Would the CGI in your case break the movie if it was terrible?

But it's a movie though. It's not like they used real satanic skin for Hellboy's make-up.
Material mimicking material is standard practice. Thanks for reminding me that satanic skin (?) wasn't actually used. Now that that's out of the way, maybe you can also enlighten me on what real-world material can mimic the immaterial? I feel like I'm in a foreign place or something with how such a simple concept can't be understood. Light cannot be physically replicated in costume form. You can use any material in the world, and all cg-enhancing would do is to erase what you put into the equation in the first place. There's absolutely no need to add another variable in there. The artists need to work on the rendering, as 100% of the suit essentially exists in virtual form.

It's absolutely possible to do. The only question is if they can maintain this quality to the rest of the movie.

I have a question...

If the suit is just light, does that mean Hal is naked!? :O

No, it means there's a hard light projection covering whatever clothes he had on ... like in the preview. Or you could say that the clothes go into the same pocket universe where he hides the lantern while he's wearing the suit.

I always thought he transformed the material with his ring. Huh.

Ahh... right, thanks dude. :)
