X-Men: Destiny Thread - Part 1

I rented this game and finished it in a night. *SIGH*

The main thing I will say about this game is, developers really, really REALLY need to lost the focus on the idea of 'choice' in video games... Sure, it works well for Mass Effect or inFamous, but that's because the CORE GAMEPLAY is so strong that gamers actually WANT to keep playing. Who the hell would want to button mash their generic character through this game twice, just to see some extra, awful, dialogue?

Seriously, how about Devs focus on the important meat of the game before they start showing off the fancy garnishes.

I think Denis Dyack needs to shutup. He seems to be great at promoting these games to EPIC proportions only for them to flop.

The fans have wanted a sequel to Eternal Darkness for years and instead we get this turd. The 3D Avatar movie tie-in game had better story development and replay value, and that's no joke.

Yikes! I started this game today and it really is as bad as people said. The graphics are awful. PS2 level. The controls dont feel good and controlling the character feels clunky. You can feel a sense of weight to them yet when climbing things, they are much faster and jump super high. WTH? No melee attacks? The combat seems super simplistic and I hope it improves. At this point I dont even feel compelled to play. I'll force myself to get through it at least once bc I read its super short but not impressed so far

You know i almost wouldn't have minded this game if it had co-op, like the X-Men Legends games... Almost.

It's crazy short. I started it at 11p.m. one night and was finished by 4:30 a.m. just choring through the story.

A friend was going to loan this to me, but now I'm regretting that. Sounds pretty bad to play through, even if it's a rental or free.

Are there any pros to this game?

You know a game is bad when you fall asleep multiple times at the same section. That was me yesterday during mission 2. I kept dying bc I kept zoning out.

Picked this up last weeks gamefly deal for 10 bucks used.

This game is terrible. I was all excited about seeing a new upcoming X-Men game. No auto attacks, If you were not playing as the girl the other costumes or outfits did not look right on either of the two guys. Having Iceman's defensive gene was cool but you could never shut off his ice form. So I never used it at all. It had two of my favorite mutants in it. So give it props for that and whoever did the voice acting for Magneto. Good job!

Based on what i saw and read i knew there was no point in wasting any time on this. Altho, now, i almost want to play it just to see how truly bad it is.

The idea behind the game is strong. What could be cooler than using your own X-man or woman?? The game definitely had potential but it failed on pretty much every level. And it would have been nice to have more of a 'choice' factor integrated into the game or even a real character creation feature but again...poop.

But that's the thing.... You couldn't create your own anything... You get the option to be a generic cardboard cut out and 'pretend' you're different X-Men characters, who look nothing like the originals and can't do anything they can do.

It was like X-Men Legends except single player, even more dumbed down combat and only the one lame character.

Shoulda just gone with X-Men Legends III.

And what was with those Gamecube-era graphics?

It was a rushed brand game. Same with the Spider-Man Edge of Time.

Yeah, that was my point. If they'd had a 'choice' factor played out in the game and if they'd given players the opportunity to be able to create their own mutant character...the game may have faired better.

Which is sad, cause they both had good ideas. If given a longer development cycle the potential for those ideas to be fully fleshed out could have made the games worthy of some recognition.

It had a good idea...but the execution...

...I was hoping for a stronger focus on choosing between X-Men and Brotherhood...or who you decided to aid...there were no lasting or changing repercussions for the character...no growth or development for the new the characters...

...the way it was hyped up...i was expecting the KOTOR of the X-Men games (in terms of joining X-Men/Brotherhood...kinda like the light side/dark side in KOTOR)......

back to the new characters...weren't they supposed to debut in the comics? Did that ever happen? Its been a while since I actually followed the books.

It never happened and considering how awful the game is, its a good thing that didnt happen

I dunno, maybe Hulk could eat them in Avengers vs X-Men?
