X3 Books next year (Spoiler on the movie)!

I'll probably buy the Ulimate Guide even though it won't have much on X3 in it.

If you only have the one from 2000 (like I had) then you might as well get the third edition. It has a total of 16 new pages, however they don't bother to update previous pages. I'm not sure if it would be worth getting if you have the second edition though.

are you sure they dont update the old pages so many things have happened since the x2 one...that really sucks...i have the x2 one i dont want to buy the same thing with 16 more pages!

I have the first Ultimate Guide and it looks like I'll probably pass on this new one.

Until DK updates with about 30 new character pages, I just don't feel the need to plop down another $25.

I don't know that much about the comic side, but I have compared the majority of pages, and all they've done is added pages at the end. If you have the X2 version, then I think there is less than 16 new pages because it's 16 more pages than the first edition, not the second.

If someone can give me an example of a major character change, I'll look and see if they've added it to their profile.

It doesnt say 'new' home...just home. I think she realises that the X-Mansion is where her home is, after she decides against the cure...

Electrix what's up with your avvy ??

Yeah, Roma's doesn't have the fading-to-black thingy.

Heres a compilation of all the upcoming X3 related books......

Film and Television/Newmarket Pictorial Moviebooks

The only book on the creation of the blockbuster movie—a fabulous visual companion to the final chapter in the X-Men motion picture trilogy, exploding May 26th from 20th Century Fox.

Synopsis

This lavishly illustrated filmbook boasts more than 360 illustrations, including striking movie stills and unique set designs, concept drawings, costume sketches, and storyboards, appearing exclusively in this edition. Beginning with an introduction by director Brett Ratner, text includes commentary about the production of the movie, along with an original history of the X-Men by Peter Sanderson, the comics historian and author of X-Men: The Ultimate Guide, illustrated with archival Marvel comic-book art.

In X-Men: The Last Stand, a "cure" for mutancy threatens to alter the course of history. For the first time, mutants have a choice: retain their uniqueness, though it isolates and alienates them, or give up their powers and become human. The opposing viewpoints of mutant leaders Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), who preaches tolerance, and Magneto (Ian McKellen), who believes in the survival of the fittest, are put to the ultimate test—triggering the war to end all wars. The old cast returns, including Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Halle Berry as Storm, along with newcomers Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Vinnie Jones as Juggernaut, and Ben Foster as Angel.

ABOUT THIS BOOK
TAKE A STAND.

The world has acquired a lethal new weapon against X-gene mutants, whose superhuman powers separate them–for better, for worse, forever–from ordinary mortals. Now, for the first time, mutants have a choice: retain their godlike abilities, though their powers may isolate and alienate them, or surrender them and become human. The mutant antibody is called a cure, but its invention may trigger a struggle that destroys every living soul on Earth.

As Magneto declares all-out war against humanity and its dreaded cure, the U.S. president mobilizes the military. But it is Charles Xavier and the X-Men who truly must brace for the ultimate battle, for they alone are powerful enough to determine the outcome.

Lessons of the past are useless in the coming life-and-death conflict, as new players–mutants possessing unprecedented, unearthly skills– take center stage. With so many joining forces with Magneto’s evil Brotherhood, the X-Men will face their ultimate test against an enemy whose forces far outnumber their own.

Now, as the world trembles, the Phoenix slowly rises. . .

X-MEN The Characters and Their Universe by Michael Mallory

September 28, 2006

xmen8vo.jpg

They are more than simply humans...they possess something extra...they are the X-Men. Among the most popular superhero characters of our time, Marvel Comics' "X-Men" are also among the most distinctive teams to emerge from the plethora of costumed crime fighters. "Sworn to protect a world that hates and fears them," the mutant X-Men face not only against diabolically evil villains, but also the bigotry and prejudice of those for whom they fight. X-Men: The Characters and Their Universe tells the story of this unique band of comic book heroes from their creation in 1963 by the dream team of writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, through their late 1970s re-emergence as a platform for socially and politically relevant storytelling, and up to the present as one of the globe's hottest franchises. This colorful, lavishly-illustrated volume also traces how the characters have been adapted into the media of television and film, including the groundbreaking 1992 animated series and the blockbuster feature films.
Through exclusive interviews with many of the key creators and contributors to the X-Men Universe from all media—among them Stan Lee, Chris Claremont and John Romita from the comics, and Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Sir Ian McKellen, Bryan Singer and Brett Ratner from the world of film—X-Men: The Characters and Their Universe tells the complete story of how these strange and often unlikely heroes have transcended the illustrated page to become part of our collective consciousness.

For fans of the comic books, this volume also provides a unique one-source catalogue of every major character that appeared from 1963 to the present, including all the various teamings of characters, the significant comic book series, the various character relationships and evolutions, and the classic storylines that have all woven together over the decades to create the dazzlingly complex and fascinating tapestry of world of mutants. X-Men: The Characters and Their Universe is a book that no fan of Marvel Comics, of super heroics, of animation and action adventure filmmaking, even of popular culture of the late 20th century itself, will want to be without
.
I have spent a good part of the year in the company of mutants. No, I'm not getting into politics, I was researching and writing a new book titled X-Men: The Characters and Their Universe, which will be published by Hugh Lauter Levin and Associates in October 2006. It is another coffee-table sized book (attach four legs and you've got a coffee table!) that provides the history of the X-Men from their inception in Marvel Comics through their various media adaptations, up to and including the upcoming feature film X-Men 3. Doing books like this one is always a delight because I get to meet and talk to the people behind the comics, cartoons and films, and this time around the list included the likes of Stan Lee, director Bryan Singer (who is contributing the book's foreword), and actors Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Famke Janssen, Rebecca Romijn and Sir Ian McKellen. This book is a follow-up to my 2001 tome Marvel: The Characters and Their Universe, which came out in a new Barnes and Noble edition last fall.
