Would a zombie MMO work?

I was playing Dead Rising yesterday when it hit me that a zombie MMO set in a Land of the Dead/Mad Max type atmosphere would be pretty damn sweet. It kicks so much ass killing zombies and running around that I can only imagine how great it would be in a co-op/team situation. Making runs for supplies, attacking other settlements, traveling across vast zombie-infested lands. Am I wrong or would that be seriously badass?

As long as it's better than the Resident Evil Online games...which were horrible.

I dreamed of one ever since I first played a MMOG, Asheron's Call way back in the 90's. On Darktide, their PVP server, we were hiding out in this remote cottage from bad-ass high level guys and it felt just like living a zombie movie.

Only problem is, in a MMOG, it's cool to have one character that you develop over a course of months and months, so you die, resurrect and fight to repair the damage from your death.

But the cool thing in Zombie worlds is the terror of knowing that if a friend gets just one bite, he's going to become a zombie and you'll have to kill your friend or he'll eventually try to eat you. But nobody wants to play a zombie character from then on out if they die just once.

If you just made it like a normal game it would just be Online Resident Evil on a grander scale with the ability to communicate, or just like any MMORPG only way more boring, with only undead monsters.

Hell yes!!!
But it would be very repetative to be a zombie.
eat guts, walk a little, kill a living person, eat guts, rinse and repeat.
As a living person you get crazy with custimization options.
you could have factions, like in Dawn of the Dead. You have the Mad Max type bikers, who go around just kill ing zombies and looting stores.
Then you would have the Government, then an Evil corperation that started the whole thing. Then you would have a faction of normal people.
