Sci-Fi Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon | Netflix

The trailer didn't wow me. None of the characters Eem to resonate with me unfortunately. It's a shame because I was really looking forward to this.

I must admit even as a Snyder guy I am not getting the directors cut thing for this. It's going to streaming, it's not like it's going to the cinema and then an r rated cut gets released after.

Its ego and catering to the subset of his fanbase that feel his "extended" cuts somehow elevate his films.

For me in the past his directors cuts are the better movie. BvS definitely benefitted from it. But they were all theatrical releases. It doesn’t make sense with a streaming release.

Articles have reported…

Snyder pitched Rebel Moon to Netflix based on a 170+ page screenplay. So, just shy of three hours. But according to Netflix’s analytics, movies that run much over two hours (allegedly) don’t do as well — notwithstanding that viewers routinely binge series/seasons that are significantly longer. :ebr: Snyder then proposed (and Netflix agreed to) splitting Rebel Moon into two films.

But based on the original screenplay, that would mean each installment runs less than 90 min. — which is perhaps too short…? Enter: the extended cuts. Snyder says this tallies to nearly an hour of extra material, shared between both films.

Alternatively: perhaps the original versions had already been goosed to a longer (+90min) runtime. In which case, the extended versions may be in the +2hrs (each) range.

You can always borrow elements and still present something unique. Look at Dune. A movie about a concept written 60 years ago, that has been copied in one way or the other from possibly even hundreds of creators and different media over the years. And even so Villeneuve managed to make it look fresh and innovative like it was something entirely new.

It's all about the filmmaker. And based on the trailer there's probably zero originality in Rebel Moon.
Nah, it was just a well shot and well made film. Just my opinion of course.

Oh dear. Someone doesn't understand work for hire. There is no way they are going to be able to release the game if Netflix doesn't want it to be released. I suspect Netflix may be reaching a bit with the reason for the cancellation, but they are going to just have to pay the cancellation fee.

Okay. reading the complaint, I'm beginning to think that Evil Genius was getting a little too full of themselves. Sounds like the relationship soured between them and Netflix's licensing team. The leak of stuff, which they admit there was one, seems like Netflix's way out of a bad relationship, as they seem to be wanting to take credit for creating a world based on Snyder's ****.

Good luck, Evil Genius. I don't think its going to go the way you want. Ain't no way you are getting to keep the stuff you created as work for hire.

EDIT: And the variety article says that part one is called "A Child of Fire", ok. And that part 2 is called "Scargiver". sigh....

Welcome back General M Bison........ Kidding of course, I am looking forward to watching this.

I dont know why Zack doesnt get into the world of series television....instead of wanting to make every movie hours upon hours long. He should give it a try.

I think it would fit him like a glove. Though movie budgets tend to be higher so maybe that's a factor.

He always sets himself up for "failure" though. Not every film of his should rely on a directors cut.
