I doubt been able to catch bullets is a common reaction for humans, he probably saw the bullet coming so its not a surprise.

I actually think it would have been cooler if he blinks in slow motion just before the bulliet hits.

also he is alien but he thinks and feels like a human, for example I'm pretty sure if he were to put his arm in a meat grinder just before he does it I'm sure there would be that split second of fear/doubt but he would proceed as he knows he can't hurt him whereas a normal human would just draw away.
