As long as Gambit comes back I don't care.I also read a rumor that they are re-writing most of Season 2 now.
Did not expect this to get so messy. Anyhow now I get why they fired him if all this is true.
Maybe doing porn is his future...
He does have an only fans.
Lol, Reddit. It's possibly the no 1 platform I regret going near on social media. If they don't like something they just downvote it.I was on the X-Men subreddit when the episodes dropped and made comments about how uncomfortable the Magneto in a speedo scenes were and got downvoted to hell. It was a weird fetish and obvious that DeMayo was obsessed with portraying Magneto a certain way.
Now this comes out and Reddit is all about analyzing the “sexier” scenes from the show and talking about how DeMayo used the show to live out some hyper sexualized fantasy.
I’m glad that season 2 is being rewritten. I’d rather not be subjected to a fetishized version of my favourite characters from the mind of a narcissist.

Fair, but it’s more the context of the underwear on Magneto. These panels are from the beach, where the attire is appropriate. Magneto was powerless, hung on an X-Men cross, and stripped of his clothes while his people died. That is a much different context than he was hanging out at the beach. It’s disturbing. And it’s gross. While I can see how looking at the DeMayo allegations now make these things seem like a red flag in hindsight, let's not pretend the X-Men comics don't have precedence for these kinds of things. The Jim Lee comics that heavily inspired the 90s series were full of cheesecake, women wearing skimpy outfits, and even the men in tiny shorts, cutoff jean shorts, and tight swimsuits. For years, fans accused Chris Claremont of using the X-Men comics to express his BDSM fetish.
Also even the 1990s series showed the male characters in barely there underwear or swimsuits from time to time.

That’s not to say that these comics are okay or that there aren’t major issues with over sexualization of female characters. But that doesn’t mean current creators should be trying to “even it out” by subjecting male characters to the same stuff.
Combine that with the weird relationship Magneto and Rogue had/have, DeMayo’s writing in this season really, to me, was uncomfortable and unnecessary. Genosha’s destruction was tragic enough, without needing to hyper sexualize Magneto’s captivity.
With DeMayo’s history, yeah I would argue that he is obsessed with Magneto and fetishizes his nakedness/torture. Intent is important.I mean Wolverine was stripped down to his undies and forced to undergo a painful torturous adamantium bonding process. It was traumatic and rendered him into little more than a feral beast. They experimented on his memories. He was made into a human guinea pig. It was inspired by the Weapon X comic storyline where Barry Windsor Smith infamously drew Wolverine basically naked and that caused problems for Marvel at the time.
In the Dark Phoenix Saga, Jean Grey was mentally violated and brainwashed by the Hellfire Club. She was also forced to wear basically fetish wear lingerie. All this happened in the comics and the 1990s series.
Bastion is also a bad guy. Bad guys don't care about the dignity of the people they are torturing.
Now was Beau DeMayo putting Magneto in a situation because he wanted Magneto to be stripped practically naked and in a state of torture because he finds that sexy and that's his kink? No idea, but like is it gross when this happened in the 1990s show? Is Chris Claremont a sexual deviant? Are the Lewalds? I've seen no evidence to suggest that.
Perhaps, but I don't think creators should be prohibited from depicting bad guys doing bad things or humiliating the protagonists or doing something that's abhorrent even if it's something we find disturbing or unsettling. With DeMayo’s history, yeah I would argue that he is obsessed with Magneto and fetishizes his nakedness/torture. And again, that’s not to say that the others aren’t problematic. And I’ve had my issues with their portrayals as well. But this is DeMayo and this is now.
It’s not about censorship. It’s about DeMayo and his character as a person. I hated the depiction of Magneto and I hated the relationship between Mags and Rogue. Now those portrayals make more sense.Perhaps, but I don't think creators should be prohibited from depicting bad guys doing bad things or humiliating the protagonists or doing something that's abhorrent even if it's something we find disturbing or unsettling.
Sometimes I think fans and critics confuse depiction and endorsement as the same thing. Now again, not sure if this was some fetish kink being shown by DeMayo. It could be the case. But like if Chris Claremont is working through his fetish kink with the X-Men comics, I don't have a problem with that on its own unless Claremont is harassing other people and giving them unwanted attention or doing something inappropriate.
Hopefully, this makes the "Bring DeMayo Back" brigade shut up now. This makes so much more sense of why he went out of his way to retcon Rogueneto into the show. He is incapable of understanding how predatory and wildly inappropriate their relationship is/was because he has issues with sexual boundaries himself.

It’s the same as if a WWII movie was made by a Nazi vs a historian. Intent. The intent in ‘97 was fulfilling some narcissistic *******’s sexual kink, and I feel like my uncomfortableness is justified. So that’s where we’re at. Obviously there are aspects of the show that I loved. But Magneto’s portrayal really bothered me. Now I know why.
Yes it was.Wasn't this Rogue and Magneto relationship part of the comics before?
It was but from what I remember it wasn't well received back then either.Wasn't this Rogue and Magneto relationship part of the comics before?
It didn't endear her to me, her dropping Remy just like that for a guy who could touch her. How deep was her love? Not very.It was but from what I remember it wasn't well received back then either.
