I see you gave it a 4. What's the reason for that score?

There was nothing in this movie that I would call bad, that includes the acting and story...it was just so forgettable. It wasn't any better than an average episode of the series. For a big screen movie they needed to bring better game than this. They really aspired for mediocrity and phoned this one in. The first movie was much better.
It's sad because I thought the show used to be so creative at times and was looking forward to this, but after this effort I think it's the last time we ever see Mulder and Sculley. What a disapointing way to go out.

I always felt that they waited too long between this one and the first movie. Alot of ppl nowdays have no idea what the Xfiles is all about.

I'll wait for dvd.

Hell...X-Philers that went to see the movie today (including me)...have no idea what the X-Files is about anymore.

It was good to see Mulder and Scully back together again, and the little tongue and cheek jokes that they included from the series.

But as far as some sort of mystery-sci-x-file- there was none of that in this movie.I think the cast from CSI probably would had a better story than what Chris Carter rushed to the screen.

We always said "Chris Carter was making it up (the x-files season 6-9) as the show went along."When we hit the "super soldiers" by season nine it was definately a WTF moment.

Fight The Future was better than I Want To Believe and felt that movie was a little weak but at least we had our aliens.....

This movie was way to talkative and at one point,as much as I didn't like the characters of Doggett and Reyes.I would have preferred them than Bisquit and non acting Amanda Peete.I swear that woman's acting is annoying..even when she played in that movie with Morgan Freeman and Ashley Judd, she was nerve racking in that.

I did get closure in the end and if Mulder and Scully never return at least there was some sort of closure for their characters.

I'm glad I don't invest much time or energy in shows anymore...not since The X-Files,Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Xena.

Have I spent so much time consumed with these shows.....

Heroes I'm wary and CSI is losing Grissom after ten episodes.
That only leaves me watching SVU Law and Order on Tuesdays and football.:cwink:

Heroes is really the first television drama I have gotten into since the X-files. And I didn't even pay attention to the last 2 seasons of X-files becuase the weight of the mythology drug it down so far (I'm cautious about Heroes going this route to). The show should have bailed long before it officially ended. Duchovney knew better, and jumped ship before then, but the show still limped on. Before that though, that show was such a part of every Sunday night for me.
It's disapointing to see the show try a come back and be so lackluster. When I think back on my experience in the 90's this show is one of those things that first comes to mind. Ah well, I'll just choose to remember it during it's good times....and there is always re-runs. :)

I haven't seen the film yet and I don't really plan to,untill it arrives on DVD at least. The big problem is that I kinda lost interest in the series. I used to be a HUGE fan of the show and I loved the first film, but how long has it been? 10 years? And for me the final seasons of the shows were alright, but it was clearly past it's prime. Plus,I have heard stories about Gillian Anderson being quite the ***** and she seems like being in another X-files film is something that she just did for a paycheck(and least from the clips I've seen anyway, but who knows?).

I think i would enjoy a Buffy or Angel movie more then this movie. It was ok but its seemed so boring compared to Eureka which i love and watch now.

NO SPOILERS
I just got back from seeing the film a little while ago, and I'm still trying to wrap my head around it. I've been a fan of the series since the first film came out, and would easily say that it's my favorite television show of all time.

Long story short, the film is absolutely NOT what I was expecting when I first heard they were making another film. Unlike Fight the Future, I Want to Believe is a VERY simple story that spends most of its time focusing on Mulder and Scully. There's no real complex mystery plot with twists, but a rather straightforward story that doesn't take long to unravel, really. The result is that we really get to see how Mulder and Scully have changed since the show ended.

I've seen people complain that the movie is simply a two hour episode that should've just aired on tv, but while I see where they're coming from, I don't necessarily agree. I felt that the struggles Mulder and Scully face and the changes they go through in this film surpass anything I remember seeing in a standard episode of the show. Without spoiling anything, I really had a strong feeling of sadness leaving the theater, and thinking about the film now. The themes definitely have weight to them.

I don't think it's the best film of the year, but I definitely enjoyed I Want to Believe for what it is.

Just got back from seeing it. While I did enjoy the thematic angle between Mulder and Scully (where they are, who they are, their beliefs, their relationship, and their banter btwn each other), the movie itself was a bore. I am a HUGE fan of the series...I lived and breathed it every Sunday night when the series was on, and still am a BIG fan of the first movie. THis movie however seemed like a joke. Very sub par for a big screen version of the X-Files. I think the story Chris Carter wanted to tell her should have been told on a direct to dvd or tv movie. I think this will end the series for good here, even though the stuff going on btwn Mulder and Scully was still pretty good. Aside from that though...nothing much happens. Its not worth seeing on the big screen. Wait for it on dvd. Hope they do make another one...maybe focusing back on the alien mythology to really wrap things up for good for these characters. It still seems Mulder needs some final adventure w.r.t to the alien mythology IMO.

Well, the running joke is the "shippers" got their movie.

Those were the fans that wanted Mulder and Scully A Love Story.

I didn't mind the inter-office fling,ya know it happens.

But when it gets in the way of what the show was really about (paranormal..blah..blah) and turns into a soap opera....ugh..

And even soap operas have beginnings and endings for their character.

Chris Carter should have gotten a writer from The Young and The Restless,at least their characters have little more bite than Mulder/Scully had in this....:hehe:

Sounds like a crap film. I'm still trying to figure out why they made it?

Please, don't jump on that bandwagon....

Since when was this a bandwagon? I thought Fox deserved this recognition after making the following crappy films:

Alien 3, Predator 2, AVP1, AVP2, Eragon, X-Men 3, FF1, FF2, Daredevil, Elektra, Planet of the Apes, LXG, and Jumper.

All of those films were either part of a franchise or meant to be the starting point of a new franchise. No other studio has destroyed this many franchises in such a short time frame.

Alien3 and Predator 2? seriously? you have those on your bad movies list? can we say nitpicker??

oh and saw it last night...

LOVED IT. saw it a second time right after...

Jesus, why couldn't they just wrap up the mythology aspect of the show with this movie and be done with it? I haven't seen it yet (probably catch it sometime next week), but it really disappoints me that they basically risked any true resolution of the show on this one movie in hopes that it would do well enough to justify a third film, instead of just wrapping up all the loose ends before moving on to a monster-of-the-week type movie. Now it's looking like this movie is going to bomb, and any hopes of another sequel are probably gone. Y'know, I find it hilarious that so many X-Files fans were saying the only way to do another movie is to not have it tied to the mythology of the show, yet the biggest complaint I've heard from fans and non-fans alike is that the movie didn't deal with aliens. I guess at least I can go into this movie with low expectations now.

They should do an X Files 3 with ID4:2 & there you go Alien Invasion combined with Mulder & Sculley & the cast of ID4 :wow:

Actually, we could say that you have an opinion and I have one. We could also say that most critics hated those 2 films because they were weak in comparison to their predecessors.

In other news boxofficemojo's friday estimates are in. I think it's safe to say their won't be another crappy X-files sequel.

This has been one pathetic summer for 20th century Fox films financially.

I'm personally of the belief that another sequel probably would have been better than this film. Chris Carter sucked at writing monster-of-the-week type episodes. The ones he excelled at were the mythology episodes. Since the sequel probably would have wrapped up the mythology aspect of the show I'd think it probably would have ended up being better than this movie. I'm bummed that it was apparently so disappointing, and if it's as bad as people are making it out to be than it deserves to bomb at the box office. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't want another sequel still, despite how bad this movie may be. At the least I would like to see a tv movie. Just something to wrap up the show.

Alien 3 was kinda...bad..Predator 2 was okay but Aliens 3 was bad....Alien Resurrection was better than 3...but neither one is better than Alien or Aliens.....:gray:

loved ALIEN3, thought A:R was decent, liked Pred2 more than 1... but ALIEN and ALIENS rule above all

I liked the first movie more. They should have just left it as a tv show.

Wow...looks like the first movie will make way more than this one...and it doesn't even look like it will make back it's budget domestically
