Warner Bros. Pictures is developing a feature version of "Yogi Bear," the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon, and Surf's Up co-helmer/co-writer Ash Brannon is attached to direct.

Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia, who executive produced "That '70s Show" and are writing the feature Tooth Fairy for Fox, are penning the screenplay. Donald De Line is producing via his De Line Pictures; Karen Rosenfelt is also producing.

The project is planned as a live-action/animated hybrid along the lines of Fox's 2007 hit Alvin and the Chipmunks. Much of the movie will be live-action, but Yogi Bear and sidekick Boo Boo will be done in CG.

Yogi's exploits take place in Jellystone Park, where he and Boo Boo get into good-natured mischief and must elude their nemesis, Ranger Smith.

could be funny. CGI is the way to go.

If done right, this could be amazing. I always thought Yogi could appeal more to an older audience with his dry wit and cunning. There could be some solid adult humor put in there as well as the inevitable kiddy stuff.

I loved this show when I was a kid, I haven't seen it since. Not sure if I want to revisit it.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm getting Scooby-Doo vibes, particularly with the CGI Yogi and Boo Boo.

It was only a matter of time before they got to Yogi.

I knew this was coming, we mentioned it in the Alvin and the Chipmunks thread. I wanted Top Cat to be made first, honestly. I'm trying to think who could be Ranger Smith. I'd go with Luke Wilson personally. I'm sure most of the plot will consist of Yogi and Boo-Boo trying to get food or obtain some creature comforts while Smith tries to stop them, only towards the end there's some scheme about a villain who wants to destroy the park or capture Yogi and Smith must put aside his task of stopping Yogi and help him instead. And this song MUST be played over the end credits.

I enjoyed Surf's up so maybe Yogi is in good hands. It's kind of hard to mess up Yogi but if they go around changing things it'll be a disaster.

Going to be scary to see Yogi and Boo-Boo as real bears with hat/tie/etc. Hope they don't go the Scrappy-Doo route with Boo-Boo at the end. :csad:

could this be the end result
a manip from the alvin thread lol

haha Me too, that was a great clip!

Hmm not sure about this news, haven't been all that impressed with any of these kind of films except flintstones. Alvin was ok and so was scooby doo but i cant really see how this will fair up. They should just do it all in cgi!

they gotta use the tippy toe sound effect in the movie

I don't know what the **** is taking Jetsons so long. There have been many movies that have already looked to be Jetsons-like..The Fifth Element, the diner scene in Ep. II: AOTC, etc. Just do it already, it would make a mint.

I'm trying to evnsion how this would look...I know with Scooby they basically took a Great Dane, and gave it CGI facial expressions. With Yogi, I would suggest going with the model of Iorek the polar bear from Golden Compass, and making his face just more cartoony and expressive. Change him from polar to brown bear, and you're good to go. Yogi walks on two legs for the most part though, so he's definitely going to tower over people.

they're clearly waiting on damian lewis agreeing to play george...

According to sources I just made up, Sean Penn is in negotiations to play a gay Boo Boo.

I would love it if they just went with a traditionally animated Yogi (like Roger Rabbit) in the real world.

I can see 4 actor who could play Mr Ranger and not because of being skinny or fat but because they coudl play an up tight park ranger. Yogis foil as it were.

1 Steve Carell.

2 Kevin James.

3 Conan O'Brian.

4 Robin Williams.

5 Tom Hanks.

Ok so i have 5 people in mind. Now John Goodman be a great Yogi Bear.

Hey, making Scrappy Doo the bad guy was GENIUS.

I still say Paul Rudd as a fresh out of the ranger academy Ranger Smith. And cast him before he starts to become too well known. He's already got top billing in I Love You, Man.
