Xbox 360 Worth Buying?

No don't get them all, the PS3 you have is great for blu-rays, and the 360 you might purchase is worth the price for the quality of online gaming.

If you want a Wii all you have to do is go back to playing games on consoles that came out years ago, and as for the Wii fit - buy a scale, look in a mirror, tell yourself your fat, and run in place. You will save a few bucks. :woot:

In my opinion if you already own a PS3/360, it's kinda pointless to buy the other one since the vast majority of games appear on both systems. This is a two system generation for gamers, a Wii and a PS3/360.

What he said. I own a Wii and 360 and both satisfy all of my gaming desires.

One thing to consider is that the $200 price point on the 360 is misleading. You're to have to put at least another $200 into it to fully utilize it.

No you dont. U buy the cheapest 360 model and all youll need is to buy a HDD.

Which is $100. Then you need a gold subscription which is $50. Also if you need the wireless adapter that's $90. An extra controller is $30-$50.

I'm been fully utilizing my 360 with a silver account and 1 controller

The hard drive was in the box

You're not fully utilizing it if you're not playing games online.

Well you can get a HDD cheaper than 100 bux, you dont have to get a 60 or more gig HDD. If you dont play online you dont need the Gold subscription and the wireless adapter is deff not a necessity unless ur house is completely wireless. So you could spend 200 or more to add on to ur Arcade package but you certainly dont need to. So no, the 200 dollar price tag isnt misleading at all.

Online play seemed interesting until I finally tried Half-Life's multiplayer back in college (1998). I quit after a few matches because it was the same thing over and over. There wasn't anything that made me want to keep playing

Since then, I've looked at the online features available in games and aside from a few differences and types of matches available, it's the same thing. Nothing about it appeals to me.

Why should I play something that doesn't appeal to me? For some myth of "full utilization"?

It is misleading b/c you do need the HDD. Otherwise the 360 is kinda useless. The size you need depends on the games you like and if you want DLC.

I don't think you need any of the stuff you mentioned to "fully utilize" the 360. It's a game machine, so if you're playing games on it, you're fully utilizing it. All the other stuff is not really necessary. Remember, a lot of people's tastes simply run toward single-player games anyway. 90% of the games I've ever owned for my 360 have been thoroughly enjoyable as SP-only experiences, and the few I have played MP with, I haven't enjoyed much.

I have the mid-level console, but if I got myself an ethernet cable (which is cheap), I'd be good to go with the $200 version. I rarely use my HDD for anything other than saves. The only DLC I've ever gotten is tracks for Rock Band (and I've only gotten like 3 of those), and I tend to use my PC for my one online game, which is Left 4 Dead. I did get a yearlong gold membership when I got my 360, but I doubt I'll renew it now that I know what it provides vs. what I can get through my PC for free.

I'm not saying you have to conform to my definition of what "fully utilizing" a 360 means, by the way. I'm just pointing out that different people have different definitions of it. I feel like I'm getting everything I want out of my 360 with 1 controller, an ethernet hook-up, SP games, and my HDD as solely a game-save device.

In my honest opinion, 360 pisses all over the PS3.

I've got GTA on the 360 and the graphics and frame-rate are amazing, silky smooth. But then i played GTA on my friends PS3, the graphics were shoddy and if there is more than 2 cars exploding at one time it goes all laggy. The same thing happened with Fallout 3. The PS3 version of that is almost unplayable IMO.

Plus there are the 360 exclusives. Gears, Mass Effect (best rpg ever on any format IMO), Fable 2, Crackdown, Forza 2, PGR the list goes on. The only exclusives PS3 has got is MGS4 (admittedly a great game) and Resistance (whoop-di-doo!:whatever: )

Honestly man, get yourself a 360.

Smells like fanboyism.

Na not at all. I honestly believe the 360 is better. And so do most of the game reviewer websites. If you don't believe me go and read a review of GTA for 360 and PS3. Do the same with Fallout 3. Guaranteed most of the reviewers will say the 360 versions are better.

The only thing, and I mean ONLY thing that the PS3 has got going for it is the Blu-Ray drive.

I've never heard of any choppiness on the PS3, personally. The PS3's hardware is more powerful than the 360's in the first place, isn't it?

Yea it is, the PS3 can pump out 2 terraflops compared to the 360s 1. But so far no developers have managed to utilize that power. So untill they do 360 wins out.

Yep. However it's difficult to develop for and generally the ps3 is been the weakest link when it comes to multiplat but it's own upcoming "exclusive" games taking advantage of that platform like killzone 2, Heavy Rain and Grand Turismo 5 seem to look noticeably better than xbox360 games, I think...at least.

Yea I have seen some screens of Gran Turismo 5 and I admit, they look frickin spectacular!!!!

But i've heard some bad stuff about killzone 2, but i suppose it's still in development so it won't be perfect yet.

Heavy Rain is the absolute only reason I almost kind of want a PS3. That game looks like it could be amazing. Hopefully Quantic Dream can keep the funky alien resurrection stuff out of it this time. ;)

I dunno, the game looks good, but it also looks like one big QTE.

In Quantic Dream's case, I can excuse that. The first 3/4ths of Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy was an amazing experience in spite of the QTEs, so I think Heavy Rain stands a good chance of being something similar.

It's well regarded that the PS3 version of Fallout 3 is worst than the 360. It was developed for the PC then carefully ported to the 360, then quickly and shoddily ported to the PS3.

The GTA IV thing is crap, though. I've seen it played on both PS3 and 360 in both SD and HD and both looked identical in graphics and I noticed the slowdown and chug on both versions, but on both it took way more than two explosions to lag.

The only real difference I saw what the 360 version looked a little brighter, but I'm inclined to think that was just the TV settings.

I think a good 50 ft of well-maintained ethernet cable trumps that wireless adapter. You save $60 right there. And when you factor in the subscription for Xbox Live Gold (which usually comes with a free 13th month), you're only paying like $4.15 a month. Also, if you have a Netflix account, this definitely helps get your money's worth each month because of the instant streaming on a lot of films instead of waiting for all of your queue to come in the mail. And if you own an XB Arcade, you can go to the Xbox website, enter the serial number and Microsoft will sell you a refurbed 20 GB HD for $20 with like $1.50 shipping.

I'm not knocking PS3, if I could get one for a decent price, I would. Granted, mostly for the Blu-Ray player, but still. Then again, you can get a Blu-Ray player for like $220 now.

Well i was exaggerating about the 2 explosions part. :D

But seriously when i was playing my mates GTA I did notice the graphics weren't as good, especially the facial features and the car/bike wheels. You can distinctly notice there is more straight edges on them, less polygons than the 360 version.

Yea i don't use my 360 wireless, it's right by my modem so I just use the ethernet.

Not seeing much diffrence.
Couldn't find screenshots for comparison.

Yea, i didn't notice ANY difference with GTA on the 360 and PS3. I own both consoles and i own GTA IV for my 360 but i played GTA IV on my PS3 just to see if i could discern any difference, i got nothing.

Neither systems comes close to "pissing on the other", at all. If you have to pick a better of the two, its the PS3 because as of this moment they have Metal Gear Solid 4 and the 360 doesnt.
