Did you ever have a parent call you inside using that ageless phrase? I honestly don't think I ever heard it in my youth.

Kids today don't eat dinner with their family. They are all holed up in their miniature apartments with all the conveniences of the world within arms reach. The parental units are merely there to provide sustenance and monetary support when needed, moral guidance is optional. The days of getting called in when the streetlights turned on are gone... these are the days of the young fatties, hot pockets are cuisine.
I weep for the youth.

I always get a kick out of those "I used to walk to school in the snow" stories, because you just know they're going to end with "uphill both ways."![]()
Too obvious."Your dinner is getting cold" can be easily countered with this phrase:
"Good, I don't want to burn my tongue."

Which my Mother would probably counter with a right hook.
