What my wife let me do is for our basement instead of giving me one room she gave me the basement so what I am doing right now is having some painters come in and paint the wole basement to look like Superman's FOS (from the movies) and coming down the steps I am trying to get some type of lighting that will show off the walls and all. The basement has 3 rooms (media, gym, office) The office is being turned into the room which will hold all my Superman stuff. But I will post pics of everything when I done. It is going to look so nice.

Personally, what I'd do is have a big closet [5x7] with a fake wall at the end that, when opened, would take you to your firepole, and having the laundry chute in a different room than the false door. Soundproof the room, too. Especially if you're going to be playing your guitar in there.

Good ideas, but the whole basement will probably will be sound proofed. I don't play that guitar hardly ever, I'm afraid I would scratch it up.

I'd say just use a bookcase or back of a closet or something on the same level. As soon as you get into firepoles/stairs/etc. it's taking up a lot of oom and costs a ton, even if you're building the house new and not trying to retrofit an old one.

Also, there's an actual company that installs secret passageways, rooms, doors, etc. They're ostensibly for storing valuables and guns and the like, but I'm sure people get them just to have them.

Next summer I will be breaking ground on building a new house. I have always wanted my own batcave type room, you know with a secret entrance, so I'm pretty sure I will be building one, but I am in need of some suggestions from my comic book loving friends as to how to make the entrance for my batcave.

I've given it a lot of thought, and I don't want anything to complicated, and it's more of a novelty type thing (I don't think I'm batman), but what would you do if you had this oppertunity?

Would you use a book case for a door? This is what I'm leaning to.

I would also conside making two secret rooms, one upstairs but really small with a fire pole for an entrance. I've also considered making it multifunctional with a laundry shoot that leads to it. This would having to make it the laundry room as well, but that's okay. My thinking for both the fire pole and the laundry room comes from the idea that it might be a good idea to have it incase of a tornado or something.

Anyway, please use this thread to discuss any ideas you've had about making your own batcave.

For the record, it will mostly consist of guns/ammo and a couple of safes.

Giant grandather clock would be cool IMO, if possible have it be that you have to put the hands of the clock at a certain time to open, though that may be too complicated.

And, it should just be like a giant panic room imo. Surveillance, you already have guns and ammo. Personal belongings, valuables. Food, some comfortable couches. You need to get a comp and hook it up to a giant plasma screen, that would look insane. But you dont plan on using this as a chill spot right?

The second room should be nixed, just have secondary entrance for people upstairs or something.

This is either one of the saddest things I've ever heard or one of the coolest. I'm undecided. I mean, on one hand it is a middle aged man building a batcave...it has mid-life crisis written all over it. On the other hand...it is a ****ing batcave. Who wouldn't want a batcave?
