Would you trade an 8th season of the show to see Welling in the JLA film?

Serious question. Would you be willing to give up an 8th season of Smallville in order to have Tom Welling done the :supes: in the proposed JLA film?

The alleged script that WB likes so much uses a younger Superman, which would line up pretty well with how Smallville will end. Plus, Tom has been rumored as a possible choice for the film.

Now granted if Tom were to do a film of this scope, he wouldnt have the time to also do an 8th season of Smallville, so Al & Miles would have to kickoff the infamous 10 episode "launch sequence" they always talk about in order to end the show how they want to.

I for one would be willing to forego an 8th season of the show, if it meant getting Tom in the cape and tights (where he rightfully belongs) in Summer 2009.

What say you?

I voted for Tom doing the JLA movie but I don't think it will happen and if it does it wouldn't keep Tom from making an 8th season.

The studios are looking to get stuff in the can before the June 30th deadline for a potential strike of the Actor and Director Guilds...

Unless Supes had a relatively small part in the film, I think it would be difficult for Tom to get much in the can before the end of June but that would be well before the 8th season would start to film in any case.

They usually start the second week of July.

Not really. I would rather have one more season of one of the only shows I take the time out of my busy life to watch.

A JLA movie would be cool....but 2 hours of a possibly lame movie can't outwiegh 22 episodes of a show I love to watch.:o

I don't know about trading, neither JLA nor MOS are certain things.

It certainly depends on a lot of factors, I don't see any reason to sacrifice SV though, he could do both really as long as scheduling permits.

Welling is signed for an 8th Season along with Durance & Glover, so I think I'll just wait and see how all of this unfolds.

Long time no see! Good to see you back

As for the this poll, I don't think it's an either/or question anyway.

If Tom does it, the filming sked would be done well before the 8th season starts production so he could do both, if they can work around his work on the end of the 7th season that is...

I'm far too torn to make a decision about this.

I want both.

Yea, I'm going to try and chat a little more than I have been....life, the universe, and everything....you know how it is.:cwink:

Hopefully life will be back to normal once the season starts and then I can chat it up with my favorite guys and gals.

One thing though, why do we have a topic about Chlois around here? It is scaring me...have things changed so much? :csad:

Out of curiosity, why would Tom being cast in a JLA film (should one get greenlit) effect his returning to SV for an eighth and final season?

[Takes deep breath and hopes this thread doesn't get closed]

Welling *could* do both, but only IF Warners re-heeeeeeeeely wanted him to. And that's debatable. Some execs may want him, but how many in decision making positions re-heeeeely want him is the question. Anyhoo, here's my spec, assuming all parties are willing <- KEY point ...to make this happen:

G&M HAVE to get a verbal from CW by November, early December at the latest, if SV is going to be picked up for an eighth and final season. They need to know because of the 10 episode launch sequence. IF CW says it's a go for S8, it complicates things a little, but it could still be done. Lets assume that is the case.

Okay, first off, JLA would *have* to shoot in Vancouver for this to work. Current rumor says that it will be, so that's good. Welling would have to pull double duty for the last month or so of filming. He's done it before AS the lead of a major motion picture. The Fog was no tentpole, but it wasn't an indie production either.

So S7 goes the full 22 this year. JLA starts principal without Welling in March (ish). They have a lot of characters to service; Superman isn't going to be in every scene. Welling could show up about a month into production, with still a few weeks left to do on SV. He can do his reference photography and costume fitting during the SV winter and spring hiatus. (The guy will be exhausted before he even gets to the JLA set, but I'd bet he's used to that kind of pressure by now.)

Principal photography on JLA ends on June 30th because of the impending strikes. Welling gets two weeks off (oooo!

) and then he goes back to the SV set in mid July to begin shooting SV's eighth and final season.

S8 will of course be the final horah. Going into the season with the knowledge that This. Is. It. would make it easier on the writers, because everything in that season would be leading up to the big reveal - which btw would be shown because, well, there won't be a problem with Welling being seen in the tights if he's been cast in JLA LOL!

Warners can use SV's eighth season to cross promote the JLA film. As IESB phrased it: "They [Warners] also want to start building a fan base behind the new heroes that will help them go on to have their own stand-alone films."

I feel like I'm back in the summer of '04 again, but this *could* work, IF they wanted it to. And I really can't stress that point enough. Everybody would have to really want this to go down. If any one party - not the least being Welling himself LOL - says thanks but no thanks, the jigs up.

And that my friends, is my humble OPINION.

So I guess I can't answer the question because I don't believe the show has to be sacrificed for the film. It's not 2004 anymore. ;)

Wasn't it an 11 or 12 episode launch sequence?

Someone explain to the girl whose had a bit too much wine tonight - what is the launch sequence?

Uhm, I had just pointed that out...

I think he could do it, if they want him to but it's like the summer of 2004 all over again...

I was just reminiscing with Serene in IM about it.

;)

Good times...

launch sequence=story arc that builds to the series finale

Nevermind. My little IM birdie cut through my fog.

Fog. Get it? *cracking myself up*

You're so picky! LOLOL!! ;) :p :D

Yeah, I guess it is "11 or 12." Here's the quote:

AL GOUGH said:
We feel really good about next season and I think we have eight seasons worth of stories to tell, but in the middle of next season, November, when we're in episode 10 or 11. We have to know. Is there going to be eight, or are we done? Because if we’re done, we have to know, we have to start the launch sequence to end it.

Tom in JLA would ROCK!!!:woot:

P.S: IF Gough & Miller would get the 11 or 12 epsode launch sequence order from WB/CW and are also told they wouldn't be getting a superskirt spin off what do you think would happen to said superskirt?

I think they should end it at seven. Charmed went on to eight season and it didn't turn out great.

First, I would not give up an 8th season of smallville for anything.

Second, if there is a JLA film, I want Routh to be in it.

Third, Tom Welling is Clark Kent, Brandon Routh is Superman.

Okay, that makes no sense.

Clark Kent IS Superman.

(check out my sig)

Not that I'm dissing your preference for a "film" superman, but I think you have to come up with a better argument than this to persuade anyone...

I think smallville has a big enough cast now to go on without Tom. Movie sounds good.

How could Smallville, the story of Superman growing up, go on without Clark?
