Xbox 360 Worth Buying?

Yea, i didn't notice ANY difference with GTA on the 360 and PS3. I own both consoles and i own GTA IV for my 360 but i played GTA IV on my PS3 just to see if i could discern any difference, i got nothing.

Neither systems comes close to "pissing on the other", at all. If you have to pick a better of the two, its the PS3 because as of this moment they have Metal Gear Solid 4 and the 360 doesnt.

You say that as though MGS4 is the best game ever. It's brilliant no doubt. But I think Mass Effect is the best game of this generation.

Well i was exaggerating about the 2 explosions part. :D

But seriously when i was playing my mates GTA I did notice the graphics weren't as good, especially the facial features and the car/bike wheels. You can distinctly notice there is more straight edges on them, less polygons than the 360 version.

Well, I don't know, maybe there was a problem with his PS3 or TV settings or something. I've never heard of this before and both gamerankings and metacritic have both versions with roughly the same score and I never remember reading about such problems with the PS3 version. I would think if it were that noticeable at least some review sites would jump all over it.

I have no interest whatsoever in playing MGS4. I know that makes me something of an odd bean, but I'm just saying, people like me exist.

Yea same here really. I've played it, thought it was awesome but it isn't a game i could really get into. I prefer the deep rpgs like Oblivion and Mass Effect. You can literally play them games for like 20 hours and not be any where near finishing them. Plus there is no set way to play them, Mass Effect is brilliant like that, I just went around the galaxies exploring different planets for aaaaggggeeeesss before i started getting proper deep into the story.

Yeah, same here. I planet-hopped a lot before actually dealing with the main story.

Yea man, its awesome. The depth of the customization is probably the best i've seen in any game aswell. I loved customizing my rifle and that, put some polonium rounds on and you're all set to go! :applaud

I felt the same way once I heard about the hour long cut scenes, that's just way too much for me to sit through. I buy games to play the game not watch a movie. I remember playing the GameCube remake of Metal Gear Solid and just wanted to defeat a boss before I had to go somewhere, beating the boss triggered something like a 15-20 minute cut scene and caused me to be late to where I needed 'cause I couldn't save until the cut scene ended.

MGS4 and LBP are the only reasons I'd ever want a PS3. I love all the MGS games, so I would love to play 4. Though, I'm sure it's not 'teh greatest game evah'. And LBP just looks like a load of fun, though I don't think I'd be that into creating levels.

Aside from those 2 games, the 360 has a better lineup. Plus the 360 has a lot of exclusive DLC coming, I think I'd be more upset if I owned a PS3 and couldn't play all the great 360 stuff, then how I feel owning a 360 and not playing MGS4.

XBLA also has a ton of great content.

Well yea exactly, but the way projectpat said it was as though it was cast in stone that MGS4 is the best game of this generation.

Yea true.

Liked the playstation Metal Gear Solid alot but afterworlds I do think personaly they got carried away with it. Metal Gear Solid 2 just came across as huge bumbling mess of self-important convoluted jargon rather than high-brow intellectual stuff, 3-4 suffer from this problem also but not as bad as Metal Gear Solid 2. I bought a ps2 purely for that game, huge dissapointment.

I still don't know what happens in MGS 3 after the Volgin fight. It's been over 2 years and I haven't touched it since.

Xbox 360 Worth Buying?

Yes. Yes it is. Especially now when you can get it so cheap. And if you don't believe me, 5 minutes of Left 4 Dead on Xbox LIVE will change your mind.

Yea thats exactly what i said, and its true. There isn't a better game out this generation. The voice acting, visuals, story, game play are all brilliant. The cinematic experience is none like anything seen in a video game before. Hideo Kojima is a genius and his game, nothing short of a masterpiece....

I agree with Lord Doom, the 360 is worth every penny. L4D is one of the best co-op experiences around.

It's not funny while you're getting dressed, shaving, brushing your teeth, etc... while watching the scene and it still isn't finished after all that.

But what you failed to watch is one of the best cinematic experiences not just in video games but in any medium, but MGS4 isn't for everybody, its a much more intellectually charged title compared to your Halo's and Gears of War's.

The point is that MGS4 is a game, not a series of interactive transitions between cutscenes. No offense, but games that are too cinematic cease to be games for me.

Exactly. If I want to watch a movie, I don't fire up a video game. I either pop in a DVD or see if there's something interesting at the cinema

Metal Gear is transcending the genre, its more than a mere game. What Kojima has done is nothing short of brilliant.

But thats the last ill say on that topic, dont want to hijack this thread any more.

You keep your intellectually charged movie games, I'll keep my video games. I'm not looking for a cinematic masterpiece when I play a game, hell I don't need more from the story than save the princess, just great controls and gameplay and a fun time playing the game. I respect the Metal Gear series for what it is, but it's not my type of game. If I were to buy a PS3 it'd be for Little Big Planet and the Ratchet and Clank series, maybe Resistance as well.

Oh and by the way, I'm not a big fan of Halo, Gears is great though.

Games can be more than that though. They are just as efficient a medium to convey a message as movies, music etc, they're art. The more titles like MGS4, the better the industry.

And yes, Gears is great

I guess you guys don't know, but you can skip all the cutscenes in the MGS games. And you can bash the long cutscenes either way, but there is an excellent stealth game there with or without the story. And in the case in MGS3 and MGS4 a great action game as well

I absolutely agree. And just like you wouldn't limit yourself to still pictures if you've got an animated art medium like movies, games shouldn't limit themselves to the tools of the movie medium. Interactivity is the primary advantage games have over any other medium, so if 40 or 50% of a 'game' consists of uninteractive cutscenes, something might be wrong there. That's just my feeling on it, though. Cutscenes are a waste of space on a game disc that could've been used for a better presentation of the creators' ideas.
