I'd prefer that they end SV on a high note and let Tom move on. But if there is enough $$$ to be made, who knows what people will choose to do. It's a tough business with no guarantees for anyone.

It really sounds like the new PS3 honchos want their reign to continue for more than one season. I wonder if they are hoping more for a SV 9th season, a GA series, or a JL series?

Is it really going to be a factor?

There's been talk of The CW shuttering at the end of this upcoming season if they don't get a big turnaround in viewership.

I think they're being overly optimistic. If they drag it on, hoping for another season, and the network goes under before they end it the right way I'd be super pissed.

I don't know what to think about this show anymore.

It no longer feels like a show about Clark's journey to Superman-dom but rather a full-fledged, watered-down, young Superman show lacking tights and flights. Now Clark's going to be working at the Planet, here come a gillion different DC guest stars, all the good cast members have left, and they're still trying to drag it out.

My hopes for seeing A Superman For All Seasons-type ending have all but vanished. I fear it'll get to the point where Welling won't want to come back and the show will end prematurely. Sigh. :(

I am afraid of that as well. I hope they don't get into a situation where they didn't plan for the end.

That would sure as hell be a slap in the face to the fans of the show after this many seasons. To not see it wrap up properly.

I hope it doesn't come to that, but the hints that they may not need Tom for Season 9 is a far worse idea.

If it goes on for another season without Tom, or him only working part time, the show about Superman's teenage years will have definitely jumped the shark.

Best to end it at the end of this year and maybe (if they still have Tom part time after this season) do a JLA or GA show instead and have him be a regular guest star, like give him one of those 7/13 contracts like Erica has, or John Glover or Laura had...

Save Tom for the big sweeps month blockbuster episodes, they'll be sure to get good ratings.

They should still give him tons of money. He deserves it if only for the fact that he's been working tirelessly for the past 7 years and is likely underpaid.

I don't know what he's making, but it's probably not as much as Charlie Sheen makes and it should be.

Yea for me this is what i think is going down. 1. the studio/network doesnt want to reveal that its the last season to not lose advertisers it really needs. 2. The producers know tom is only signed at this time for all of season 8 and they are likely planning to end the show. 3. They have plans to end the show this year but can leave things open/change things if tom and others are willing to sign. 4. They will end the show this year and then move on to a spin off be that green arrow, justice league, or kara.

Yeah, you might be right.... It's probably posturing dictated to them by the network.

Sad, but probably true.

Yea. its very logical if you look at it and coupled with the network is known to be in major finicial problems and could be folding(i hope not) number 1 is the likely reason. And then secondly yea the producers probably dont want the show to end so they dont have a stable job any more. But more then likely if smallville ends this year or goes for another year and if the network is still around they would probably be begging for them to have a spinoff. And more then likely if they do spin off they will likely get tom, allision, erica, aaron, and maybe michael to guest star or direct/write episodes for what ever spin off happens.

i m wonedreing what will they show in seseaon 9

seseaon 8 is sounding great and i give credit to team of smallville for that and but they should end this show with a good note which measn ending the show with seseaon 8

clark this seseaon seems proactive, working at DP , looking for dual identity and to me this seems like they are putting a closure to the show

Well put Webhead, anyway PS3 said at the Comic Con that if the show has to end, they know to do it and believe fans will be happy.

Basically, they will follow AlMiles plan, but with their own touch. This is from a K-Site interview:

"We've been involved with the show since season two," Slavkin says, "so much of the plot elements and the key plot elements, we've had something to do with."

"The Smallville fan means a lot to us," Slavkin continues, "so it would be irresponsible for us to say, 'okay, let's do a show where Superman's on heroin'... I say that, obviously, as a metaphor. What we want to do is honor what those guys did, but put or own spin. And I think when you all see the premiere this year, you'll see and you'll feel the four of us. The four of us wrote the script together, which is an unusual thing but we kind of wanted to put our imprint on it. It's our chance to mix things up yet we really want to honor our fans."

"There's a certain amount of 'What would Al and Miles do'?" Darren Swimmer reveals. "Part of it's built in, just from working with them for so many years. We know the different things that make Smallville unique as a TV show, and we adhere to that."

"We want to continue the legacy," Slavkin adds. "We don't want to create our new show. Our egos are less important than the Smallville vision."

Yea so we really should be *****ing and wondering if they are going for season 9 or a spin off yet. WE havent even seen one episode yet. Now as i and others have said if there is no reports of contracts being signed for the cast by episode 10-13 range then they have plently of time to properly wrap up the show and move on to other things.

^^ Exactly, maybe by December we would know if S8 is the end, PS3 have to launch the ending sequence of the last 10 episodes (AlMiles plan) if that's the case.

Yea by dec/jan if we have no word on resigning of the cast then its as i and others said plently of time to wrap the show and then have the network promote the hell out of the last half of the season.

I don't even see how a season 9 could be? This season looks like it was built up to end this show, with every thing that's supposed to happen idk, it just seems like a 9th season would be dragging it to far out I mean I LOVE Smallville but I'd rather see it end great then be dragged out an ruined next year, they would have to make him Superman to make it good and that's not really what the show is about so might as well just go crazy with cool stuff this year and give everyone the ending they have all been waiting for.

Yea we first need to see how first half of season 8 goes before we can judge if things are ready to close up shop and end or if a season 9 can happen.

Its more then likely going to be the last season, just since its way early and season hasnt aired yet there is many factors as i and others pointed out about the show ending this season or if more seasons will come.

With Stargate Atlantis cancelled and this article

From SyFy, and I've been wondering when the dollar's slide would start hitting Vancouver productions:

Mallozzi, the "Atlantis" show runner, has stated in his blog that five years may be the limit for franchise shows in the future. He cited the fact that the rising Canadian dollar versus the U.S. dollar is becoming an expensive way to make Vancouver-produced shows like those in the "Stargate" family.

the high costs might spell the end for smallville and we'll probably get an announcement that it's canceled in the future

Yea i was just reading about atlantis. I so thought it was going to go a few more years not as long as sg1 did with 10 seasons but atless another 1 or 2 seasons.

Tom Welling signed on for 8 seasons sooooo, so far if he doesn't sign on for more then maybe we'll get a justice League spin off!!!!! or some other solo character spin off.

After they didn't pick up the Aquaman show, I doubt it.

The main thing is we dont know how the network will be fairing, how well the show does this year and many other factor that come into play for more seasons or spin off.

Its more then likely it will be ending this year we just dont know at this time since no episodes have aired and we dont know where the network stands with the show yet.
