WWII Thriller "Overlord" is Cloverfield 4

Cloverfield 4?

I'd love to see some historic reimagining as part of that series.

I'd be surprised if this ended up being part of the Cloververse, but at the moment I don't think it is.

I'm thinking that with God Particle and potentially this, they may not be as overt with the tiles like 10 Cloverfield Lane. It'll be hard, and dare I say goofy after a while.

Like retitling 'God Particle' to 'Cloverfield Particle' seems odd. 'Overlord' is such a simple yet bold title and they should just keep it IF it's a part of the series.

I'm positive it is.

I had read somewhere that there were two other Cloverfield movies in the making.
One is 'God Particle', the other, i bet is this one.

I got a little excited for a second.

God Particle's actual title is TBD at the moment, actually. Cloverfield Particle is just a nickname title the fans gave to the film.

Bad Robot and Paramount Pictures have today revealed the full Overlord cast

Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot have today officially revealed the full Overlord cast. The film, from director Julius Avery (Son of a Gun), is based on an original idea by The Hunger Games screenwriter Billy Ray and Bad Robot’s own J.J. Abrams.

Previously-announced Overlord cast members Jovan Adepo (The Leftovers) and Wyatt Russell (Everybody Wants Some!!) are being joined by Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones), Dominic Applewhite (The King’s Speech), Pilou Asbaek (Game of Thrones), Iain de Caestecker (Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD), John Magaro (The Big Short), Mathilde Ollivier (The Misfortunes of Francois Jane) and Bokeem Woodbine (Fargo).

Set on the eve of D-Day, a group of American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success. But as they approach their target, they begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation.

A Bad Robot production, Overlord is produced by J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber, and written by Billy Ray (Captain Phillips) and Mark L. Smith (The Revenant).

Overlord will begin shooting this May in the U.K.

Last year, Bad Robot Productions released both 10 Cloverfield Lane and Star Trek Beyond through Paramount Pictures. The former, directed by Dan Trachtenberg, stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman and John Gallagher Jr. and brought in more than $100 million at the worldwide box office. The latter, the third entry in the rebooted big screen Star Trek timeline, was directed by Justin Lin and pulled in more than $343 million worldwide.

HAHA,

anyway, I think it's smart of Bad Robot to create these types of films. Even if they belong to the Cloverfield IP, they're vaguely connected so in my eyes, I original genre films. Something that's been gaining traction in the past few years (especially in horror/thrillers).

Just green light good script with high concepts with a modest budget, and you'll make money, create new talent, and help out the industry. It's not as simple as it sounds, but too many in the industry are stubborn to move towards that direction, or want to ignore that's been changing in Hollywood (i.e. Netflix, TV market, etc.)

And I'm glad that people who have pull (Abrams) can manage that.

It feels like they're trying to Stephen King it up a little with the vague connections, but it works.

I like how the Cloverfield brand has created a small (but growing) dedicated fanbase. I love nerd.

It's sorta of an interesting concept.

But you can tell that Spectral has a low budge (Let's film in Hungry) and that the director came from the VFX world. And is a gamer.

So the movie sorta becomes a bore by the third act.

I actually didn't like that movie much.

It's sorta of an interesting concept.

I wasn't expecting much and everyone in the room watching it were thoroughly and pleasantly surprised.
Also, didn't realize how much I was in the mood for a good military scifi. So, there's that.

I like the cast and the concept is cool.

I liked the concept with Spectral but felt the execution was wrong.

It seemed like a video game plot. And I know from video games. :o

‘Cloverfield 4’ is a WWII Thriller Called ‘Overlord’ and It’s Already Done Filming

Who could have predicted that 2008’s hand-held monster movie Cloverfield would spawn a franchise we’d still be talking about 10 years later? 2016’s surprise sort-of-sequel 10 Cloverfield Lane provided our first look at the anthology-like nature of this loose franchise umbrella, and while we wait to see a trailer for God Particle (now possibly titled Cloverfield Station) and learn when and how we’re actually going to see that movie, we have confirmation that Cloverfield 4 not only exists, but that it’s already completed filming. The project is called Overlord, and you can read all we know about it below.

If the title Overlord sounds vaguely familiar to you, it’s because we wrote about it in March of last year. And while God Particle or Cloverfield Station or whatever the hell that ends up being called is reportedly set on a space station, Overlord is taking a trip back in time to World War II. Here’s the synopsis:

On the eve of D-Day, American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success. But as they approach their target, they begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. They find themselves fighting against supernatural forces, part of a Nazi experiment.

Overlord is directed by Julius Avery (Son of a Gun) and stars Wyatt Russell (22 Jump Street) and Jovan Adepo (Fences). About a year ago, we speculated that this could be the fourth entry in the slowly-expanding “Clover-verse,” and after ScreenRant theorized about that same thing this morning, we’ve received confirmation from our sources that yes, Overlord is indeed Cloverfield 4, and that the project has completed production.

It all lines up: God Particle started out as a separate project before word came out that it’s set in the Clover-verse, and Overlord followed the same path. They’re both produced by J.J. Abrams and directed by up-and-coming filmmakers (as were the original Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane), and all of the films so far have featured strong casts and high-concept science fiction stories.

Previous conversations with 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg have taught us the events of that movie don’t take place on the same exact timeline as the events of the original film, but there seem to be some aspects that do cross over into the separate films’ alternate timelines. The most important of these is Tagruato, the company that continues to appear in viral marketing materials for the third Cloverfield movie. As I speculated last year in this detailed breakdown, I’m guessing there won’t be much in the way of direct connections to the Clover-verse in Overlord, but I’d put money on Tagruato being involved in some capacity with the Nazis’ supernatural schemes.

God Particle/Cloverfield Station was scheduled to arrive in April 2018 (after multiple delays), but recent rumors indicate that Paramount may end up passing it on to Netflix. Box Office Mojo says Overlord will arrive in theaters on October 26, 2018. But this is Bad Robot we’re talking about, so I’m sure we haven’t seen the last mystery move for either of these films. As always, we’ll keep you in the loop when we hear something concrete.

Had a hunch that it would be the case, so I'm not too surprised.

Though if I'm not mistaken, we already have a thread for Overlord.

If Paramount or Bad Robot have a mid to low budget genre movie, assume it's getting the Cloverfield title slapped on.
