opinions please
If they could do it better, I'd say it was fine... but the fact is, it's not.opinions please
F'n right. It might not have been as bad if MJ was a more likeable character. But she wasn't.
Had Peter been head over heels for Gwen for three movies, I think it would have come off much better, because Gwen was such a likeable character. And more attractive, too.
It certainly didn't hurt TDK.
Romance is fine because clearly Peter and MJ's relationship is a big deal, but for the love of God Raimi/whoever directs it, stop making it so corny and on the nose!

And what does that have to do with Spider-Man?
What?... I didn't see any exclaimation points in his post, so he seems to be fineCool It Now.
Cool It Now.
Alright, I was a bit confused there, sorryI'm talking about the romance in the Spidey films, cool it now, less romance. They especially went overboard with having a love triangle in all three movies. I guess it's to match MJ getting kidnapped by the villain(s) in all three movies. Thank goodness for a new writer for SM4. Let's hope he has something new.
A lot. TDK's on course to become the biggest comic book money maker ever, so it proves that a lot of romance isn't necessary to make a very well-received movie of this genre. MJ is clearly an important character, but TDK proves audiences don't need the romance side shoved down their throats.
Dude, I guess you're pretty sick and tired of all these people posting about 'The Dark Knight' in other threads(it's beginning to annoy myself, as well), but he makes a good point. Let's say if Mary Jane died in the first film, of course you wouldn't care because her character wasn't there all the way, the second time if she died... who the %^&$ cares, I was saying kill that &!#@% off from the get-go and in the third... I was ready and willing to kill her myself(if the character was actually real, I'm not talking about killing Dunst or anything... ). Anyways, I felt the same way about Rachel Dawes in 'Batman Begins', I think to myself at times now that [BLACKOUT]her death[/BLACKOUT] in 'TDK' would've made me care a lot more if Maggie was Dawes throughout the first(considering I hated Katie "Wooden, 'Holmes on Homes'" Holmes). Anyhow, I think he's just saying that they can make the character of Mary Jane better by using an example which just happens to be, 'The Dark Knight'.And for what I'm sure is the billionth time, Batman =/= Spider-Man.
Two completely different characters, with completely different mythologies, whose stories happen in completely different contexts. Just because a romance angle would be secondary in BB and TDK does not mean the same is true for Spidey.
You know, Im very picky when it comes to romantic stories. The Spidey trilogy had not real romance in my opinion. All of it was just clichés, lust, cheating, love triangle bullcrap and at the end it was fake and insulting. Sam Raimi and writers cant do true romance. Before subtracting any romantic drama from the franchise, they need have it done right at least once. Otherwise the trilogy really went overboard. They need to show that characters have real lives that dont necessarily revolve around them running after each other.
