Possible theme: "Pretending to be someone else"
-Peter doing his best to erase all links between him and being Spider-Man (so that no-one else close to him is hurt after Harry had quickly learnt Peter's identity and killed Gwen)
-Mary Jane being an actress {and the fact that she keeps her troubled past a secret about her relationship with her abusive father}
-Felicia Hardy and her alias as the Black Cat <— idea of bad luck? (Felicia is ashamed of what she did for Harry working for Oscorp and wants to make things right as Black Cat)
-Possibility of Chameleon pretending to be someone else or Mysterio, (<<ties in with MJ’s acting)
(Peter’s job at the Daily Bugle could play a significant part in TASM3, hence the intro scene with the camera)
INTRO SCENE
{inside Peter's dreams}
Uncle Ben giving young Peter a toy camera, Peter and Uncle Ben spending time together, Peter taking pics of Aunt May, Aunt May telling Peter to stop and Peter saying something along the lines of "but you're pretty Aunt May/you have a lovely smile Aunt May”. (<<not too cheesy I hope…?)
Fast forward to after TASM1, Gwen looking through some pics on Peter's camera, looking through pictures that Peter took of her and attempting to delete them and Peter rushing up to stop Gwen, telling her not to and that she looks beautiful. Gwen tells Peter to stay true to himself, that she loves him and that he shouldn't change any of that. Peter places his camera on the desk in his room, Gwen suggests that they go out for something to eat, Peter suggests "Joe’s Pizza”. Single shot of Peter’s camera left there on his messy desk while Peter and Gwen leave Peter’s bedroom. There are quick flashes of Spider-Man vs Goblin and Gwen's death.
Peter’s alarm goes off, roughly a year has passed since Gwen's death and we open with the same shot of Peter's camera on his desk (his camera looking very slightly worn out now) and Peter’s just getting up and ready to pack his final things for college (can be a very happy, upbeat scene yet touching as Peter says goodbye to Aunt May and thanks her for everything).
MJ knocks on Peter's/Aunt May's door, Peter opens it with MJ stood there (the first time we ever see her) saying "Let's face it, you just hit the jackpot, Tiger." MJ walks in to the house as if she's been a long time friend, Peter looks confused and asks who she is. She replies with a wink, telling him she's his chauffeur. MJ picks up one of Peter's boxes (she looks quite seductive as she does this and Peter notices).
Peter, temporarily distracted, hears another knock at the door which is still left wide open from MJ's arrival; Anna Watson is there at the door, saying hello and calling for Aunt May. Aunt May bustles into the hall to say hello to her old friend and introduces Peter to Anna, Anna mentions how Peter looks like his father. MJ is in the background, still loading up her car with Peter's boxes. Peter is stood there, watching Anna and May converse as MJ comes in and takes the box from Peter’s hands and takes it to the car.
May: “Peter! Why are you letting her do all the hard work?” *confused Peter*
Anna: “You know, he may look like his father but he is not the same man he was” May: “Anna, he is just a boy”… Peter rushes over to help MJ who is shoving Peter's boxes into the car, almost tearing them. Peter rushes over and complains that she's breaking his expensive science equipment, trying to rearrange the boxes so they fit correctly instead of MJ cramming them in. *Trying to maintain the light-hearted conversations/banter from TASM2 that Peter had with Gwen but now with MJ*
MJ drives Peter to uni (a favour she took up from her aunts and a chance for her to get to know Peter), they talk in the car, they mention Gwen, Peter gets slightly upset, doesn't want to talk about it. They also talk about their Aunts and Uncle Ben beforehand.
^^ The whole thing is still in note form from when I quickly jotted it all down after getting the idea.
The other ideas I had involved Peter and MJ bumping into Felicia on the street (Felicia is secretly watching Peter and following him around as she knows he's Spider-Man):
When Peter and MJ arrive at Peter’s university/accomodation, MJ is helping Peter unload and take their boxes in whilst Felicia *purposely* bumps into MJ holding a box on the street, a few of Peter’s books fall out of the box and Peter picks them up. Felicia (who’s face is never shown to the camera for the purpose of keeping her a secret and revealing her later on) quickly looks over her shoulder, apologises and quickly jogs off, wearing a black business dress, looking as though she’s in a rush somewhere. Peter’s spider senses go off (very lightly though, hinted by a “spider sense” sound played in the background) and Peter watches as she disappears around a corner/into a crowd of busy people. (this could mirror the scene where Peter bumps into Ratha at Oscorp in TASM1). MJ then proceeds with “come on, my arms are going to fall off, how many things do you have in here [in the box] anyway? Are you sure you even need all this?”. The camera pans upwards as the two are talking and Peter telling her how he needs these books and his science equipment etc., MJ calling him a nerd, the audio fading out and everything transitioning into the next scene.
Another idea:
MJ tells Peter that she’s a model/actress and says that she should have enough time to check in on their aunts at home every now and again whilst Peter is busy studying at university, Peter is grateful for that and tells her that he'll definitely visit home again and that bond between Peter and MJ is strengthened. Aunt May now means everything to Peter after losing both his Uncle Ben and Gwen.
MJ and Anna were supposed to be absent from Aunt May's life for a long time and had only just moved in next door to Aunt May and Peter as Peter was starting college.
An idea involving JJ and the Bugle:
Peter tells JJ at the Bugle that he quits. JJ isn’t too bothered and says that he’ll get Brock on the job instead to take photos of Spider-Man. Peter is surprised by JJ’s reaction and the fact that he’s not bothered that Peter quits. Peter asks if he can get a job doing something else at the Bugle. JJ laughs at him and tells him that he hasn’t got enough experience to do anything else, making fun of him. Peter explains that he’d still like a job as he needs the money to help pay for college. He asks if he can still be a photographer but not take any photos of Spider-Man. JJ laughs at him again and asks if he’s nuts. Peter explains that he just wants to be kept anonymous when taking pictures of Spider-Man, he doesn’t want his name to be included on the paper but still wants to take photos for the Bugle. JJ is weirded out and says that he’ll think about it, maybe put Peter’s name in very, very small print on the paper/website etc. (<< this links to the idea of Peter wanting to erase the links between him and being Spider-Man, to protect his own identity and to protect anyone else he knows due to the risk of him being Spider-Man).
And then an idea that expands on Felicia's role and Oscorp from TASM2: (<<even though I'm sure a lot of people are fed up of the whole Oscorp plot and would rather it just be quickly resolved)
Felicia is following Peter throughout the film at different points, Peter eventually confronts her as his spidey sense goes off and she reveals who she is and that she knows who Peter is and her father’s work. Peter is very tense here as she reveals that she knows he is Spider-Man and that Oscorp had footage of him (from following him around and the spider bite in TASM1?). Felicia says that she had deleted all of the evidence from the Special Projects folder but Peter’s name is still there so Oscorp know that there is something to do with Peter linked to their secret folder which is why Peter is being watched by Oscorp, Felicia is trying to protect him. Peter says that he doesn’t believe Felicia and thinks she is using him. Felicia tells him that it is only she and Harry who know that Peter is Spider-Man and that the only people who knew or were close to knowing were killed by Harry as he transformed into the Goblin and killed many Oscorp employees. Peter tells her to take him to Oscorp now to show him the folder so that he can try and delete his name himself but Felicia warns him that Oscorp have him under surveillance and that going in broad daylight would be too dangerous. ({possibly have Felicia fired from Oscorp so she can’t get in herself}).
Night time, Spidey waiting for Felicia. The camera shows him talking, maybe about girls or how he’s been struggling at university (we’re assuming this is Felicia that he’s talking to), the camera pulls away and he reveals he’s talking to Bruce the Gargoyle. “what do you think Bruce?” Black Cat appears next to Spidey, she makes fun of him and the fact that he was talking to the gargoyle statue and how he’s named it “Bruce”. Cat tells Spidey that he ought to do something about his costume, that it’s too vibrant, even at night, and that they might be seen sneaking into Oscorp.
Spidey: “maybe I should wear black like you?”
Cat: “Black, are you kidding? You’d look ridiculous.”
Spidey: “hey, it could work!”
Cat: “Who even made that thing you’re wearing? I’ve seen better vigilante suits in movies...”
Spidey: “Gwe—…” (Spidey’s tone lowers) “come on, does it really matter..?” (he shrugs off what he was about to say)
^^ A nod to the symbiote and answers the fact that Gwen actually made Peter’s costume for him, the same one from TASM2 ^^
Spidey and Cat breaking into Oscorp could be a very well done scene, playing out like the TDK Hong Kong scene or in a spy/mission impossible/james bond manner.
They get to the computers in Oscorp and Cat’s about to show Spidey the Special Projects folder. After showing he's a computer whizz, Peter successfully deletes his name from the folder and Cat compliments his tricks. Spider senses suddenly go off and Spidey and Cat forced into a cupboard together, could be a funny moment where Cat tells Spidey to get his hand off her leg, Spidey tells her that she mistook his hand for a broom brushing against her.
Chameleon is posing as Gwen in Oscorp, late at night. Spidey sees Gwen and comes out of hiding and reveals himself, surprised, shocked and happy to see Gwen. He almost starts crying as he asks Gwen how she's alive. Chameleon warns them that he'll call security, Peter confused, about to take his mask off to show Gwen but Cat comes out of the dark and prevents him, unaware that Peter knows Gwen or what he's doing. Chameleon recognises Cat, is about to shoot the both of them, she dodges, an Oscorp window is weakened, Chameleon shoots again. Spidey still trying to desperately convince Gwen but Cat pulls Spidey with him, running into the window, smashing it and using a whip as a rope to hang herself and Spidey safely on the side of the Oscorp building. Security alarm has been rung and Cat and Spidey need to get out of there. (<< This could be a very emotional and tense scene if Andrew Garfield can successfully show a very vulnerable and desperate Peter through his lines, even with his mask on as Spider-Man and unable to show facial expressions as a result, while Chameleon is ready to kill Cat and Spidey.)
Chameleon used Gwen's identity as it was easier (for this purpose) to use the identity of someone deceased to avoid anything leading back to Chameleon being caught... Idk, still got to work that one out <<
