Writer's Strike....

I dont have any sympathy for what's without a doubt one of the DUMBEST shows on television.

heylookatme.gif

Who cares about Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives stopped production today.:D

I don't care about the show, but with it gone before SPN it could help that show's numbers once it starts going up against repeats...

I tried to watch it when it first came on but never really understood the appeal.

Smallville is unique in that if the CW were to cancel it after, say, "Veritas" and Clark hadn't become Superman, you basically would be killing the entire purpose of the show, and thereby tick off a LOT of people.

True, but would they just do a whole new season, or just episodes to finish off 7?

If they wanted to off the show, they'd probably just give SV an order of five or so episodes to finish it off. But I just can't imagine them cancelling it at any point without allowing it to finish its story.

you do get into a bit of weird territory with Smallville, in that kreuk's and Rosenbaum's contracts are only for 7 seasons. Whether Season 7 is 15 or 22 episodes is most likely irrelevant. They could have this season end after Veritas, and then not be able to get the cast together to finish out the series properly next year of whenever the strike does end...

You know, I was wondering whether the contract was for a specific number of episodes or for the specific number of seasons...

emijayne had said someone had told her that Gough and Millar were hoping the strike would kill the rest of the season so they could use Kristin, Michael and Allison for the first part of an 8th...

I wasn't sure that was how it worked, so that seems like it might be just someone's speculation.

Do you have any idea how those contracts usually are written?

They'll be back, Craig seems to be sure of it.

Well, I have a feeling his source for a lot of this stuff is pretty close to the show so he might be right...

*shrug*

I can't see them having an 8th season without everyone there, they got a formula.

It doesn't always work but it's what has gotten them to 7 seasons. I would find it hard to believe they'd walk away from that formua for the 8th and possible last season.

I wonder how the season 7 dvd would be? Would it only have 15 episodes or would they add season 8 on to it as well? I wouldn't want to spend $36 on 15 episodes, though.

I was thinking the same thing, I don't think they'd charge the same amount for a 15 ep box set as they would a 22 ep box set, yet after the strike that could all change, but as of right now, it would probably cost a little less and I doubt they'd wait for S8 to complete before releasing the 15 episodes of S7 as tv shows in the past have proven that 13-15 episodes can technically be considered a full season. So my guess is we'll be seeing a 15 episode box set for Season 7 sometime around June/July.....maybe August.

I think, in keeping things consistent, they'd probably release it as a 4 or 5-disc set.

that would only put 3 episodes on each disc (or 4 eps on 3 discs, and 3 eps on 1 disc), I'm pretty sure S7 will more than likely be packaged with only 3 disc's having 5 episodes on each and will cost a little less than your standard 6 disc (4 eps a disc) box set. This makes more sense, at least to me it does

I'm pretty sure they have episode numbers in the contracts. Not just generally Season 7. So when they go out at 15 episodes the cast that originally hasn't signed for an 8th Season will have to return anyway for the rest for the episodes they didn't didn't shoot due to whatever circumstances. So AM, KK and MR would have to do the rest of the 7 episodes (or less depending on their contracts) next Season.

But if you guys really wanna know for sure I can ask a person or two that work on Smallville. And some that are affiliated with it. Afterall I wanna be as sure as possible before I let you know.

That would be great Jana if you could find out.

Steve DeKnight has made an entry in his blog about the strike and he posted this Youtube clip explaining the whole deal. Its pretty simple and straight forward.

Ok so. They have a Season contract and episode contract. Could be packed into one who cares.

Fact is. The episode part of the contract is mainly to 'force' (it's a pretty strong word sorry) the actors to stick to the amount they are commited to if something like the writers strike happened. So if Al/Miles want all those 3 back for the amounts left in their contract they have to return.

Now the Season part of it is...lets say they don't need one of the actors anymore. They could say that's it after this Season and they won't return no matter what's left of the episodes they are commited to.

So once this Season is over it pretty much depends on what TPTB want. If they want all 3 to return they will. If not they won't.

I was thinking of it being 4 each on the first 3 discs, 3 on the 4th disc, and maybe 1 more disc for bonus content.

This is from Ausiello:

There seems to be little doubt that the writers' strike will result in a shorter TV season, but just how short are we talking? Well, as you might've guessed, it varies from show to show. Those programs that are either highly efficient (Friday Night Lights) or have entered the season with a backlog of episodes (Men in Trees, Law & Order: SVU) will be in originals well into the new year. But series with tighter production schedules (i.e., nearly every half-hour comedy) will go dark almost immediately. Of course, figuring out how many episodes remain in your favorite shows' arsenals requires a lot of numbers crunching — and as I've come to learn, the only thing you Ausholes despise more than a Wednesday without AA is mathematics. With that in mind, I pulled together this incredibly handy (and 85 percent complete) cheat sheet. Keep in mind: The information below is subject to change, particularly if both sides get back to the bargaining table and resolve this frakkin' thing!

30 Rock: Ten episodes will be produced. Five episodes have aired, so there are five left.

Back to You: Nine episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are three left.

Bionic Woman: Roughly nine episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are three left.

Bones: Twelve episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are six left.

Boston Legal: Fifteen episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are nine left.

Brothers & Sisters: Twelve episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are six left.

Chuck: Thirteen episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are six left.

CSI: NY: Fourteen episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are seven left.

Desperate Housewives: Ten episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are four left.

Dirty Sexy Money: Eleven episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are five left.

Friday Night Lights: Fifteen episodes will be produced. The sixth episode airs tonight, Nov. 9, so there are nine left.

Gossip Girl: Thirteen episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are six left.

Grey's Anatomy: Eleven episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are four left.

Heroes: Eleven episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are four left.

House: Twelve episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are six left.

Jericho: Seven episodes will be produced. None have aired yet, so there are seven episodes left.

Law & Order: SVU: Fourteen episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are eight left.

Lost: Eight episodes will be produced. None have aired yet, so there are eight episodes left.

Medium: Nine episodes will be produced. None have aired yet, so there are nine episodes left.

Men in Trees: Nineteen episodes will be produced. The fifth episode airs tonight, Nov. 9, so there are 14 left.

Numbers: Twelve episodes will be produced. The seventh episodes airs tonight, Nov. 9, so there are five left.

One Tree Hill: Twelve episodes will be produced. None have aired yet, so there are twelve episodes left.

The Office: Twelve half-hour episodes will be produced. Eleven half-hour episodes have aired, so there is one half-hour episode left.

Prison Break: Thirteen episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are six left.

Private Practice: Ten or 11 episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are four or five left.

Pushing Daisies: Nine episodes will be produced. Five episodes have aired, so there are four left.

Reaper: Ten to 12 episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are three to five left.

Samantha Who?: Twelve episodes will be produced. Four episodes have aired, so there are eight left.

Scrubs: Twelve episodes will be produced. Three episodes have aired, so there are nine left.

Shark: Eleven episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are five left.

Smallville: Fifteen episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are eight left.

Supernatural: Ten to 12 episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are four to six left.

Ugly Betty: Twelve or 13 episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are five or six left.

• If your favorite show isn't included above, don't panic — it's not because I hate you. It's because I'm still trying to track down the info. As soon as I get it, I'll add it to the list.

So...3 left for Bionic Woman, 4 left for Heroes, 6 left for Chuck, and 8 left for Smallville.

After that, my fall TV season is effectively over. :csad:

I get the fifth season of Spooks on DVD in January, so that's new TV for me. ;)

There is a silver lining to this strike. This is a perfect time to rent or buy some season DVDs and catch up on shows you've missed out on. Much better than watching reality crap.
