Just when we're starting to get over the loss of "Smallville" from our viewing schedules, series star Tom Welling drops a tease like this. At a recent SAG Foundation golf event, Welling told OnTheRedCarpet that he wouldn't rule out the idea of a "Smallville" movie to update fans on the characters.

He says that early in the series, producers had discussed doing a movie to transition the characters from high school through college. "We played with the idea and what we found was there wasn't time," he says.

"Who knows in the future." he adds, saying that if he was offered an opportunity to play Clark Kent in a "Smallville" movie, he wouldn't turn the gig down. "Sure, I don't see why not," he says.

Strikes me as hypothetical "I'm out of a job" talk more than anything, but, still...

I tell you this: if they didn't have the phrase "will don the Superman suit and cape" in the press release announcing such a film was to be made, it would be crucifixion time. :oldrazz:

Even IF the film did happen, unless the events of the film take place before the events of the finale, then there's really no way that Tom could avoid wearing the suit the right way unless they want to literally crucify themselves on screen by the anger and criticism of fans and reviewers alike.

Be that as it may, I'm not sure if Warners would allow two different suited versions of Superman to be going around with MOS being released next year, and I doubt that they'll be able to make a SV movie the end of the year.

The only Smallville that I could see would take place between Prophecy and Finale where Clark and the Justice League take on the Legion of Doom. If there were to be Smallville movies that take place after the Finale, TW would have to wear the suit. :super:

I guess he's not getting much work ? Outside of the rumors that is. But either way he has to realize be in the suit for real or fans won't even care for future movies after one bad one

You have to give the guy credit. He stayed true to what the show was about until the very end even when fans hated him for it. I don't think he would be opposed to wearing the suit since he'll be Superman now.

I Love this though it's in the speculation stage.

I'd like to hear Welling being "Open" to wearing the suit now. :p

A two hour movie with just Clark Kent(Who is Superman already!) running around.

I guess he's not getting much work ?

The Fog
Cheaper by the Dozen 1 and 2

Yeah he was in real demand when Smallville was on >_>

He can say that now because he knows it's not going to happen. I love Smallville despite some of it's problems but for me it's to little to late for him to say he would wear the suit, he had a chance to wear the suit and reward the fans waiting 10 seasons for that moment but he couldn't even do that for five minutes. The time has passed for me wanting to see him as Superman and now I'm looking forward to Snyder's movie which I hope turns out to be great.

Wonderful, did anyone ever explain why he decided to insult everyone's intelligence and go down in history as a giant <Insert your favorite derogatory word here> and not wear the suit and everything.

Seriously, I don't understand that at all. :(
That was insulting at the very least, and should be a violation of some contract somehow.

10 years, we waited for him to don the suit, and we get ass.
The only good thing in the finale was the Silver Age Superman moving of planets.

Honestly, I could go on for a decade of how bad it was.
I did like it at the time, but looking back, I could have written a better finale. That wouldn't make the show more infamous than the Soprano's finale, and Sliders being canceled halfway through season 5.

All jokes aside, yes, I could have written a better finale.
And I am deeply insulted by Tom doing this. Along with the other questionable decisions.
Killing Tess being one of them. Worst use of a character death in the history of TV.

And if he does film a movie, he will have to wear the suit.

I was more pissed off at Lex's memory being erased than Tom not wearing the suit.

Well, yes, I got into that on the other topic, but yes, that was just one of many problems I had.

I mean, there were several ways they could have handled Lex better. And maybe, in the end, he would have to forget, but I don't know.

He couldn't techically be allowed to remember anyway.
Wouldn't work for Superman's secret identity be known to Lex.
This Lex would keep it a secret, I suppose, but as long as Oliver is still alive, or Chloe, or anyone willing to kill for Clark, he's going to be a dead man walking if he knows.

Otherwise it makes the character developments of Oliver and Chloe useless. :)

Also, they never accurately explained how Darkseid knew all these things about Clark, seemingly more so than Darkseid in the comics, or for that matter, even Lucifer...Neither one of the two are omniscient in any incarnation.

Even a stupid Darkseid = Satan thing doesn't work for that.
Let's also not forget at the time Hawkman was first cursed to reincarnate forever, Darkseid would still be in his teenage years, and with a full head of blue hair, and a nice guy.
Seriously, Darkseid was like Lex during the first few seasons of Smallville. :)

At first when I heard I was like I might would like to go see this but the more I think about it the more it seems to me is that Tom is saying these things to get under that fans skin because he knows that if Man Of Steel is a hit then there is no way WB/DC would have to Superman movies going at the same time...it wouldn't happen

if they were to make a movie, i think it should be a movie about Lex and what he does after his memory got erased.

saw this news myself earlier. But did we really need to make a whole new thread on this. since it was talked about first i believe in the welling thread. I definately would love to have seen a smallville film(tv film/dtv release). But it happening now isnt very likely thing. Since the sets been dismantled. Other productions moving into their old studio. Plus cast/crew moving on to other projects/taking some time off. Plus with wb/dc likely wanting to keep focus on features department with man of steel film.

i think it would be great to have a smallville movie

Would be great if there was. But it sucks its not to likely it will happen. Since they are more focus for feature film.

i can bet in a year or soo we may see a suerman type tv movie with welling and crew in it.

As great as it would be. If the feature film is a success. They will probably just keep focus on that. And superman on tv would be appearances in young justice/brave and the bold. To any future dtv films. Then there is still the on going copyright battle with the heirs which can throw a monkey wrench in things if the heirs win more copyright control. I still hope that wont be the case. Cause that would screw the character up so much. Ii hope the heirs decide to just settle already, get paid some big lump sum from wb/sc and then a smaller percentage yrly off the elements they currently have rights to that may be used in that given yr. So then wb/dc can continue to use the character fully.

the WB should do what they want and cut the family a share... end of problems.

some of us web would like to see a smallville movie sometime in the future.

It's good to know he wants to play the character again.

I need a Smallville movie, I already have a void from where the show use to be.

I do too fixxer but logically looking at it isn't that likely of a thing now. Since cast/crew are moving onto other things. Plus sets/props/costumes are destroyed or in storage. And like the bs excuse in no batman in sv cause they didn't want to have two conflicting live action takes going on same time. Probably would be same deal for superman.
