X-Men - Part 8

Don't forget the retcon they did to bring her back for X-Factor. The real Jean Grey was still at the bottom of Jamaica Bay, and the Phoenix creates a duplicate that essentially believes itself to be Jean until it kills itself in Dark Phoenix Saga. The point being, the plot of GSX, that the Phoenix somehow separates itself from its own created body to join with Dark Legion is funny.

The retcon has been recontextualized. Jean's original body was healing in Jamaica Bay but that was the real Jean Grey in DPS. No sure how much you've kept up with her but Marvel has been reaffirming that Jean and Phoenix are one being and thats been a major plot point of her character arc since her death and resurrection at the last Hellfire Gala.

In her solo, they revisited DPS and she acknowledged and fully accepts as her with no excuses or qualifiers. In the past she'd always mention a disclaimer of it not really being her but no anymore. The GSX issue was written with that current context. Jean fully understands who she is as Phoenix now whereas she was confused and unaware of alot of that back when she returned in X-actor

Age of Revelation announcement dropping this week. I hope it's more inspiring than it looks.

Weapon X-Men, Psylocke and Hellverine seem to be canceled. Solicitations for Laura, Magik and Deadpool/Wolverine also hinting at endings.

The three flagship titles, Wolverine and Storm seem to be staying. Storm is confirmed until issue #15 for now, but is then likely renewed for a third Volume at least.

sigh....

I do think it begs the question of if Psylocke is cancelled or not. Because I do see replacements for Phoenix, Storm, Laura Kinney: Wolverine in there.

Expatriate X-Men
Unbreakable X-Men
The Last Wolverine
X-Vengers
Iron Frost
Cloak or Dagger
SinisterS Six
LongshotS
Omega KidS
Laura Kinney: Sabretooth

These titles are giving April Fool's Day!

I mean the original AoA titiles were:
Amazing X-men
Astonishing X-men
X-Calibre
Gambit and the X-ternals
Factor X
Generation Next
X-Man
Weapon X

So yeah, very much keeping a trend. Sucks too, I would love a new Uncanny Spider-man book.

They gave up Krakoa for this?

Brevoort was always going to kill Krakoa. And frankly, I think whatever initial plans they had for Doug, evolved when someone remembered it was the anniversary of AoA.

Do yall think Wolverine's wearing a mask, or was his face blown off and unable to heal for some reason??

I know but it doesn't make it any less disappointing :(

Murewa Ayodele originally said Storm #14 and #15 coincide with this event, but that might just be Rogue Storm issues now. Guessing quite a few minis and oneshots in here. The amount of books honestly just made me sigh, though.

I will admit, I am kind of curious to see where Doug's story goes. The set up issue has me interested.

First batches of creative teams for the books are out. The obvious continuations are confirmed. Just leaves Cloak or Dagger and Omega Kids to get confirmed if those are Magik and Psylocke continuations. (Omega Kids does sound like something Wong would pitch)

Some surprise returns which is getting me tempted at some of the other books. Longshots and Sinister's Six has me interested.

It looks better than Age of X-Man, at least. Plus, it seems to be 3 issues per book like Sins of Sinister, so won't completely overstay its welcome.

I've mostly been reading digital since I'm running out of space, but it's odd how Raid on Graymalkin / X-Manhunt issues are collected.
If we take UX as an example:
  • Vol 1 collects: FCBD: Blood Hunt / X-Men, 10 pages of X-Men #35, UX #1-6
  • Vol 2 collects: UX #9-10, #12-16
So issues #7, #8 and #11 would be missing if you only grab UX. Similarly, Storm goes #1-5 and then #7-12. That honestly makes me want to stick with digital even more.
This appears to have been changed. Raid on Graymalkin is still collected separately, but the second volumes are now said to collect the following:
  • UX Vol 2: Issue #9-16
  • Storm Vol 2: Issue 6-12
Huge improvement IMO. Not including Storm #6 would've been insane with how much that ties into later stories. If Thunder Wars lives up to the hype, I might go for it. (Despite my previous comments about running out of space.)
