Now while we're all hoping that season 8 will be the last so that Smallville can go out with a bang, recent developments and theories do pose a interesting question:

Is season 8 really the last for Smallville?

Why I say this is because people have been speculating based on the new producers comments of them saving over and over how they hope season 8 is not the last and whenever they talked about the ending of the series they would quickly add in how they don't want that to happen for a LONG TIME!!

And with their recent interviews, dare I say that they're contemplating on continuing the show even without Tom Welling should he decide not to stay on. Even MR and KK gone and Tom welling most likely to leave after season 8, that'll leave Allison Mack. And from the looks of it, the PS3 have in mind to keep going on, saying that it would be a spin off if Tom doesn't return.

My god, it's like "Friends" and "Three's company" all over again where they just don't want to give a proper ending to the series. I mean really, how much further could you go on with the show without hurting the character's development. Just look at season 6, Clark was all ready at the beginning to accept his destiny but as soon as they found out that they were going to have another season, the producers halted Clark's development with the whole Clexana triangle.

i think your partly right, im a huge smallville fan and superman fan and although some of the episodes in prior seasons where stale and not as entertaining as ones in seasons previous i still do like to watch it and if it goes past eight then id happily accept that.

and it all comes down to whether the people keep watchin...plain and simple, if you want it ended people have to turn off.

You're going into spin-off territory & not Smallville anymore.

I don't know why this question always gets asked before a season begins, when it should be asked in the middle or close to the end of a season, when we're really have something concrete in our hands.

Its way to early right now to know if season 8 will be the last or not. I seriously doubt they would continue the show as smallville if tom doesnt sign for more. They are likely planning this to be the end and just saying they hope to go longer because they want to continue their jobs and not end. Really since the season hasnt aired yet we have no clue if it will be the end or not. Another season counts on the factors that the episodes do well in ratings, their is a network to air on, and if the actors tom and other sign deal for more. If they dont have tom signed for more by mid season that leave plently of time to end the show on a high note still. Then move on to a spin off show be that green arrow solo or justice league.

If tom is on board and the cw doesnt fold then i say there will be a nine

I hope and pray Tom doesn't agree to another season, they can have a spin-off with Green Arrow or something and end Smallville properly.

It will be the last one I hope. It's time and they should end it properly.

I hope it's the last season. I love the show but how much could they stretch Clark's transition to Superman?

This is the LAST seseaon no matter what these producers say

even they know that this is the least seseaon so that's why they are putting lots of intresting stuff in season 8

producers are juts "hoping" for next seseaon it doesn't mean they will actually do it

I agree. If Tom signs, they'll do another season. I mean c'mon, it's one of the biggest money makers for the CW. We'll see though, nothing is written in stone as of yet.

In my opinion, I'm enjoying the show immensly, even the so called "filler" and changes that people come here and gripe about like they are being caused physical pain by it. The only other show I watch is Eureka, so if they keep it around, I'm ok with it.

But if they don't, I want a Green Arrow/JLA spin-off with Clark cameos.

Yea its way to early to think about another season when they have only liek 5 scripts written for this season and only filmed 3 of them at this present time. Then none of the episodes have aired yet either. I do agree the producers would love to continue and do much and thats why they say they want more seasons. but realistically they know tom is only signed for this season and isnt likely to do more. So hopefully they are planning the season to be the end but if tom does sign early enough to change things to continue. But they probably have plans to end the show this coming season.

I can live with that. GA spinoff would be cool, actually.

i like to see JL spinoof after smallville is done

with TW as superman

with other members and add other heroes like GL ,wonderwoman and more

then expect this show to get highest ratings on TV

Yea i would love to see jla a little more then solo ga show. Then get tom, laura and other smallville guys to pop in once in awhile.

I want it to be the end with three possible moves to go with next:

1. Do a JLA Series afterwards (With cameos or regulars from all the original actors)
2. Wait a few years and do a Metropolis show
3. End it

how about supergirl spinoff

with TW as superman making a camoe once in a while

a GA spin-off may be out of the question as the writer of SuperMax anticipates the GA movie to start going forward in the next year

thing with smallville is that its universe is quite vast they can make spinoff of any character or storyline

even spinff off on Luthors could work as long fans like the spinoff

I don't think it's the end until the decision to not renew comes in, probably just under a year from now. If there's any chance they could continue making money off of this show (and I do mean this show, and not a spin-off), they're probably going to take it. Whether it includes hardly any of the original cast isn't important. The money is.

They should end this season, enough with this dragging just to make more money, a spin-off is fine though.

If thats the case, wouldn't Smallville not be allowed to use Green Arrow/Oliver Queen?

^^ Yes, it could be a problem, but is up to DC and the studios to decide.

Totally agree.

I hope Tom doesn't sign for another year... I might still watch a show with the other cast, but I won't be nearly as invested in it (ie: won't review it).

An Ollie spin-off makes sense, especially given the holding agreement (or whatever they call it) Warner's has with Justin Hartley... if one of his episodes act as a back-door Pilot for a Green Arrow series, then I hope The CW last long enough to do it.

I like Justin's Oliver and I like Alaina's Dinah.

I'm all for it.

What I'm not up for is them dragging it on only to squeeze more money out of the show. Tom needs to move on.

If he does agree to a 9th season, I would bet that they'll be paying really huge bucks to get him for another year. And remember, the show's revenue stream is only partly filled by original airings.

Syndicated reruns, DVD sales and other merchandizing probably makes the money they get from original airing of episodes on The CW seem like a drop in the bucket.

If they can talk Tom into one more year after this, I hope they pay him what he's worth.

I read somewhere that Charlie Sheen gets millions a year for Two and a Half Men (350k an episode).

So, what would Tom be making? Smallville has a fraction of the audience (4 million vs 15), but Smallville sells other products big time...

Would another increase in pay plus significant profit participation be enough?

I hope he doesn't sign because as a fan I would really want to see what else he can do, but if he does I hope he makes them shell out big time. He deserves the extra pay for all the hard work he does...

I'd prefer that they end SV on a high note and let Tom move on. But if there is enough $$$ to be made, who knows what people will choose to do. It's a tough business with no guarantees for anyone.

It really sounds like the new PS3 honchos want their reign to continue for more than one season. I wonder if they are hoping more for a SV 9th season, a GA series, or a JL series?
