X-Men - Part 1

Gischler, you son of a *****. You've created a storyline with a set selection of characters, and written excellent dialogue between them.

I take back anything bad I said about you.

Haha, just my luck that I'd drop X-Men right when Gischler finally gets his s*** together. :funny:

In other news, I picked up this week's To Serve and Protect issue. Yes, it was because there's a story with Thor in it. Yes, I was suitably ashamed. But I still did it. :thor:

I had no problems with the first arc. I still have to read the new issue but from what I thumbed through it looked decent, more setup than anything else. Bachalo just did SHED in ASM and it looked great, he should be good for this arc.

The issue starts off doing the usual "every character you can fit in a single page" thing we've all grown to hate, but that's really just a montage of the X-Men acting like superheroes in San Francisco. Scott sends Storm, Gambit, Wolverine, and Emma to Manhattan to investigate weird happenings in the sewers, and the issue focuses on those four characters. If this issue wasn't drawn by Bachalo, I'd have loved it.

My problem with it was that it made no sense whatsoever. There were plot holes you could fit an elephant through, and I'm one of those especially oblivious readers who doesn't even notice plot holes most of the time.

Wow, I'd gladly take the random X-Man on every other page thing over that stable cast. :o

I'm just happy to have a nice, small group of characters for this arc.

Also, the Gambit fans can finally shut the hell up. Us Iceman fans can finally corner the market on "lack of exposure" whining.

I will b**** until Dr. Cecelia Reyes is a permanent fixture around the X-campus again. :argh:

I just read Uncanny X-Men and god damn was that issue terrible.

I agree. I'm going with the hopes that the X-Men franchise isn't something that's going to be fixed overnight. I'm going to hold out longer when Gillen fully takes over this book. But if you want to read something truly fantastic, pick up Uncanny X-Force #4. I just gave it a gleaming review in B/T.

Indeed. I certainly got my Gambit fix you know fixed for once. :D

Im glad someone is enjoying X-men bc that title does absolutely nothing for me

Me either. None of the X-Men comics do at this point except X-Factor. I'm reading Generation Hope too, but I could honestly take or leave that one. I figure I'll give Uncanny another try when Gillen takes over completely, but I suspect I won't be able to really get into X-Men comics again until they've kicked this militaristic *****ebag trip they've been on since M-Day.

I'm really hoping I don't turn against this arc like I did the vampire one.

"OMG, Gischler totally gets Logan and Peter!"
An issue or two later, I was complaining about him doing the same window dressing cameos and Cyclops' ridiculous back-up plans that Fraction does all the time.

I was complaining that the plot didn't make any f***ing sense by then. Because it didn't.

Cyclops: Wolverine, you and Colossus go scout out this new vampire threat!
(Wolverine and Colossus fight exactly one group of vampires.)
Cyclops: Damn it! Clearly, we have no other recourse than to resurrect Dracula, the absolute worst vampire of all, and... uh, basically just kind of... hope?... he'll agree to be on our side.
Other X-Men: Damn it! Cyclops is totally right for he is our leader and we don't question him, ever, no matter how stupid his plans appear to sound on the surface.
Blade: ... Seriously? You motherf***ers are crazy! This plan has to study hard and eat its Wheaties to work its way up to the title of "worst plan ever!"
Cyclops: lulz, don't worry about him, guys, he's not a mutant. Pay no heed to the non-mutant over there. Again, that guy? Non-mutant.
Blade: But--
Cyclops: No one cares, non-mutie. We got Draculas to resurrect over here.

I hope you didn't read the last issue in that arc.

Dracula: Haha! I have taken over my son's massive army of vampires!
Blade: We have to kill Dracula before he mobilizes his army!
Cyclops: No, we have to let him go.
Blade: Why?
(Cyclops shoots Blade)
Cyclops: BECAUSE!

I did read that. Honestly, if not for the total deus ex machina prep-time Cyclops pulls out of his ass toward the end, Gischler's first X-Men arc could basically just be marketed as "How to Completely Strategically Mismanage a Crisis Situation" by Scott Summers, Esq.

But it's entertaining

My fav X-comic now is Uncanny X-Force, followed by X-Men, followed by I don't like Uncanny X-Men. But that's just me.

X-Factor is my favorite X-comic, but it's one of Marvel's worst selling ongoings. It's sad, really.

That's just the way it is with most good comics. Nobodies interested......f**kin' Philistines. :o

I don't think X-Factor's been consistently good since Messiah Complex. It sucked after that until the baby issue. Then it got pretty good but away from the purpose of the book for the whole Summers Rebellion plot. Then the Doom arc was kinda okay, as was the Second Coming arc. The Asgard arc sucked monkey balls and the recent Darwin issue was barely mediocre.

I love the characters but I think it sells in accordance with it's quality.

That's just my opinion though.
