X-Men - Part 8

MacKay's X-Men #1 isn't a bad issue though it isn't exactly ambitious either. Being released twice monthly means we're going to get a lot of content. Hope it won't become a case of quantity over quality.

Releasing two issues per month, could be a good thing as they could really develop the team by the end of 12 months (24 issues), if there's no roster change.

I feel like the Synch-X-23-Shadowkat-Ms.Marvel-Rasputin team era was so short-lived that I'm not sure if they even lasted for 12 issues. I wish they kept Synch for Uncanny or Adjectiveless. But he's not even around for the other books.

Except you are talking about $10 a month now with double shipping.

Yes, but it also means the turnaround for writers and artists is much shorter. Don't get me wrong, I would love longer runs, but I'm not sure twice monthly is the answer. Hell, I already saw people asking if the QR code bonus panel was a late edition they couldn't get ready in time for printing.

That too.

Well buying comics is expensive, obviously. There is a cheaper alternative
- which is subscribing to Marvel Unlimited if I'm not mistaken. Or wait for a TPB which could cost more or less but wouldn't require monthly shipping price.

Anyway, I'm only gonna read Adjectiveless/Uncanny, so I don't mind reading two new issues per month from those two, especially these titles are like a 20 minute read per issue.

Yea but if the issues are being decompressed, is it actually worth paying that extra money every month?

X-men was interesting. Feels a tad too familar set up to Bendis' X run so far, but I will give it a bit more. The thing I like the most is the set up of relations with the town near by.

Loved Phoenix. I can't wait to see more.

Heir to Apocalypse remains a fun series.

It's sad that Phoenix has kind of been overshadowed by the artist being caught tracing half the book

NYX is here and NGL this is the most excited I've been for an X-Book in years. Was a huge fan of the Academy X/NXM kiddo in the DeFillips/Weir & Kyle/Yost eras. So having a book with those characters (Plus Kamala) trying to figure out adulthood in a post Krakoa MU is interesting.

Plus Hellion was always mah boi; so i'm intrigued how well his heel turn as "The Krakoan" is going to go

I enjoyed NYX the most out of the #1s so far as well. This definitely is the right book for Kamala and the rest of the cast is great. Sophie was a good BFF. Laura seems a lot more interesting than she was in huge chunks of the Krakoan era. Prodigy's speech was the highlight of the book. And I'm obviously happy to see our reptilian rainbow bartender again. I think this one's going to be a lot of fun.

This whole QR code thing seems dumb but apparently Breevort is doubling down on it.
The QR codes make no sense. They save no space at all. It's been a wasted page just to 'hide' one more page. Such a random gimmick.

NYX was fun. Reminded me of some of the early Ms Marvel books I read. Kind of a pity they are going to switch perspectives per issue.

I am curious what the Psylocke book will be like. I don't necessarily trust Brevoort.

Nevermind, Alyssa Wong is writing Psylocke. I'm all in. And glad Greycrow is going to show up.

I prefer the ASOIAF character POV switch, partially because im more of a NXM Fan than Ms. Marvel Fan.

Can somebody really explain to me the deal with Psylocke? I've been reading for decades and still don't really get it (never read the seige perilous stuff)

Why did Betsy's personality completely change when the body swap happened? And why did it go back when they got unswapped?
And why does Kwannon now have Betsy's powers?

Near as I can tell, there was some intermingling between the two when the swap happened. And those changes to powers. Essentially the swap enhanced Kwannon's original empathic abilities to full on telepathy, along with the psychic knife.

I do know when the switch happened, there was some intermingling of personalities and memories, which caused the original personality shift. When Betsy returned them to their original bodies, I didn't exactly see a direct personality change, or any more when a character is written by a new writer.

Idk Betsy just seems much more British again now, whereas she never really read that way during the Psylocke years

Heir to Apocalypse was a fun series. It was kind of obvious who the heir was going to be from the final four. I did enjoy Apocalypse essentially given each of the final four an aspect of his horsemen. I am kind of sad they gave the heir the moniker Revelation, as I really loved how Apocalypse was taking that name at the end of Red. Will be interest to see where Revelation pops up in the new books.

X-force was interesting. Will be interesting to see where it goes, but Betsy and Rachel will keep me around for a while.

Uncanny was interesting. Not fully sold on Simone's Rogue yet. After FoX Uncanny Avengers, not really buying Simone's Rogue being full of self doubt like that. But, otherwise, a fine set up for the series.

Rogue always goes through the self-doubt->confident badass->self-doubt cycle, its pretty tired

I still remember reading Legacy back in the day, being all excited that she was self-assured and in control of her powers, and then that got tossed aside almost immediately

If I were rank the Main "X" books right now it would go as follows:

1. NYX -
2. Uncanny
3. Tie between X-Force and X-Men
4. X-Factor
5. Phoenix

It will be interesting come Dec when Logan, Daken and Laura all have solo books again

I've never liked Daken, but started to warm up to him a little during Krakoa
Could be fun to see him as a ghost rider
Wonder if this pushes him back to the dark side
