had bought their things and said ‘‘Are you Naomi Watts?’’ and she said ‘‘Yes, yes I am’’.

The pair were affable and pleasant, and when he apologised for interrupting them, Watts told him it was fine and that they did not mind speaking to locals, Mr Brent said.

The pair told Mr Brent they were on holiday in Dunedin and so far liked what they had seen of the city.

I laughed when they called him Victor Reed but then later used the correct name...and I guess Cassidy's bar is for reals. :p

Good article!

How about Michael C. Scott in the blurb under the picture?

I'm not furious, but I'm not excited either. I'm concerned. Before the first X-MEN movie came out, I didn't really care for Wolverine. But Jackman as Wolverine in X1 made me a huge fan of him. And I was thrilled to see him play the part again in X2. But he really disappointed me with X3, especially since he was practically in charge of that movie.

If Jackman has realized that he deviated from the essence of Wolverine in X3, and is going to bring his portrayal back closer to the roots of the character in the Wolverine movie, then I'm sure I'll be thrilled again.

As for the "positive" things you mention in X3:

Fastball special: It was cool to see, but it wasn't a big deal and it surely doesn't make up for the weak points of the movie.

Juggernaut fight: Pathetic. How am I supposed to be impressed by this crappy fight after seeing the amazing fight he had with Deathstrike in X2? Even his fight with Sabretooth at the end of X1 was much better than this fight. It was poorly choreographed, and I don't think Wolverine managed to stab Juggs even once. All of a sudden Wolverine is such a poor fighter that he can't land even one hit on this huge, slow moving guy?

Killing spree in forest: It was okay, but his killing spree in the mansion in X2 was much more impressive. This is actually a funny scene to me, because it's there just for the sake of having Wolverine kill a bunch of people. What I mean is that it doesn't even show how Wolverine was able to find Magneto's hideout, and it doesn't make sense for Wolverine to go there by himself. And this is representative of one of the main problems with the entire movie: scenes that are supposed to be cool but don't make sense. Like, why would the X-MEN be training in the danger room against a giant robot if there are no giant robots for them to fight in the real world? Who cares, it's cool.

Wolverine's confession of love to Jean: It doesn't make sense for Wolverine to truly love Jean, because in the timeline of these three movies he has known her for literally only a few days, and Wolverine is not the type of character who should be falling in love at first sight. All he should have for her is a strong, largely physical, attraction. Not to mention that at the beginning of the movie, Cyclops is the one who is still devestated by her death, not Wolverine. Yet he really loved her? BS.

Here is the problem with Wolverine in X3: They killed off Cyclops so that Wolverine could lead the team as the central character and have the love story with Jean, and in doing that they took away exactly what is appealing about him. Wolverine is a great character when he's breaking orders, not when he's giving them. When he's a wild loner, not when he's a domesticated team player. When he's a hardass, not when he's a crybaby about a woman he's know for just 5 days. It doesn't matter that he still screamed a lot while stabbing a bunch of people. Jackman played a neutered version of Wolverine in X3.

Since you say X3 was Hugh's "most action packed portrayal" of Wolverine and you care so much about the fastball special, it sounds like you're still young. I'm sure that your taste in directing/storytelling/acting will mature as you get older, and you'll be able to see X3 for the mediocre movie it really is. I am not trying to insult you, though, I'm just telling you how it is.

An interesting post on IMDB from "mad_r0" who has been pretty spot-on with various tidbits before they've appeared in print. The latest:

majority of the cast has been locked, including some surprises.

Look for an announcement closer to end of month/early next month.

I hope there are loads of surprises. And i hope they tell us very little about it but just concentrate on making it good.

What happened on here before and after X3 proves that the online community don't deserve to know much or be at all involved. The geeks and fanboys screamed for all the stuff that was in X3 then they didn't like all the stuff that was in X3.

I hope this site learns nothing about the movie! Much better to be surprised and make up your own minds.

A little blurb on a blog:

http://wordsofwonderfromdownunder.blogspot.com/2008/02/21308-funyaking-down-dart-river-valley.html

Coming up to where our journey would end, we saw the mountain that was filmed during the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, which is the mountain where the tower of Isengard was located in the movie. Also, we got to go to the site where the new film Wolverine is being filmed with Hugh Jackman. They were filming last week and again in a few weeks. We were shown this white farm house that was built just for the movie and that they were going to blow up...so everyone watch for that in a few years when the movie comes out, because I was there!

Looking forward to the casting announcements and surprises. I wonder if any other major American cast members are in NZ? The names thrown about haven't been that huge, so maybe they'll slip by unoticed compared to Hugh and Liev, who are known more there.

I hope there are loads of surprises. And i hope they tell us very little about it but just concentrate on making it good.

Yeah, hopefully things will be more top-secret with this film. Considering they're filming overseas and doing other stuff in studio in Sydney, it should stay that way...maybe. :o

Heh - those people that got the picture with Hugh - they put all the recent news and links on their website (xmenfilms.net is mentioned!) - check out the last line:

Also, a journo from the Herald wants to put the pic in her column on Sunday and lastly, had a phone call and an email from accesshollywood.com this morning, which seems to be an NBC Entertainment show in LA, who want to put them on their site also.

Cute tidbits aside from the rapids ride:

http://www.scene.co.nz/cms/scene_heard/2008/02/art10001768.php

Visiting movie star Hugh Jackman (right), in Queenstown filming X-Men Origins: Wolverine, has taken time out for a Shotover Jet ride. He was also treated by local Hollywood actor Sam Neill at his Earnscleugh vineyard on Waitangi Day to a vertical tasting of Neill’s Two Paddocks wines. I’m also told Jackman shouts his crew Instant Kiwi scratchies every Friday.

This photo is attached - if you look closely you can see he has on the life vest from the rapids ride and that leather jacket under it. I wish this picture was larger since I think everyone from that ride is probably in the picture.

And:

http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=12988

You mentioned that you’re working on “Wolverine” and “The A-Team.” Can you tell us anything about those films?
We’re getting some great stuff [for “Wolverine”]. I’m not allowed to talk very much about it but I can say that I think it’s got a lot for the fans that they’re going to really enjoy. If I had to describe the movie on any level, I would say, well, the line we’ve been using on set is “It’s Clint Eastwood with Claws.” And Hugh [Jackman] is doing some pretty amazing stuff in that regard.

(You think they would get some of the names right!)
