X-Men ‘97 X-Men ‘97 News and Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS!!!!)

And the thing is, this is EXACTLY what you should do when you have a revival show. You use the nostalgia to lure people in and get eyes to your product, but then you write like this to keep the story fresh and to keep it going.

This show is without a doubt the best X-Men adaptation ever to me.
I have never in my life complained about this show revival and asked for a new original show instead. Never! :o

MCU needs to take notes. This series is how you up the game.
I keep joking about Demayo since I don't know fully what he did. But seriously, if he cannot be rehired like Gunn, Marvel needs someone at his level at least. The guy raised the bar HIGH for the X-Men.

He, or someone like him, should be adapting and/or overseeing X-Men adaptations in every media.

This episode, man. That was the epitome of:

I'd take Death Gambit over no Gambit at all. He really did shine in this episode but it sucks if he had to die for them to finally use him beyond being Rogue's sidekick.
Imagine if that’s why they hyped up him and his power displays so much in this episode and killed him off. He comes back, and initially we’re all like “Hey, Gambit’s back!”, Only to then realize what’s actually going on, think back to this episode and how powerful he is, and then be like “Oh s**t, Gambit’s back. F**k.” :funny:
I caught this on my first watch, and I was like “The Watcher’s here, that’s cool“, and didn’t really think anything of it. I should’ve suspected something was going to go down, because he usually only appears when very significant events are about to happen.

Also, here’s a little background info from a Reddit post that DeMayo posted on his Twitter about the significance of this episode and how it came to be:

I also read he said that this episode was just a warm-up, and that the last three episodes of the season were really going to bring it. All I’ve got to say is, this episode was ruthless and traumatic as it was, and you’re saying things are going to get even worse?!? :wow:

Gambit and Magneto really stole this show in this latest episode. I don't think I've ever been more impressed with those two and seeing their powers on full display than in this episode but man that was crazy.

An amazing episode overall.

Wow didn’t c this coming…what a jaw dropping episode this was at least the last 10 minutes next weeks episode is gonna be heavy

I just finished it...jeez it felt so serious that was dark. It went darker than Invincible.

We had Scott get angry, never see that. I was thinking oh made it was Morph doing the interview for him...but nope he had to lash out.

Wolverine get teased by Jean, poor guy.

I knew the Genosha was too good to be true, their council already felt like it wasn't good but besides them. I had a feeling it was all setup, no way they would just let mutants have a city. That was just an easy way to round them up and destroy as many as possible.

Gmabit hurts he was my 2nd favorite, he went out with a bang. He is such a badass, with the whole Cable thing I don't know if they can try and Days of Future Past some things and save it. I feel like it would cheapen the episode some but damn I will want Gambit back.

I noticed Watcher, but was like oh just a cool add in. I expected something major to happen but not to the level they did.

Gambit had so little in the first 4 episodes and he has so much potential and story left. I’m less sad about Magneto because he had his moments. Gambit had one moment and it was to die. That never sits right with me.

I heartily agree. :(

Stunned by this episode. Really incredible stuff.

With the appearance of Cable, I smell some upcoming time travel shenanigans that might save Remy.

So cool to see modern stories adapted too, with Madelyn essentially taking Emma’s place as the one having a psychic affair with Scott. Really love what the show did with the Madelyn/Jean dynamic; and I don’t mind Emma being pushed aside. Thought she was perfectly utilized as a few quips on the Genosha council.

I don't think Magneto is dead. Leech's power is suppressing other mutants power. Magneto probably covered them in a bunch of metal and Leech suppressed his power so the sentinel would think he was dead since it just goes off of power detection and it was detecting an omega level threat

I have this theory that I'll post under spoiler tag because I could swear this was announced in their first SDCC panel, but apparently I'm imagining things.

I could swear they confirmed Val is Mystique. And since day 1 I watch thinking "is it her?". And as far as I remember she didn't interact with Logan so he could smell her. I was starting to think she is actually not Raven, but her reaction to Erik mentioning Rogue in Genosha gave me a little vibe again.

Also, that Happy Nation music moment, kind of gave me a Greys Anatomy vibe, in a good way. Like in an early season when they're having some sort of ball and Izzie's patient dies.

I hope they have plenty of other music moments like this. It totally fits the X-Men IMO.

The biggest thing is the tone. You keep it relatively consistent with the original since nostalgia is the whole point, but you can recognize the audience is likely many of the same people who watched it as a kid so you can make it more mature as well since they're now adults.

That being said, I would love using this show as a way to introduce kids to the X-Men. I'm not sure they're ready for this episode. Although I'd like to think I would have been resilient if I had seen it.

Same. I never said anything about not wanting to be stuck in the 90s again. :o

This team has seriously earned their flowers. I'm happy to admit to being wrong and enjoying this alongside everyone else.

Now give me "six seasons and a movie".

The beautiful thing about this season is that you can only go here once a show has some continuity under its belt. If this were the first season of a new show, you couldn't start doing what they're doing--thus their decision to revive TAS is all the more justified.
