X-Men - Part 6

I like seeing all these different takes on characters. I thought it was fine but can understand people not liking it for the reasons given above.

So I binge read more comics that I missed since I stop reading like five to four years ago. I've finished All New X-Men Volume 1, Amazing X-Men, Uncanny X-Men Vol. 3, X-Men vol. 4 and Wolverine and the X-Men vol. 2 like all this month!

All New X-Men is okay, I liked that they really focused on the original five and the occasional meet-ups with either Wolverine's group or Cyclops' group and the other heroes of the Marvel Universe. Professor K is something I want to see in a X-Men movie (so Fox make that happen). The cross-overs however, I just didn't even care to like follow the other issues/one-shots. I'm just not a fan of cross-overs from the comics. Like Battle of the Atom sounds interesting with the future version looking so odd but eh, I didn't really care about it especially already knowing that O5 won't be sent back to the past. Like for every series that I binge read, there were two issues for Battle of the Atom and eh, I didn't care at all.

Amazing X-Men is probably the one that I liked the most, it got a nice roster, I liked Firestar, like I heard her name before but this was actually the first time I read comics with her being on it. World War Wendigo was pretty cool. Seeing Azazel was cool and the Cyttarok story-arc was okay too. I don't know why they ended this so early.

Uncanny X-Men vol. 3 is probably my least favorite. I'm not just a fan of Cyclops, Magik, Emma Frost and Magneto and while the new mutants are okay, I don't really get excited reading on what they do here. Like Goldballs has odd powers and I don't want to see that guy for like every issue. Tempus is okay but gosh the white hair at the front is so freaking Rogue, like sometimes I don't get why artists don't make the newer characters look different from the older characters. I also wish it got more X-Men like not just students. And the whole run just didn't seem fun to me and the constant appearance of Shield and Maria Hill, eh, they were like in every issue. Though I liked seeing Dazzler and I liked the Last Testament issues.

X-Men vol. 4 is like a dream roster for me, I'm all about X-Women and I just loved the roster, it really featured an all female team from the 1st issue up to the last. Then the villains like Lady Deathstrike, Enchantress, Typhoid Mary, I liked seeing them here. Medusa also appeared for like 2 pages. Psylocke in a X-Men team is always a big plus for me. Even though one story arc felt so Sisterhood 2.0 (from Uncanny X-Men) and I liked the Sisterhood run here more. I just wish Rogue was in the entire run, like binge reading all these titles, I missed Rogue the most (Gambit and Polaris too) and I don't want to read Uncanny Avengers just to see her and IMO, she belongs to the X-Men. The story-arc that I didn't like the most was the one with Deathbird and I didn't like the art. But over-all, this was decent.

Wolverine and the X-Men vol. 2 is really short though the first six issues really felt like a chore to read. I'm now down to its last 4 issues. Its like Uncanny X-Men but with Wolverine and Storm with their students. I'm not really into Quentin Quire and Genesis, and they really came off as the future Phoenix and Apocalypse 2.0 to me I'm just not a fan of "2.0" type characters.

I'm really catching up to the comics but I've been doing it backwards from the current 3 then to the Marvel Now titles but my next move is to finally binge read
-Uncanny Vol. 1's Breaking Point up to Uncanny Vol. 2
-I'm re-reading Age of X of Legacy then finish Legacy to its final issue (275). I don't think I'll read Legion's Legacy asap but maybe one day. I'll definitely read Legacy 300 but I already know the premise of it.
-Astonishing's Monstrous (I didn't get to finish this, the artwork is terrible) up to its final issue
-I'm rereading X-Men vol. 3 story-arc with Spider-Man, then continue to the issues that I didn't read
-Then the last series that I would binge read from start to finish is Wolverine and the X-Men vol. 1

The latest movie upset me, I feel like I have this huge dark cloud above my head when I think of the future of the movies series and binge reading X-Men comics, helped me a lot like I'm getting all my X-Men doses with these comic-books and I just love it even the stories are not so great, I'm still seeing X-Men characters that I like and I get to see them work as a team.

Uncanny Avengers is worth the read in my opinion. It has Avengers in the title but reads more like an X-Men book picking up plot points from Avengers vs. X-Men and Remender's Uncanny X-Force.

I havent touched the recent one but I didnt like Rememender's book. His UA was boring and I didnt like him picking up the UXF threads. That stuff dragged and had pacing issues

He had a tendency to do that. I get the feeling that moving him to different books wasn't exactly his choice. And adapted some of his plans to fit.

Man, I know people like to criticize Claremont post-return to the books in 2000 (I think it was) but I'm looking through some old trades and forgot how much I enjoyed the early issues of his X-Treme X-Men run. Particularly the Invasion arc. I loved that story. I think I liked it better than what either Morrison or Casey were doing at the time. And that was the height of Larocca's art for me as well.

Slipstream was mediocre, but I don't understand people's disdain for Lifeguard. She was a great character with interesting powers and became even more interesting after learning that she was half Shi'ar royalty. I was really interested in where that story was going. Sadly, it went nowhere. I still wish Brubaker had used her in his Rise & Fall of the Shi'ar Empire story. She'd have been a perfect fit for that story. Instead he created a brand new character... Darwin... who did the exact same thing that she could.

Okay....so I saw X-Men Apocalypse ...and I gotta say, ... I was impressed. I know this is not the place to really discuss the movie here...but I just want to say that while I am aware of most of the characters of the xverse that I have been drawn to from the pages of comics...I gotta say, Psylocke was...one of the standouts...omg...and Jean Grey...well,
gotta hand it cause that Phoenix Firebird was...the shizzle to my nizzle. lols.
Spot on...Magneto, another standout...oh yeah. Those 3 are my top faves. :) and the Costumes!!! OMG!!! yeah. Especially Psylocke's

Dude, that's a huge spoiler. There's a movie forum to discuss the film. People coming into the comic thread, havent necesarily seen it yet

Man, I SO wish Old Man Logan wasn't actually on the X-Men.

I think the problem for me is that I am absolutely LOVING his solo by Lemure. It's dark and really interesting as a character piece following Millar's original Old Man Logan storyline. But knowing that between the scenes/arcs of his solo, he's also running around in an X-Men title that feels like a giant cartoon thanks to Ramos' art... it's just a little too shocking to the system. I wish they'd have kept Old Man Logan separate from the X-Men themselves and just focus on his own adventures in this world and perhaps down the line have him meet up with the X-Men. It'd sure mean more than the forced, quick meet up and joining that we got in Extraordinary X-Men.

Just a gripe. Plus, Extraordinary X-Men just kinda sucks in my opinion. Lemure's a good writer, but that series isn't doing it for me. And Ramos on pencils just kills it... in a bad way.

Ramos is just awful.

Please get OML away from Jean.

Started reading the Old Man Logan series. It's not bad.

I wasn't crazy about the original run due to several things but this is interesting.

Edit: So does OML not have the adamantium? He mentions during the Hulk fight his ribs are broken but his claws look metal.

Good question. I never really thought about that.

I loved the original series and thought the Secret War mini was decent (mostly due to Sorrentino's art). This series feels similar to that, and I like how it's directly dealing with what he's gone through in the original story.

The problem I have is that I feel his just jumping in with the X-Men right from the get go with how cynical he is about this past life just doesn't feel right. I feel like he needed to go through his own journey before being able to join the X-Men. Perhaps a few meetings along the way to ease him in. And maybe then have him on a team that doesn't feel like a Saturday Morning Cartoon (do they still have those?). The tone of Extraordinary doesn't fit anything Old Man Logan's done before or is doing in his current run. It just doesn't fit.

I feel like maybe that was why they rushed to get him on the team. This O5 thing is likely temporary and they know it (no matter how hard they're trying to drag it out) so they wanted to push a young Jean and an old Wolverine together while they could. I get the idea and don't mind it really, but it could have waited.

If anything, Ramos should be doing All-new, his art style fits teens better than very-serious-adult-x-men

then switch Bagley over to Extraordinary and boom, huge improvement

Question guys: Are still X-Men divided? Storm's team and Psylocke's team are together in Limbo/Savage Land. So far, I haven't seen All New X-Men with the other X-Men except for Genesis' birthday party.

What happened to JG school/The Weapon x Facility after Uncanny 600? Did they explain?

I think the whole Jean Grey school was moved to Limbo, and the Xavier School seemingly closed up shop after Uncanny 600 (though it may have something to do with the 8 month gap and whatever Cyclops did)

and the O4+3 (O5 - Jean + Idie, Evan, and Laura) are on a "road trip" so they're not based out of the school
Although I haven't read ANXM, so that may have changed by now

WTF? How does a school for youngsters literally go to hell?

LOL, It's the only place safe from the terrigen mists, and being that Magik controls the place its safe enough I guess

I don't think the X-men are divided anymore. Seems like mutants are pretty united about how horrible Cyclops apparently is.

The 8 month gap is really annoying. What could Cyclops have done? It's been built up to a huge degree, so it better be good. And we've been reading books about Storm, Iceman, and Beast crying about Cyclops while he actually got stuff done for years.

Storm, Iceman and Beast whining about Cyclops is partly what drove me away from X-books.

Thanks BoredGuy for the answers! This 8-months gap is really making things a bit confusing. Wish they would clarify things more.

I just finished X-Men Legacy vol. 1 and I just started reading Vol. 2 with Legion as the new lead. I wonder where is Frenzy right now and I liked Mimic, I wish he stayed with the X-Men. After Legacy vol. 2, Astonishing is the only remaining title that I will catch up to so yay! :ilv:

I liked a lot about Legacy, particularly the Xavier stuff and I loved Age of X.

Despite the 8 month gap, Cyclops being "dead", and a franchise relaunch, Storm is still complaining about Cyclops. I want to like Storm since she was so great in the 80s and 90s, but cmon!

So Marvel announced another wave of Marvel Now branding. The X-men need a lot of work. Hopefully this means at least a shuffling of artists and a couple new titles.

Vol 2 with Legion is so good! I love him as the lead and the stories are great. Hate the end of it though. :csad:

So I finished Legacy Vol. II, some good parts there, but the ending eh... I wish I got better resolution. I don't know if the kid and Chamber were really killed? Were they killed. and I just wish it had better artwork especially the earlier issues. Like there were great moments there, I liked Blindfold's backstory, Legion Vs Cyclops, the twist with Agent Brand and the Alien dude but as someone who isn't so fond of Legion and Blindfold (weird and weirder lol), I just didn't enjoy it that much. The psychology part isn't just my cup of tea. I'm really curious if the FX show is taking some inspiration from it.

But oh God its nothing compare to the next title that I'm reading! X-treme X-Men Vol. II is so bad! The cartoonish artwork and the writing are just so blah. The Concept is interesting but the execution is just very poor. I'm down to itslast 4 issues.

And oh yeah Age of X was cool! But I totally hated the swarm story-arc.... God, how did they come from MarvelGirl/Rogue team-up to that? And I wish the story-arc for Weapon Omega was 1 to 2 issues longer. The Frenzy centric issue was cool too!

And by the way Wolverine & the X-Men Vol. 1 >>> Uncanny X-Men Vol. 3. At first it was choir to read but it got better, and I prefer the students of JG than Goldballs and company.

WatX actually got worse over time. It was refreshing and a good book but once AvX hit, it lost all steam and became a boring mess

I remember loving it at the beginning but eventually dropped it.
