X-Men ‘97 X-Men ‘97 News and Discussion Thread (TAG SPOILERS!!!!)

It didn't endear her to me, her dropping Remy just like that for a guy who could touch her. How deep was her love? Not very.

I mean she didn't drop Remy actually. She contemplated it. Also, it wasn't like she and Gambit were an official couple or anything.

I never liked DeMayo. Sometimes you just get a vibe from a person, and when more things come out, and I get a sense of "that explains why".

I'm glad the truth has been revealed. The Twitter feed of DeMayo was hard to read for starters.

As far as rewriting Season 2, we saw finished animation footage at D23 last weekend. That means Season 2 must be in some level of post-production. So how much can they really re-write? Animation like this is not the same as a live-action production.

It was but from what I remember it wasn't well received back then either.
They had a physical relationship more recently in Age of X. So not 90s era, but still happened before this show got made.

Doesn't make him any less of a creep for shoehorning it into the series when it wasn't there before.

It really reeked to me of #menwritingwomen. Whenever Rogue is in the hands of a Rogueneto-lover, I find that she is written less like an actual character and more like a prize for Magneto. I don't like it.

My guess is Cable leading X-Force and Havok leading X-Factor in the present day while the X-Men are off on their time travel shenagians.
That should be fun. Hopefully the pacing is a lot better this season, or it will feel like a jumbled mess.

While I can see how looking at the DeMayo allegations now make these things seem like a red flag in hindsight, let's not pretend the X-Men comics don't have precedence for these kinds of things. The Jim Lee comics that heavily inspired the 90s series were full of cheesecake, women wearing skimpy outfits, and even the men in tiny shorts, cutoff jean shorts, and tight swimsuits. For years, fans accused Chris Claremont of using the X-Men comics to express his BDSM fetish.

Also even the 1990s series showed the male characters in barely there underwear or swimsuits from time to time.

Ah yes the obligatory beach episode. :o

I'm not sure I agree on that. Romantic drama has been a part of the comics for decades.
While I am not a fan of love triangles in general (I think that they are almost always a lazy plot device for cheap drama), you can certainly write one without objectifying anyone.

Two teams isn't exactly shocking given how Blue/Gold were staples in the 90s and how season 1 ended. Also the team is already huge with Forge, Bishop, Morph, Magneto and Nightcrawler in the roster.

If they are forming different teams on present day, my prediction is a line up similar to the 80s Storm led team.

Storm, Logan, Morph, Kitty, Colossus, Psylocke and Bobby.

X-Factor: Forge, Alex, Lorna, Rahne, Madrox and Strong Guy.

X-Force: Cable, Sunspot, Cannonball, Rictor...

There's Jubilee and Emma there too.

A lot of wishful thinking here, but I don't care.

Seriously, if they give us Bobby, Morph, Kitty, Rictor, Betsy, Rachel, plus Raven and Irene... depending on how they'd be portrayed, my gay ass would be very happy.

I mean X-Factor already existed in this series before X-Men '97.

My wishlist for season 2 isn't long. I just want these characters to appear
-Iceman
-Colossus
-Psylocke
-Polaris (which is confirmed)
-Angel

And appear in the intro with their name on. :xmen:
