Loeb/McGuinness are on Cable lol.
Argh.

If they can make it fun like their Superman/Batman was, I might be in - or even recapture some of the feel of his Cable work and X-Force work from the past. If it's more of Loeb's of-late stupidity, then I'll be saving myself that money.

As long as the X-Men don't set up in LA I'm cool. A non-godlike powered Nate Grey is lame. Also he needs a shirt and a pair of shoes as his not the mutant shaman anymore

why, what are nate's powers now??

Laaaame

I'd like to see Nate completely demolecularize Hope

why, what are nate's powers now??
really weak TP/TK powers and unlike Cable he doesn't have years of fighting skills and large guns which means his kind of useless.

Characters like Hellion and Psylocke could beat him now

Which, again I hear, Hope will be training him. (nate)

Meh its supposed to be the X-Men people with superpowers that make the world hate and fear them not X-Men people with no/little powers with some fighting skills.

seriously "ooh he can pick up my litter and sense when I'm getting a *****! So scary, Oh noes!!""

I'm interested in getting back into X-Men and this reboot of sorts seems like decent place to start. Now with the DC reboot and a limited income, I probably can't go all out and get all of the books, but I'm really interested in the #1s, since they're #1s. Can anyone give me a scoop of what's been going on in the world of X-Men lately. I read every X-Book when Morrison was writing New X-Men and I kept that up with the post-Morrison reload and quickly started dropping titles. I read all of Astonishing and I read the Vulcan arc of Brubaker's Uncanny and the Supernovas arc on Carey's X-Men. I guess you could say I stopped reading right before Messiah Complex.

So can anyone help an old fan out?

1. After Professor X seemingly died during Messiah Complex, the X-Men broke up.
2. Professor X was alive, though.
3. Cyclops reassembled the X-Men and moved the team to San Francisco. A majority of the mutant population followed the X-Men to San Francisco, and Cyclops became the leader of mutantkind.
4. Shifts in the government forced the X-Men to leave the United States. They found the remains of Magneto's old Asteroid M on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, surfaced it, and moved most of mutantkind to the new island they named Utopia.
5. Namor moved the Atlanteans underneath the X-Men's island after making an alliance with Cyclops & Emma.
6. The baby from Messiah Complex traveled in the future with Cable for a while and came back to the present as a 17 year old girl named Hope Summers. She has the power to mimic other mutants' powers and (unconsciously) create new mutants.
7. Further shifts in the US government allowed the X-Men back into the country. Cyclops was awarded by the president for saving the citizens of San Francisco from a disaster, and the X-Men became official superheroes (who are still sometimes hated).
8. For a while, Cyclops had a secret team of assassins called X-Force. He disbanded the team, but Wolverine secretly reformed it without Cyclops' knowledge.
9. Beast left the X-Men after discovering X-Force. Nightcrawler is dead. Cable is dead.
10. Magneto lives with the X-Men now.

I haven't been keeping up with Schism. Someone else handle that.

Oh wow thats a great synopsis. I started to try and get into it and wouldnt even know where to go bc so much has happened since.

That doesn't sound too awful reading it all at once without detail. I think I got as far as the solicits for Messiah Complex. I just wasn't prepared to have to get multiple books I didn't already get just to get a full story. I was planning on picking it back up afterwards, but I never got around to it. I do think I made the right decision though because from what I can tell teams became meaningless and all the main books focused on like 10 main X-Men. That's not something I'm especially interested in. So this return of teams seemingly suits my tastes.

i wana start reading x men comics, i read uncanny # 1 -50 does anyone know where i should start or whats the best x men comics series to read

Well the good thing is that X-men continuity has been thrown out of the window. You can usually follow one book and not have to worry about the others bc they arent as intertwined as they once were in the 90s. It makes it easier to follow individual titles but it can be a mess trying to figuere out where stuff fits chronologically. Things might be different after Schism, so you will at least have a good spot to jump in on. Its hard to really advise you now as things will be changing in 2 months and we arent exactly sure how so yet

Since I haven't been following Schism at all and I've damn near stopped readings comics entirely these last few months...

What exactly are the X-Men in-fighting about?

Well, if you read Uncanny 1-50, you haven't even come close to reading the good stuff. Start with Giant Size X-Men #1 and then go to #94 and keep going. That's where Claremont's fantastic run starts and it goes for 17 years ending with 279. Almost every classic X-Men story was written under Claremont's pen. It's incredible if you think about it.

Besides that, I'm a huge fan of New Mutants, a title that Claremont wrote concurrently in the 80s. It featured Moonstar, Karma, Wolfsbane, Cannonball, Sunspot and later Cyper, Warlok, Magma, and Magik. I think this run goes down as the best X-Men run and the best team. But that's just my opinion. They were just released in full color trade paperbacks, which is really cool. Even though I have a lot of the issues in floppy format and all of them on my harddrive, I'll probably end up getting them.

Another one of my favorites is Grant Morrison's New X-Men. It's a very unique take, but at the same time, it stays true to the roots of the X-Men and takes the concept and takes it to its truest form. It's certainly not for everyone, but I definitely recommend getting the first arc E Is For Extinction. Probably my favorite X-Men story of all time.

Oh you should read it...its really good. Basically the main conflcit occurred in Shcism #3, which coincided with Gen Hope 10. A group of X-men along with some X-kids went to some Mutant History Museum, where they knew the Kid Hellfire Club would be attacking. The kids were able to take the X-men out. Idie was still inside the building hiding during the attack. The Cuckoos had her connected to Scott (who was travelling there via jetpack) and Logan (who was running through traffic) via telepathy and Idie asked if she should try to stop the HFC. Logan said she should run bc there was a bomb inside with people and that she's just a kid. He said he'd make it there in time. Scott said there wasnt anytime and told Idie to do what she felt she had to do. So she got up and used her powers to torch the place and killed a dozen people, and the bomb went off. There were no civilian casualties so Scott was okay with what she did and Logan was upset that he put her in a position to make that choice, to become a killer. So there in lies the conflict. She's like what, 12? Scott has no problem turning children into killers and Logan objects

So what is everyone's opinion about the two main X-Writers Jason Aaron and Kieron Gillen. Are the worth the 3.99 price tag?
