I think people are looking at it the wrong way. Its not "nothing important was leaked, why should it matter". Its "despite being super early in development, with almost nothing to show yet, they *still* couldn't maintain confidentiality". That. . . isn't exactly promising, in terms of professional handling of a business relationship. Its not even like this was something where juicy information would necessarily be in the hands of a ton of people including outside contractors. If they can't even keep a tight ship when only the preliminary development is happening, how badly are they going to resemble a sieve once things get under way? Are they actively indifferent to maintaining confidentiality, or just that incompetent?
Basically, Nintendo was entirely within their rights to pull the plug at that early stage, especially if they had any other doubts about the viability of the project.
