Action-Adventure Cobra Kai - (The Karate Kid Spin-Off)

Currently watching episode two. The wig work on this show. :funny::funny::funny:
Yeah, it’s pretty obvious, but I think they know that and just go with it because of the whole lower budget nature of the show. There’s almost a certain charm to it, kind of like with old kung fu movies where the wise old master was played by a very obviously young male actor with a fake wig and beard.

Totally. It’s so cheesy that you just have to kind of roll with it. When Kreese entered that cave I half expected him to have to fight a vision of Darth Vader. :funny:

Finished the episodes. My thoughts…

Were Robbie and Miguel busy shooting other projects? It felt like they were barely there other than the last episode. I know the cast has grown but some of the main characters felt a little too sidelined.

Tory was probably my MVP of the season. Granted, it’s written in a way to make you feel for her but Peyton really brought the pain. She’s gotten better with each season.

The same can’t be said for Sam, lol. While other young actors on the show have improved over time, Mary Mouser hasn’t gotten better at all. I heard that she auditioned for Lois Lane and the thought of her competing with someone as talented as Rachel Brosnahan almost makes me fall out of my chair laughing. I feel bad saying that but… she’s 28 now. If she hasn’t learned to act at this point, it’s never going to happen.

Hawk’s Murica chickenhead hairstyle might be the worst visual this show has ever produced. I get what they were going for but someone needs to fire the hair and makeup team on this show. ChickenHawk is his name from now on.

Kudos to the show for actually finding a way to make me root for Kyler. Never saw that one happening.

Anthony continues to be an insufferable little **** even if he wasn’t the one who made Kenny reenact that scene from Dumb & Dumber. Glad he didn’t make the tournament.

Barnes and Johnny having a rivalry was fun. But I was hoping the writers would tone down Johnny’s stupidity a bit this season and of course that didn’t happen. His whole Jerry Maguire scene was painful to watch and not in the way it was supposed to be.

Kreese continues to reach new levels of absurdity with the way he manages to traverse the globe despite being a wanted felon but it’s not like this show ever tried to be realistic.

Still, despite its flaws, I’ve enjoyed this show and I look forward to its conclusion. Bring on the final episodes that were obviously filmed in a Georgia gym while they periodically show aerial shots of Barcelona landmarks!

Holy **** i had no idea lol Great review btw

I thought the first 5 episodes were pretty underwhelming honestly. I liked the setup of the season with everyone finally burying their hatchets and working together, and seeing some former enemies now become friends. However after a few episodes of character growth it's like they have to push Johnny back to maintain the status quo of him being a wild card and butting heads with Daniel. They also had to push one of our characters into Cobra Kai because let's do that plot again.

Yeah I get that part of Johnny’s charm is that he’s a lovable idiot but come on, man. Grow up a little bit. Also, I’m getting a little tired of Daniel soul searching and making apologies for not being cool with Johnny doing dumb **** like throwing glass bottles at kids.

Another negative for me is the subplot of "maybe mr Miyagi had skeletons in his closet", all of that just felt like total filler. I would say in general I'm starting to sour a bit on that side of the story. I love Miyagi as much as most fans of the franchise and he was wonderful in the films. However at this point it just feels like they've squeezed that sponge dry and they keep squeezing it.

I would say the show had a pretty natural ramp up from the rivalry of Daniel/Johnny to bringing back Kreese to bringing back Terry Silver, but now it feels for the first time since the show started that they took a step back rather than a step forward. I guess because we ran out of classic bad guys from the films before the series concluded.

Yeah I also think what bothered me about the Miyagi thing was… how did Daniel never find that little secret compartment until now? Did he never sweep the floor in that room? It wasn’t particularly well hidden.

And yeah, I feel like Silver was more of the “final boss” because he at least had money and resources that made him feel like a real force of nature. Kreese somehow manages to break out of prison, evade police, traverse the globe, survive a fight with a cobra and build a new karate army all with no money all at the tender age of 78. Like, come on, man.

Finished the first 5 episodes and... what a disappointment. Instead of going forward it felt like they going backwards. They came up. for this part, with really dumb plots line IMO and went back on recycling plot lines we already saw so many times on previous seasons. The splitting of the season to 3 parts was, as expected, very dumb.
I hope part 2 will be better, because if it won't i'm not sure i'll stay for part 3.
For me the last season(season 5) was a turning point for me, because i was so close to quit the show completely, because all of what i mentioned above.

I hate that so much. We don't need prequels answering questions we didn't have and we especially don't need prequel shows where the only thing to mine is a name of a character. I get that it's 2024 and we're completely out of ideas but news like this are just sad for so many reasons.

I have no interest in a Miyagi prequel series. If they insist on a spinoff, I'd rather it be one of the new characters. Hawk most likely. Not sure who else. Maybe a show following Kenny and his brother? Could be something there, have their father come home from his tour of duty. A lot to play with. Hmm I have some ideas forming. Gonna go scratch out an outline. I'll post it when I'm done.

But we need to know where he got his headband! And his belt! And his fly-catching chopsticks! :o

RIP Dutch! :csad:
I didn't realize he didn't come back for Cobra Kai. For some reason I thought he was part of the crew that went camping with Johnny and Tommy in season 2. RIP

Sad to hear they wanted Dutch in S6, but the stars didn’t align. :csad:

Would have been great to see him again.

In the show they mentioned Dutch
was still in prison

Love seeing the cast having fun but part of me is ready for them to wrap this show up since that pictures shows how watered down the show is. I think I've had my fill of all the face/heel turns every season and I'm actually looking forward to the next movie focusing on a smaller cast.
