It's really not as interesting as it sounds. Of course I will say that having the opportunity to look the guy straight in the eye and tell him what I think about that story was shockingly therapeutic.

So. This year. I could only make the DC panel on Saturday, but it seems like this year was a lot more boring than last year, and it has to be said that it's mostly because DiDio wasn't there. DiDio is a wild b**** onstage and really does bring the energy to these panels. Ian Sattler tried to bring it, but he's no wild b****. There weren't a lot of jokes, there were almost no announcements, there were only four writers on the panel and one of them (guy who was writing one of the FC Aftermaths) left halfway through. We ended up with just...people talking about their projects. ****, James Robinson went on for like twenty whole ****ing minutes just monologuing about all of the Superman books, even the ones that he doesn't write, except that it's all **** we already knew. In English! And I mean English English, not real American English. Bored. Now.

On that note, Robinson seems like a total *****ebag. You can totally see why this *****ebag writes a *****ebaggy Superman. But hey, let me clarify: he seems like a totally awesome *****ebag. Like, he's hella awesome and intelligent and actually knows what he's talking about. If you called him a *****ebag, he'd just do something totally awesome in your face and then you'd be like "Oh ****, that was awesome." And out of all the panelists, I feel like he's the guy who actually gets the fans the most. More on this later.

Almost everyone is asking multiple questions, and some ****ers are even asking four or five. So I figured I would start off with with something nonchalant and then move in for what I really wanted to ask.
(And ugh, can I just say that I am pissed pissed PISSED that both newsarama and cbr didn't print my second question, because it was the one that I really wanted to ask. All they got was the first part, which was just a throwaway on my part. Mofos! Or maybe they left it out on purpose. Mofos!)

First, I asked Robinson if Captain Atom was still slated to appear in the Superman book, and he said that he was. And that was that. So then I mentioned to the panel that DC seems really intent on assuring everyone that legacy characters still have a place and are respected in the DCU (earlier, someone had of course asked the obligatory "Wally West...still be around?" with the obligatory "Yes, he'll still be around" answer)...on the other hand, I mentioned, despite those assurances, we ended up getting the whole Cassandra Cain situation, and then Connor Hawke gets put into a coma and then has his memory erased (at which point I directed the above exchange at Winick), and Kyle getting thrown about every which way until very recently finding a good direction, and etc etc. Basically I said that even though DC seems to really believe that they're doing good by these guys, it really isn't coming across in the stories. Okay, I said it less eloquently than that, but I think the point got across.

Sattler was good-humored about it, but he gave a fairly obligatory response: keep on reading, there's plans for these people, totally. Really. Which would have been fine enough for an answer, and honestly it helps just to hear someone say it out line.

Robinson surprised me, though. He kindofnotreally cut in to whatever Sattler was saying and told me, in a completely deadpan and unpretentious way, that he does know exactly what I'm talking about, because he honestly feels the exact same affection towards those characters. He completely understands why I'm not buying the company line, but he also encourages me, "no BS," to keep on reading, because there's plans for these people.

And I believe him.

Am I a total schmuck, or am I the biggest schmuck?

And then I went to Pixar's "Up" preview, and that movie looks awesome.

The end!

I went had a great time saturday

Those two new Batman books they announced sound cool...:brucebat:

You've raised the bar for all of us BeeDubya. Good work.

Oh and I don't know what it was, but the friggin' DC booth in the big hall was completely fraggin' empty. Like, everyone else around them was ****ing themselves out like nobody's business, but when I got to the DC table there were no posters, no stickers, no management, no nuthin'. Was that the case for everyone else?

Oooh, and Mark Hamill and Carrie Fischer were there. I was pissing myself in my penis, until I found out that they were charging $100 and $35 respectively for autographs.

Yeah no.

Is that normal? Is that the standard rate? For autographs? Yeah no.

"pissing myself in my penis"???? :woot:

Last year at Dragon Con, Robert Englund charged me 25 bucks, but Edward james Olmos and that hot little blond from Heroes were charging 75....

i GUESS Mark Hamill is at the 100 dollar level...i personally dont like Star Wars enough to pay that....i'd consider it if he would do his Joker voice for my ringtones or something though....

But you tell ME; were fans paying that for him? i mean, the little blond hottie from Heroes had the biggest line out of all the celebs there, and people were paying.

F*** that. I wouldn't pay a dime for anyone's autograph. If you're gonna go out and be there for your fans, don't charge them for it. Meh.

Here's what Robert signed for me for 25:

He was actually impressed and told me i was the first fan yet to bring him any Vulture stuff to be signed...(most of his fans are all about Elm Street. :cwink: )...

I'm disappointed you didn't Pedro Winnick's ass. In a non gay way. Wait, I really don't know what I'm saying here. I guess what I want to say is, you gave Pedro AIDS and Winnick is a horrible writer. Wait, what the ****. I'm never drinking with Womp again.

That was you? You have nicer **** than I imagined.

I'd like to have, um, Pedro'd Winick further, but truth be told I was actually a bit scared of him. If you've ever seen him, the guy has deadass scary eyes. We're talking black lanterns, here.

To be fair to Luke and Leia, it may be the 'Con itself that enforces the autograph charge. I wouldn't be too shocked if the stars themselves get only a fraction of that revenue.

Good for you Brian! I wish an awesome con would come to STL so I could ask the creative heads why they feel the need to be idiots.

I have to say, as one SS-M fan to another...that's freakin' awesome!

I went but missed the panels and previews... i was either busy Looking books i needed or kicking MAJOR ass at the capcom booth in SF4 :o.... i have the blood blister to prove it :csad:

You guys do realize that Mark Hamill is poor and still drives the 1984 Ford Bronco that he bought with his Return of the Jedi money, right?

Warner Bros. has to be paying him well enough for voicing the Joker in practically everything except for The Batman.

He also must make money everytime lucas releases the OT on DVD. Plus the you know THOUSANDS of Luke SKywalker figures out there with his likeness. Or did Lucas buy his Fords and Fishers Faces I think he did but in any case im sure they still get some of the profits.

Plus all the lame ass EU novels that come out. He might not get a cut of those though.

Hopefully he didnt get a flat rate for Joker though, and gets like a nickel for ever JLU dvd. I wonder how much Conroy makes.

What's lame about the EU novels? I've heard they're pretty good.
