I'm taking a film history class, and one discussion in todays lecture was another Karate Kid movie coming out...Now this is a bad idea in my opinion, and i also have seen or heard nothing about it. I enjoyed the Karate Kid 1-3, but the Next Karate Kid...not so much..

any ideas? anyone even heard this?

No clue.
Do I care?
No.
Miyagi is dead, there shouldn't be one with out him.

if you dont care, you didnt have to respond...

well...It's not that I don't. I do. It's just that there shouldn't be another one or a remake.
It's like remaking Star Wars, It shouldn't be done.

Karate Kid 2 was the last good movie 3 and Next sucked, plus without Miyagi there is no franchise.

If you care, you probably shouldn't state that you don't care in your previous post.

Maybe I should clarify.
Would I care about the movie when and if it's released?
No, I would not.

I'd hate the lack of Miyagi (as would everyone) but what the hell.

Get Ralph Macchio back and make him the new trainer/wise man.

I'd pay to see that.

Daniel-San could have come back to Cali after hearing of Miyagi's demise, and decided to take over his old apartment and caring for his bonsai trees.

Is it that far of a stretch, really? Daniel kept training for years and years after the 2nd movie, maybe moved to Okinowa for awhile? And then he comes back to his old apartment complex and finds a kid who needs the same direction he once got from Miyagi?

It kinda feels like Luke/Obi-Wan I guess but I'd like to see it. We'd go full circle with Daniel, once the student, now training a new student in Miyagi's fighting style.

It might not be Rocky Balboa, folks, but I think it'd work.

without the late grat pat mortia, and without ralph macchio...no.

plus, the karate kid is quintessential eighties...any update would just get lost. the whole structure of the movie is 80's...it simply wouldnt work.

^ I like the idea of macchio taking the master role, and with so many franchises being rejuvenated, I dont see why a karate kid sequel couldnt be cinematic

I never saw the next karate kid, it just looked lame.

and in all fairness the sequels were terrible...really really atrocious acting from the bad guys.

let this one go I reckon - unless they can do something that's much better than the first, which is unlikely.

Or it could be Police Academy 8: Mission to Moscow.

Why can't we just keep a dumb franchise in the "crap" level instead of upgrading it to "raw sewage with needles stuck in it".

You can't make a Karate Kid movie without Pat F-in' Morita.

End of story.

At first i felt like another Karate Kid movie would suck but now i think The Raven might be on to something...

It would go something like this: Daniel is now middle aged and back in New Jersey. He runs his own Karate school there. He has just gone through a nasty divorce where his wife cheated on him and took everything he has. When he thinks his world is over he gets a call from his mother who is still in in California telling him that Mr. Miyagi has passed away and that the funeral is in a week. While at the funeral he learns that Mr. Miyagi has left a will leaving everything he has to Daniel whom he considered his son.

When Daniel is going through Mr. Miyagi's items at his home he sees old pictures and newspaper clippings and we see flashbacks of memorable moments of the first two movies. Then Daniel goes to the old run down apartment complex where Mr. Miyagi was the maintenance man and starts cleaning out his workshop. While he's in the workshop he hears a ruckus outside and looks out to see a ragged looking boy being chased down by three boys and a girl in a fancy sportscar.

When the punks catch up to the homeless boy they get out and two of them start pummeling him with the third holding a video camera taping the whole thing and the girl yelling at them to stop. The boy closes his eyes and curls up to try and protect his head and face. As the screen goes black we hear what sounds like the punks getting thrashed and running back to their car then we hear one of them yell to the kid "YOU GOT LUCKY THIS TIME BUM. DONT YOU EVER LOOK AT MY GIRL AGAIN!"

The next thing we hear is Daniel saying "Kid are you ok?"
The kid opens his eyes and see Daniel standing over him with his hand out.
We find out that the kids name is Matt and that he is homeless. The boys beating him are part of the local Karate Dojo are called The Dragons. We also find out that members of the Dragons are part of an underground fight club and that they go out and beat up homeless people for entertainment and post it on the internet. They beat him up on a regular basis.

Anyways... thats the start.

After some more flashbacks and soul searching Daniel decides that he cant just leave this kid on the streets and so begins the next Karate Kid.

Get the original kid and age him up so he's significantly older..he can be the new trainer in a new era.

Ralph Macchio spoke worst english than Mr. Miyagi. He gave Stallone a run for his money.

this sounds like it would be a good movie:ninja:

1st movie was good, very good film of 80s. I used to love the whole trilogy, but now I think one first one was good :(

First film was great, second one was okay, third one didn't deliver, but it had moments.

Just like somebody else said, you can't make a Karate Kid film without Pat Morita, sorry.

Only if they team up Ralph Macchio and Hillary Swank to train their adopted Asian kid or something.
