There is now a chip about the size of a grain of rice that can be placed under the skin that can be tracked via satellite. Growing up in our small town i would have never wanted my parents to do such a thing but the times are different now and not too long ago we had a 5 year old girl missing for two weeks from our town and she was found 2 states away although be it "family friends" who had her.

Would you consider such an option?

My wife and i have discussed this before we pretty much agreed that we wouldnt be against it but we would have to learn more about it. We would consider it insurance for our greatest investments.

Oh, i forgot to add that data could be stored on these chips as well, like medical records, allergies, and other such information.

There is an old phrase: Science progresses faster than ethics.

It doesn't sound like either of those (tracking people and storing medical records) is available right now, but they do say the potential is there in the future.

I wouldn't have a problem with having an implant that gave doctors/hospitals access to my medical and emergency contact information, nor having the same for my family.

As for a chip to 'track' my children. That one is a tougher question. I'd really have to understand how it worked, I think. In essence, wouldn't the GPS transmitter have to be 'on' all the time? And isn't there the possibility that could be harmful if someone is exposed to even low levels of the broadcast frequencies of that over the course of a lifetime? And what are the frequencies at which it broadcasts? What sort of devices could pick it up? How 'secure' would they really be? Or could it be turned against someone (a stalker, for example, able to electronically track someone)?

The chip sounds like a good idea at first glance, but has way too much slippery slope potential. First it's for scared/overprotective parents, next it's implanted in every newborn, then anyone under the age of thirteen, pretty soon everyone's got one and we can be tracked at all times.

The chip they have for pets which has been in production and circulating for over 5 years DOES have those attributes (in bold)

I suggest you read the article again.

i wouldnt mind it, but wat im paranoid about is my parents placing a sound recorder that size in my clothes or watever....

I suspect some christian to come here and spout scripture about how this is the mark of the beast and such.

It's a possiblity. But chips like these are just one more step towards the one world government.

if i ruled the world i'd have everyone chipped. but the information gathered would only be accessed in the case of murder or something. i haven't figured the details out yet. the use of information would require the authorisation of several citizen in conjuction with police officers and judges to access. such that it could only be accessed at trial.

But hackers will get into all that info regardless the measures you take.

i dont see why not
theres a tracker in both my dogs
downstairs right now

one way data flows with a manual break on the retrieval side.

No, I wouldn't put this in my kids. I don't need to know where they are 24/7, the low levels of radiation could hurt them over time (like in cell phones), it'd prolly cost a bit, they wouldn't be in danger anyway cause I don't plan on living in anything other than a little city, etc.

Naw, the chip implanted into people to allow them to buy groceries and stuff is more similar to the mark of the beast. What do you have against Christians anyway?

I remember being a kid. this was one of the things people were worried would happen in the future. they were afraid it woudl start with pets, the it would move onto children, then sex offenders, then everybody convicted of any crime whatsoever, and last but not least everybody.

those kinds of rules only stop evidence from being admissed at trial. they don't stop cops from doing it. they are supposed to stop them, but it never does.

Nothing. I am a christian but look down upon my own who view everything as an extreme.
