Worst Special Effects

The top 10 worst special effects according to Empire May issue:
10. King Kong (1976)
9. The Mummy Returns
8. Slugs
7. Escape from L.A.
6. The Lost World (1960)
5. Predator
4. The Abyss
3. A Nightmare on Elm Street
2. Alien Resurrection
1. Plan 9 From Outer Space

Who do you guys think about this list? I hardly agree with any of this except number one. What are some other movies with terrible special effects?
Um? what? That list SUCKS! :down Why are the ones in bold even on it?

the only one i agree with on there is Escape from L.A. they need to throw in UltraViolet and Resident Evil.

Heh, I wouldn't of thrown ultraviolet in there, besides the movie being a little weak, the special effects were good.

Not sure what criteria they were doing. Don't seem like it was any set one at that. Theres alot of movies with worse special effects than those. The movies from the 60/70's are all not gonna have good special effects by today's standards.

Stupidest list in Empire history,Predator and the Abyss ?:whatever:

Do they realize A Nightmare On Elm Street was an independent film made for only $1 million?

the suit changing color and a couple of the other effects were handled nicely but the effects involving heavy greenscreening were painful to watch...

Why isn't 'Mission To Mars' on there?

i didn't think the effects in that movie were bad at all. the effects in 'Red Planet' were worse...

how in the f**k can James Cameron's "The Abyss" be on this list ???

This is a joke !!

empire is a joke !!!

abyss had groundbreaking special effects when it came out and even to this day its bloody awesome!

what a ridiculous list!

And Predator was awesome !
the effects were beyond top notch, they were astounding,

it must have been a person on crack who made this list

there can be no other reason!

Lou Ferrigno's Hercules 1 & 2.

It's inexcusable that by the time this movies came out they could still be using cheaply made paper mache sets and props along with disco lights crappy costumes.

A Nightmare on Elm St had some pretty badass effects for its day. The girl being killed while rolling around on the ceiling? Johnny Depp being sucked into a bed? For such a cheaply made movie, those effects kick ass.

This list is whack.

okay, seriously... tht is the worst list, in the history of lists... Predator has good effects, same with the abyss and alien R....

Many of the others, are just dated..... but were decent for their time....

What about Lost in Space the movie, or that one with the monsters ont he cruise ship..... with Jean Grey......

what about Superman the movie? or Star Wars for that matter... those are dated as well, but Empire won't touch those because they are classic... stupid magazine....

You beat me to it. I don't understand why Jaws IV, Superman IV and A Sound of Thunder aren't on there.

The effects for A Sound of Thunder were extremely lacking, but the CGI monsters were just awful (particularly the water eel and the baboon-lizards). The backgrounds and minor stuff were good, though.

I blame the lack of funds the WB parlayed into it. It seems like the WB only paid the company enough money to pay the cheapest special effects houses to complete it and not spend enough money on making it look better. Had the CGI been done by ILM, WETA or even Sony Pictures Imageworks, the CGI would've looked much better and less noticeable.

anyone seen the langoliers??? I know it's a made for TV movie... but, by far the worst EVER...

The Golden Child has some pretty bad special effects to go along with the bad movie.

anacondas has great fx to this day^

A sound of thunder was a great movie..... but with horrible fx :(

BTW.....I sort of read the article and its not so much saying these films have awful effects as a whole but rather are describing certain effects in each film.

Like for example Predator makes the list due to less than convincing effects when Carl Weathers arm is blasted off.

PREDATOR

whomever wrote that article was an idiot, I didn't see nothing fake with Weather's arm being blown off, infact they did a terrific job....very convincing if you ask me like the rest of the movie....GOD I HATE THAT LIST AND THE PERSON REPONSIBLE FOR IT.

I think Sam Jones 'Flash Gordon' should be up there too.
