Comics X-Men/Spider-Man #1

Well, Marvel'll hafta see how the books sell next week and cross-reference it with this week's. Basically, if MD doesn't sell as well, then people bought it 'cause it was XMSM 3 or 'cause they think a mistake issue like that will rise in value. Hopefully, people buy the actual XMSM 3 when it comes out.

Yeah, I got the one with the mixed cover for value later on down the road...

:yay:

I think people cared more about a new Ben story after a decade.

One thing, though, is I think the X-Men line-up is a li'l screwy. Fer one thing I think at the time Ben was Spidey Wolvie was in his regressed mode and Storm was in her blue costume.

After reading #2, as well as reading the books at the time they came out, it felt like it fit right in...

Gage, who co-wrote A:TI with Marvel Continuity ****e Dan Slott, looks like a promising new writer who can use continuity as a tool rather than a hinderance...

:word: :word: :word:

Continuity is only a hinderance to crappy writers who can ONLY do things they way they WANT to do them. A true writer adapts.

Why is it that all the big name writers; ie, JMS, Ellis, Bendis... can't use continuity like Slott and Gage and Kirkman...

Yet writers like JMS, Ellis & Bendis get all the accolades...

:csad:

Is it really a decade since we last saw Ben?
What about in the Human Torch/Spider-Man mini??

No, they just made a clone joke in that one. No actual Ben appearance.

JMS gets accolades based on his entire portfolio. Ellis 'cause he's a crazy mofo and people eat up that dark crap. Bendis...I haven't quite figgered out Bendis yet.

I personally find that all three aforementioned writers get props for their own creations, but have a harder time writing with an established character with rich histories...

JMS' Spidey wasn't too bad. It's when he started throwin' in all the mystical crap it went to pot.

X-Men/Spidey #3 is soon to come out, and after the great issue that was #2, i really can't wait.

Show offs! >:O
I'm guessing you haven't read the last page or so. :oldrazz:

X-Men Manifest Destiny was released this week. But instead of the actual issue in it, it had issue 3 of X-Men/Spider-Man

Finally got my hands on it, and man was i impressed.

I really didn't think it could be better then what #2 was, but it was just as strong of an issue and really has me excited for the conclusion.

I really am holding this mini-series up there as one those rare treasures that everyone should give a look at. Plus, the way Sinister has been handled is great, while crossing in and out different Spidey foes at the same time, plus they actually used just enough Carnage on this one to be both well written but not over done.

Can't wait for #4.

They should've let the kids be Pete's, that way, when the re-boot came, they could've undone that, as it stands, they are still out there somewhere....

I didn't think you would see it that way. You seem to be pretty stuck on continuity, and JMS was terrible with that from his first issue. Midtown High was never a public school in Manhattan, but a sprawling suburban school in Queens. And Peter reminiscing about it included flashbacks to MJ, Gwen and Harry, none of which went to highschool with him. I agree his first arc wasn't bad, but there was a lot of story conceits. A villain should sell himself (see Venom, Doc Ock, Green Goblin), not have the protagonist excitedly claim he's "never been hit that hard before!" Although the JRJr artwork was, imo, his best ever in that particular arc.

And yes, I agree about the mystical crap. For a Spider-Man writer, JMS made a great Dr Strange writer. :whatever: I'm glad he's away from Spidey.

On Wednsday, I picked up issue #3, and I must say, it was awesome. It was ver fun and exciting, so I can't wait for the conclusion.

Hence why I said it wasn't TOO bad. Yeah, there were errors and I ain't a big fan of JRjr, but it was enjoyable.

I dunno, I was a HUGE fan of the way JMS portrayed Peter Parker, i feel like none of the newer writers have been able to capture the essence of Peter Parker the way JMS did. Mystical stuff aside, you can't read the first few arcs of his run and say that JMS didnt impeccably capture Peter Parker/Spider-man's character. He gave him an excellent mixture of maturity and comedy whereas the more recent writers seem to portray him as simply a jokester. I dunno just my two cents.
