Anyone else getting that vibe from this show?

The general concept of the show seems OK, but a lot of the plot synopsis and exerpts I've seen, seem to me that it's a little too much like a watered down version of X-Men with less interesting super powers....Obviously, these people develop their powers all of a sudden vs. being born that way...

Can network TV really embrace a full-fledged super hero show?

I give it this show at least a Week & the most a Month before Marvel sues NBC like they sued WB for Mutant X & took it off the air for the many X-Men like stuff. Born with Powers, some use it for good to help others & others will obviously use it for bad etc

don't really see ANY resemblance between the two. The 4400 or Rising Stars, on the other hand, might be a closer comparison.

unless, of course, the show goes down a road where the people with powers become heavily prejudiced and they go from there. but it would STILL be more like The 4400 than X-Men...

guess what? that's not something that's exclusive to X-Men, or even Marvel for that matter. it's too broad a concept.

Exactly - like how people see Shakespeare in EVERY situation, like the Lion King and such.

I think the Lion King was created to ressemble Hamlet.

I think Shakespear is like untouchable as far as stories go and its been in the writing world for so long that the concepts in the stories have become common basis for every story ever and you cant have a copyright dispute over certain things that have been in writing since like forever. Of course this post could make no sense what so ever. Do what you want with it.

I didnt say it completely ripped off X-Men, I just said the concept seems pretty similar. Especailly with that film, dropping next weekend.

    - The show is about a handfull of people getting powers, not a whole sub-species of Homo Sapiens.
    - It is implied that they are granted these powers to "save mankind".
    - All mutants develop their abilities at puberty. Obviously these are people of different ages that simply wake up one day with superpowers, which makes me seriously doubt the cause is genetic in nature. Ergo, they're not mutants.

It's pretty much dead on Hamlet with lions.

Exactly - and the central theme might be something quite different. With X-Men, the theme was racism and prejudice, when considering how humanity dealt with mutants.

Here, it seems like it's going to be a random rare phenomenon, and not the creation of a new evolution of mankind. I'm actually looking forward to it - I just hope it doesn't crib too closely off of "The 4400". And I hope it lasts longer than "Surface".

Speaking of X-Men similarities. If this show proves to be successful. I hope it will have an impact on X-Men being made into a live action tv show. What do you think?

    I doubt it.

Mutant X had what, four seasons? Hasn't does X-Men any favours.
Besides, Heroes is going for a completely different vibe then X-Men - I doubt many people will be making the comparison.

Well Mutant X was just some x-men spinoff that lasted for 3 seasons. Now that the film trilogy has come to an end x-men has a better shot at becoming a tv series than it did before.

Of course Heroes will have a different vibe but, from what I've heard about it so far we may see similar powers.

Yes, but the show looks like it will be dealing with the drama of people dealing with their powers, instead of them just leaping into bright coloured spandex and saving a truckload of Hell's Angels from a rabid Girl Scout troupe.

If I remember correctly, Avi Arad was one of the producers and creators of Mutant X...

but I think I read also that they Fox sued WB because they had rights to an X-men show... somethign along those lines.

I get the X-Men vibe too....I just hope this show isn't LOST meets X-MEN (although, I love both). I want some ORIGINALITY.

The trailer looks cool. Looks like some cool characters.

How is it anything like LOST?

When the NBC people said it would be like LOST, I think that they meant it would be a break out drama that changes the way dramas are done.

    How is it like LOST?

    No Island?
    No Monster?
    No other people?

I doubt we are going to have flashbacks.

Where are the similarites that people think the two shows have?

I was wondering that myself. must be the ominous and mysterious mood they're going with. that's all I can see, and it's still quite a reach, cause ominous and mysterious is not exclusive to Lost...

I think it's just instinct that whenever something groundbreaking comes out - which was Lost - a great deal of other shows get unfairly compared to it, even though they have very little in commmon.

this show resembles more 4400 than anything else...

a bunch of people discovering they have some kind of powers after an eclipse...

i should have stayed out the night Halley's Comet passed years ago...damn...

Yeah, you lost out on the chance to become mysteriously impregnated and watch your baby grow 20 years in two days.
